Varvara had been quite happy recently, and why shouldn't she be? She had her memories, she had Tristan and she had friends. Varvara had so much more than she had ever had, and she truly felt happy.
And yet...something ached.
Ever since she had basically exploded at the community center Varvara had felt so unsure, so...itchy. She didn't know where the outburst had come but she knew what it was. Varvara had exploded like that in her previous life, when she had been a human. Varvara had thought she had shed that life, that life that ended in her brutal murder. But of course she hadn't, what had she been thinking? Varvara was Varvara, but she was Varvara Yu as well, the cold, snooty, cruel dancer who had had whole China in her hands. Or that was what she had thought back then. Before confronting her own mortality. And then, immortality.
Varvara danced on the grass at the Oceania park, pondering all these things. She had picked a wide spot by the walkway, wide enough so she wouldn't collide with anyone. Varvara hadn't even noticed people were throwing her money, she had her eyes closed and brow in a frown. Her bare feet were already sore from tiptoeing but Varvara didn't even notice. Her tempo was increasing more and more as she danced the choreography that she had been supoosed to dance at the big performance in her previous life. A performance she had never been able to dance, because she had been killed on the night of the premiere.
Suddenly Varvara opened her eyes as she felt the gravel of the walkway beneath her feet and didn't have time to stop before colliding with someone. Varvara fell backwards onto the grass and gasped, scampering to her feet.
"Oh, please do forgive me! I was not watching where I was going, well, dancing."
