He hadn't been out long, enough to be enrolled and to take a look around. Said looking around lead him here, a large library, where he found himself looking around. To think, he now had access to books that held genuine magical information.

So the bandaged boy had spent considerable time there, looking through books. Not looking for anything particular, just poking around. It was then that he got that sense, that one of them was near.

A man approached him, and he knew he was one of them. "Uh....hi?" @Arcadia

Once again it had been an extremely long day for Selkiris. He could painfully feel each and every second that passed even when he was writing away in his book. It was almost too much for him to bear. Luckily Selkiris noticed a boy that had entered the library that day. There is wasn’t anything wrong with them visually however Selkiris just felt something in his gut that something was off. The boy continued to looked through book after book on the shelves each time Selkiris looked up at them, at this point he felt like he should talk to them.

Selkiris vanished from his seat and reappeared in front of his desk as he approached the child. “Hello, Ive noticed you’ve been here for a while. Are you looking for something in particular?”

Stay calm. Stay calm. He remembered how the islets prepared him for this, for meeting eldritch among the island population. "Uh....uh....no I'm fine..just, y'know," he'd shrug, "looking through the books."

He'd clear his throat. "Not looking for anything in particular," he was assuming the guy was a libertarian but he had no way to know for sure.

The bandaged boy would shift his footing a little. "So, yeah, I'm fine."

Well it was completely and totally obvious that whoever this kid, they were 100% not fine. Selkiris sighed a little, one of his hands moving up to his face to rub his eyes, all of which was of course shrouded by his hood. “Typically a response like that indicates someone isn’t fine. However I’m not the kind of person to press for more information. I’m the librarian Selkiris, if you need anything you can ask me.”

"I'm fine," Rowan would reiterate, "but.....yeah, sure, if I need anything." He was mostly remaining calm, but Selky pointing out how his response was off was somewhat troubling.

The boy considered just leaving, just putting his books back and leaving to avoid potentially more interactions with the eldritch. He'd take a breath. Eldritch were just citizens here, he was going to just have to deal with that.

Gathering his chosen books, many of which dealt with eldritch magic, he headed to the front desk. Setting the books down he fished out his library card which he'd only gotten a few days ago.

With that simplistic response from the boy, Selkiris returned to where they were seated. As he told the kid it really wasn’t something he should be digging into so Selkiris tried his best to forget about it. That plan quickly went out the window as the child approached the front desks with books to check out. Selkiris knew some of these books the child chose rather personally, just reading their covers resurfaced suppressed memories.

Selkiris picked up one and gently brushed a hand on it’s cover. “These are...certainly some of the more abnormal book choices here. I don’t know what you intend to do with this book but I’ll just give a word of advice. Dabbling in the Eldritch arts..is not something I’d reccomend. Eldritch may seem fine on this island, but they are playing by our rules. The magic in these books play by the Eldritch rules, not the island’s. Playing their game...you’re not likely to win. But even if you somehow do, they will still always leave their mark.” Selkiris sighed and set the book back down and dissmisvely waved a hand. “Sorry for that little tangent...I don’t have the best history with these books and seeing them again brought...bad memories.”

He'd take a breath. "Don't lecture me.....I know full well what this stuff can do," he and his friends bore marks and scars and scars from it. "Do you always lecture your customers?"

Rowan would adjust the bandages on his face. "Yeah, well, lots of things bring back bad memories for people, doesn't mean they immediately start lecturing others about it." Hell, the books brought back bad memories for him.

The young man would drop his library card on the stack of books.

Selkiris looked at Rowan for a moment. “No...just those that dabble in the Eldritch arts who don’t happen to be Eldritch. No good ever comes from it.”

Selkiris took the library card for a moment. Then all of a sudden it clicked with the bandages and Rowan saying he knew what these things could do. “You already paid the price haven’t you...god dammit. You’re too young to have your life taken like this.” Selkiris mumbles that last part as he checked out the books and handed the library card back to Rowan

Between the eldritch sense going off and the man's words he had a lot of unpleasant memories popping up. He didn't want to talk about this, not to this stranger who was the kind of entity that caused.

"Shut up, shut up, shut up," he'd say with a shaky breath, snatching the books from him and leaning on the desk. "Just....fucking stop," he was trying to fight off a panic attack. "Just...no....fucking no."

"I don't need some....something like you telling me about this."

Selkiris watched the boy suddenly become shaky. They were definitely not okay with what was being discussed. Selkiris originally thought of leaving them alone but decided to try and comfort them a little. “I think...you misunderstand. I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable, I’m trying to help. I went down the same road your going down...and ended up having to give up my humanity just to try and get what I wanted. I just don’t want people so young having to suffer my fate for centuries like me.” Selkiris sighed deeply, this definitely was not how he wanted this to go.
