"Surprise gifts are pretty great. I'm certain he'll be proud of you."

Smokey was disappointed by the disks that did nothing. For a moment, they thought they did something wrong. As if you could blow smoke on something incorrectly. But some of the others worked. Some too well.

When asked to repeat the process with the two disks Jude had picked, Smokey nodded their head and went at it. This time, they took a few seconds in between blowing on the disks, as to avoid one disk pulling smoke away from the other.

Jude was focusing intently on the disks as Smokey breathed out, watching how it collected. It gave him something to work off. It wasn't quite perfect, but it was enough, and it was probably better to favor the more attractive type. There was no major issue in collecting too much smoke unless Iggy came over in smoke form, but not collecting enough...

"Thanks," Jude said, collecting the metal disks together. He didn't need to keep track of the ideal one, since he could already remember the exact circumstances that had made it. "With that, I can repeat the process on a larger piece, and make what I had in mind. Difficulty testing was my biggest issue, since burning a match or whatever wouldn't be... well, quite as effective."

Smokey gave a cartoonish wink and hopped up from the ground. "It was no problem at all. I'm always happy to help." The, because you're an elementalist, part was left out. It was mostly because he was a friend too.

"Soooo... are you doing anything after this? I don't plan on slowing down your work, but why not a treat for a job well done at... eh... a café or bookstore or something? I don't think we've done enough of just hanging out."

They hadn't done enough hanging out. Jude was careful to tidy up the mess he had made as Smokey waited, considering their options.

"Hm," he said. "There's a place that does gelato in town I was hoping to try. We could go there?" It would be a nice break from his practice, one way or another.

Jude. Jude. Jude. Smokey suspected that there was a plan to Jude suggesting them gelato. He could tell what people's powers were. He would know they couldn't eat gelato without side effects. Well, some of those effects could be avoided. Smokey would have to turn off their element anyway with all this snow. Keeping it on a little longer to eat and digest gelato couldn't be too bad.

"Sounds good! I don't think I've ever had gelato before. So, shall I become your dragon steed and you give directions? Or do you want to be boring and walk there through the snow?"

There was, in fact, no a plan. Jude just wanted Gelato. He liked Gelato. And even if he knew all of Smokey's weird dietary concerns--he couldn't exactly forget them--that didn't mean they were immediately present in his mind at any given point.

"Probably not," Jude said, "it's like.. Italian ice cream. Lower in fat, more flavoring, less air."

And then he registered, glancing back to Smokey, abruptly aware of his mistake.

"Walk. How are you even managing with all the snow...?" He hadn't really thought about it.

And less air? When did Jude become such a monster? First, he suggested they eat something cold, then something with little air. This was the world's worst assassination attempt.

Of course, Smokey didn't genuinely believe that Jude was trying to hurt them. They also had their moments of not considering other people's diets because their own was their normal. Jude seemed to figure out the issue quickly enough, anyhow.

With a tense smile, Smokey gave their response. "I turn off my element and wear heavy clothes like humans. It's still awful, and I don't like not being myself, but it keeps me surviving."

Hm. Well.

"If you have to be without your element anyway, maybe you'll be able to find something you enjoy," Jude said after a moment. He wasn't entirely confident in that, but... at least he they could try?

He'd clean up what was left, and then he'd set off with Smokey to get the worst possible thing for them to eat.
