Varvara had been quite happy recently, and why shouldn't she be? She had her memories, she had Tristan and she had friends. Varvara had so much more than she had ever had, and she truly felt happy.
And yet...something ached.
Ever since she had basically exploded at the community center Varvara had felt so unsure, so...itchy. She didn't know where the outburst had come but she knew what it was. Varvara had exploded like that in her previous life, when she had been a human. Varvara had thought she had shed that life, that life that ended in her brutal murder. But of course she hadn't, what had she been thinking? Varvara was Varvara, but she was Varvara Yu as well, the cold, snooty, cruel dancer who had had whole China in her hands. Or that was what she had thought back then. Before confronting her own mortality. And then, immortality.
Varvara danced on the grass at the Oceania park, pondering all these things. She had picked a wide spot by the walkway, wide enough so she wouldn't collide with anyone. Varvara hadn't even noticed people were throwing her money, she had her eyes closed and brow in a frown. Her bare feet were already sore from tiptoeing but Varvara didn't even notice. Her tempo was increasing more and more as she danced the choreography that she had been supoosed to dance at the big performance in her previous life. A performance she had never been able to dance, because she had been killed on the night of the premiere.
Suddenly Varvara opened her eyes as she felt the gravel of the walkway beneath her feet and didn't have time to stop before colliding with someone. Varvara fell backwards onto the grass and gasped, scampering to her feet.
"Oh, please do forgive me! I was not watching where I was going, well, dancing."

The park was such a lovely place! Despite being in the middle of the city, Lei Ling could breathe without choking on pollution. While there are some scents that annoyed her unacclimatized nose, she could handle it after experiencing much worse, and the city she had been in wasn't even half as big as this one! Well, maybe a village would be a better term, but the thought still stands! Well anyway, after familiarizing herself with the streets, she began exploring and found the park a couple of weeks ago, and since then, she had been keen on jogging around. She had to remain in shape after all. There was no particular reason aside from keeping her body working right, but it was more because it was already a habit before coming to the island. While on her jog, she spotted a performer dancing gracefully. It was hard not to notice. The performer was in the way of her usual route, so Lei Ling thought it wouldn't hurt to stop by and watch. The dance looked sort of familiar. Or at least, the way the dancer carried herself as she turned. Lei Ling continued on her route, passing by other joggers and a couple of people that she dodged around. When she was nearing the performer, she slowed down gradually until she was just walking. She was only lightly panting as she hadn't yet shifted to her third gear, but there was a good amount of sweat. Hands on her waist, Lei Ling watched the dancer from a respectable distance to avoid getting thwacked in the face whenever the performer spun around. She had to say though, the way the performer danced reminded her of some big-shot back in China. While Lei Ling wasn't that into celebrities, her friends were crazy about them, and she assimilated the basics. Reminiscing had to be shoved off however when she herself was shoved to the ground by a falling body. Lei Ling had no time to react in any other way than to try to catch the girl. After all, the alternative was to jump away and let the performer eat dirt, which was not something Ling would have considered even if she had time to think about it. However, her attempt wasn't that great, and she herself was pushed towards the grass on her hind. She was fine however, having such a well-worked body made her hardy. She was more concerned for the other girl. No, it's completely fine, really. Sorry, I couldn't really catch you in time." Lei Ling picked herself up and offered a helping hand for the performer. "Aside from the falling down, you were really graceful with your dance."

Varvara observed the hand the woman offered her and hesitantly took it, still a little ashamed of herself for getting so lost in the dance. And she had crashed with someone so much shorter than her, no less. Varvara was lucky that the person seemed to be muscular, or something much worse could have happened.
"No, there is no reason for you to apologize. I really am so sorry, forgive me. This was simply so careless of me."
Varvara bowed a little many times like she had a habit of. Habit she now realized was remnant of her old life.
Varvara started fiddling with her hair a bit when the woman praised her dancing. The old her would've been smug, would've sucked the praise in like a sponge. But Varvara was relieved to notice the her now only felt bashful, and embarrassed.
"Thank you very much, miss. I am honored my dancing was to your taste. I have been doing it for...well, a really really long time."
Varvara smiled a little nervously.
"My name is Varvara. I do believe it is appropriate for you to know the name of the one who knocked you down, miss."

"Ah hahaha, there's no need to be so modest and formal. It's a pleasure to meet you, Varvara. I'm Lei Ling Shengxiao by the way." She offered her hand again for a firm handshake. She had to say, she liked the girl already. It was nice to see someone talented be modest. Most people would just take what they have and demand praise for it, which was just a bit too self-centered for her taste. "Where did you learn how to dance? Because they did a really good job in teaching you. You really seemed into the whole thing." Lei Ling wouldn't say that she was much of a dancer herself. She left that to her other sisters who were more interested in it.

