Early Winter

Danica hummed along with her iPod as she model walked up the stairs to the tower, dancing to the Gwen Stefani song.

"To the front... to the side..." She danced in the small space, staring down at people and knowing they couldn't see her being stupid.

"Yodelay yoldelay yodelay! HEY!" Wind it Up ended, and Early Winter started. Funny, just like the season. It really was early winter...

"My heart had a crash when we spoke..." Danica began to sing the song, then suddenly she tuned out and leaned against the tower wall.

Starlight was way different than she remembered. She'd been different than she remembered. At home, she'd had so many friends and so many people to talk to. Her best friend Lucy, and so many more.

Here, she was pretty much alone. Sure, she talked to people. But she only saw them once or twice, and then never again. And Starlight wasn't even that big, only about the size of her old high school.

She sighed. She'd been listening to music more, too. Since there was no one to talk to, her iPod came with her and she could occupy her mouth doing something. It was better than talking to herself, which she tended to do when she was iPod-less.

And Dani was waaay less punk-ish than she'd been. The dye was almost permanently gone from her bathroom cabinet and her suitcase, voluminizing shampoo instead. She'd quit cargos all together and opted for jeans and Uggs instead. And she wasn't completely against skirts, now. So weird.

So stood there for awhile, not noticing the music blasting in her ears, just thinking.
