Joanna sat idly on a rock, the midnight blue of the sky beginning to hint at a new dawn. She scowled, as she knew for a fact that humans, by nature were drawn to light, therefore would awake at dawn and come to skate. Joanna didn't want to skate with anyone else. She wanted to wobble across the ice alone. Pogo, her lovely brown rat, had stayed in her small dorm for this excursion, being simply too tired to come. This worried Joanna, because Pogo was always happy and awake. Maybe it was just the time.

Flinching to remove hair from her eyes, Joanna bravely stepped out onto the mirror-like lake. She slipped and fell, naturally yelping. She glanced around quickly to see if anyone saw and looked down at the ice to find a patch had turned golden. In her shock, she had lost control. Joanna narrows her eyes and raises a thin eyebrow in skepticism, staring down the icy patching for several tense minutes, the gold slowly, reluctantly shrinking back from the ice. The overall process took about ten minutes total, but to her it felt like ages. She was surprised to still find it near dark around her when the gold patch was completely gone.

Joanna stood again and pushes off, gliding out to the center of the lake, shoving her hands into her pockets. She hums and old song she's forgotten the words to, and lazily started a circle around the large lake.