Varvara smiled, more openly now that the woman seemed to be a pleasant person. She was glad the one she had collided with was nice. Varvara's handshake wasn't as firm as Lei Ling's but it was steady and gentle, like her.
"Yes, a pleasure indeed, Lei Ling. Are you perhaps chinese of origin? Your name sounds like you might be."
Varvara tilted her head, intrigued. She herself, or at least when she had been human, was originally mongolian but she had lived in China her whole short life.

When Lei Ling asked where she had learned to dance Varvara felt herself flinch just a bit. But when she opened her mouth the words came out easily. She had to be able to talk about it.
"I used to live in China, over 17 years ago, by the name Varvara Yu. I learned from an experimental troupe that combined ballet and singing. I started when I was around 8 years old."
Varvara smiled a bit as she finished talking, it felt nice to be able to talk about her past life without feeling confusion, or regret. Her childhood in the troupe was a precious memory, one she valued very much.

Such steadiness and gentleness in the handshake wasn't noticed, but Lei Ling had a feeling that she was that type when they collided. Well, the steadiness came before the fall, and the gentleness was from the way she reacted after the fall, if one chose to be precise. The zodiac aspect nodded surely to Varvara's hunch. "Mhm! I'm from China. Names do a lot to give away where you're from," she added with a chuckle. Not Varvara's though. It didn't sound like any name she'd heard before, but that could be a quirk of the language charm she was given. Strangely though, it rang a bell. Then it hit her when Varvara answered where she learned to dance. "No wonder your dancing looked so familiar!" Lei Ling unknowingly clasped Varvara's hand between her own. "You're a pretty famous dancer! I have friends that are big fans, and they always tried dancing like you." With a wide grin, she let go of the dancer again. "They would never believe me if I said I met you in person." Lei Ling herself wasn't such a big fan, it wasn't a big interest of hers, but she was feeling excited all the same.

Varvara clapped her hands a little when Lei Ling was indeed from China.
"Oh, how delightful! This is the first time I have met someone of the same origin as I. It is even more lovely to meet you now."
Varvara beamed at Lei Ling and made a small spin, she couldn't stop herself. It was simply marvelous to be able to touch her past.

When Lei Ling actually said she knew of her Varvara froze. Even though it was only natural, since Varvara had harnessed a decent amount of fame in China. But it was so new, and frightening, for Varvara to meet someone familiar with her. Varvara stared at Lei Ling as she spoke, barely registering her words.
"I-I...I was a famous dancer. I...I died a long time ago."
Varvara smiled weakly.
"I am not completely aware of how they handled my disappearance and murder. Perhaps they just declared my death, since my body has not been found for 17 years."

Lei Ling had a wide smile on her face and a bit of a blush. "Well, I'm nothing special, but I have to admit that getting praise from someone like you is a little weird. It's usually the other way around with these situations, hahaha..." She noticed the sudden change of expression on Varvara's face, and it was worrying to her. Lei Ling was worried that she might have said something to upset her new acquaintance, and she had her answer, somewhat, when she said something about her death and murder. This made Lei Ling's eyes shoot open. This was complete news to her. Now she was sure her friends would never believe her. "I'm so sorry! I didn't know! I never really followed celebrities all that much. I never knew something like that happened." Well, now what? She couldn't just go and ask about the details, could she? But just as hard to think of something else.

Varvara smiled gently as Lei Ling blushed a little and seemed embarrassed.
"You seem like a pleasant person worthy of praise to me, Lei Ling. It is indeed nice to make your acquaintance."
Varvara chuckled a bit, feeling a bit flustered herself. But she didn't blush. She couldn't.

Varvara noted Lei Ling's shocked expression and words but she was feeling a bit out of it to make a big number out of them. Her breathing felt a bit shallow, and she was hugging herself loosely.
"No, no, you have no need to apologize. My memories returned only recently, so I have had no time to investigate the incident of my death myself. I only know I did indeed die, and was reincarnated as a nymph to the same body. Hence they couldn't have found my body."
Varvara smiled weakly at Lei Ling, if she had blood it would've probably been drained from her face.
"I am quite alright, as you can see. However I do not dance professionally anymore. I don't think I could."

Lei Ling was a little worried at Varvara's state, but she didn't want to make a big deal out of it if it only made it worse. Now was probably the time to divert her attention towards something else other than death. "Well, I'm sure you have your reasons for that. Though the dragon in our family would probably ask if whether or not you'd want to dance professionally again. They were big on the whole... cans and cannots don't matter, its the want to do something. Bleh," she feigned disgust and chuckled. "They get a little under my skin with talk like that, but their words did keep me practicing martial arts for a while."
