Personal History:
The Wendigo of North America used to be as common as wolves, spread out in the enormous forests spanning for miles and miles. They hunted alone usually, but couples could be seen walking the forest together, hunting for human meat. Coexistence with the Native Americans was rough but not unmanageable, since they didn't have the technology to combat their carnivorous foes. Everything was as it should be until the men and women came from England and from everywhere else with their noise and their guns.

At first it was like an itch you couldn't scratch. Bothersome but not impossible to ignore. They laughed at the warnings of Wendigo, and were therefor taken by surprise much more easily. Then they got smarter, and more cruel. They found out about fire, and used it to burn the Wendigo whenever they encountered them. Entire forests were set alight. Slowly the Wendigo were driven into hiding and then close to extinction. Dyani was the forth born of a Wendigo family of six, she watched her siblings and then parents get burned and hunted slowly as she grew older. When she was the last of all Wendigo she had ever known, she went into hiding among the enemy.

Using her forest magic, she bottled most of her energy and stored it so deep inside her soul even she could not access it. The rest she kept in some abilities to keep her alive and hidden. The only slip-up she had was in 1692, when her power bubbled over the surface and she was almost put to death. She was spared due to her innocent appearance and good standing in the community, although the prosecutor still wanted to know where the eleven dead men had gone. After that, she sealed all of her magic save a small amount in her soul permanently, using a sigil her father had taught her which he had learned hundreds of years before. This she carved into her upper right thigh, and would re-carve when it healed over until she tattooed it more permanently.

Now she lives among the murderers of her people, the slaughterers of her entire family. Her only revenge is hunting them slowly, and pondering quiet ways to kill large masses of them without getting caught. This island was a haven for her, a place she could go to where a Wendigo in the forest would be more normal (if she was ever caught). Somewhere where her ability to talk to animals could be done in secret, and if discovered she would not be threatened with burning at the stake. Again.
Powers / Abilities:

Power One: Waking Nightmares
You know that thing you see in the corner of your eye, right before you turn around? You know that face in the darkness that grins gruesomely at you, right before it disappears into nonexistance? The tricks that your own mind already plays on you can be amplified by Dyani, and warped. Instead of the black humanoid shape disappearing when you turn your head, it grows claws and waves languidly. White sharp teeth appear and gnash menacingly. It walks towards you, egged on by your subconscious expecting it to. Like when you have a nightmare, and you just know you can't escape because you've created no escape with your own mind. Dyani can manifest creatures or things inside this delirium, but if the person experiencing it mentally wills it away, away it goes. The entire effect is based on the imagination of the person affected, if they don't scare of the dark or of the unknown she has to manifest anything they see, which takes more energy. Dyani can turn on and off the waking nightmares at will, and focus who is having them. But just like in a dream, if the person mentally decides the things are not real or does not think (even for a millisecond) about the figments attacking, they are forced into nothingness once more.

Cons:
Just mind games, nothing corporal
Those with strong wills can dissipate the figments

Power Two: Voice of Nature
Just because you can understand birds doesn't mean they're not rude and uppity. Or deer aren't chatty Cathys. Dyani can understand all animals from bugs to birds to bears perfectly, and respond in kind. It was something she was born with, but is actually unusual for her breed of Wendigo. It is like the knowledge of the language spoken around you when you were a child, it comes as naturally to her to speak and understand. It is also the language she hears in her internal monologues, the voice in her head. This understanding includes the physical signs animals use as well as the verbal, like the flick of an ear or the color change on a chameleon.

Cons:
Animals are like people in their different moods and personalities. Who says they're all helpful and kind?
It's not telepathy, Dyani has to make a noise or a physical sign to communicate and either hear or see the animal to understand, like talking with humans.

Equipment You Have:
  1. Silver knife
  2. Smartphone
  3. Satchel of various herbs and spices

Species Abilities - Species Name: Wendigo

Transformation: Turning from her human form into her Wendigo form and back. Her hair grows longer, her eyes lighten to help her blend into the forest. Antlers sprout from her head. More subtle, dangerous changes happen. Her nails change to extend-ability, making them turn into blade-sharp 3 inch long tools whenever she extends them. Teeth elongate, making fine weapons that can chew through rope and twine as well as human flesh and crack open bone. Her senses sharpen, allowing her the hunting capabilities of a wolf. All of her reflexes triple. Her running speed increases to 40MPH, her strength to 2 tons deadlifted. These enhancements are for hunting her main and favorite prey - human meat.

Immortality: Dyani does not age. Her human disguise is immortal in appearance like her Wendigo form, both cannot physically age. She must eat human meat once a month to live, she must breath and she must drink water, but besides these she does not need human comforts. Although she does not sleep she can hibernate until winter, when prey is easiest to catch.

Cold Immunity: No matter how cold it gets, Dyani is fine with nothing on at all with no side effects.

Mockery: Dyani can mock any natural sound or voice if heard before, human voices especially well. Bird calls are her specialty, but she can also do human voices if she has heard them before. Her volume of voice stays the same, so she can only use it within hearing distance. She cannot mock unnatural sounds, like construction or beeping or anything mechanical, or sound effects like explosions or trees landing on the forest floor.

Species Weaknesses:
Fire - Fire is the terror of all Wendigo. It's extremely dangerous to them, since they are ice creatures. If one were to get burned, the burn would hurt much more than if a human had been burned. If it's a first or second-degree burn, it would not heal at all until the Wendigo reached a place in nature completely preserved, like a nature park. There they would have to recuperate for a whole day without leaving or the burn would return as if never healed. Third-degree burns automatically kill a Wendigo no matter where the injury is.

Temperature - Wendigo don't like their temperature checked, because they register (when healthy) at 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This is a giveaway for their real nature as supernatural creatures.

Skills:
Knowledge of almost all plants and animals found in nature
The knowledge of one over 300 years old
