Eein Dresden

They sat at a café, the blue haired teen looking at the woman across him with an odd combination of curiosity and suspicion. Eein hadn't been on the island long, long enough to learn a bit about it, long enough to know that dragons were plentiful, but he didn't think he'd been there long enough to be adopted by anyone.

He'd tilt his head, his blue eyes looking her over, "why me?" he'd ask, a bit of cold frost mist escaping from the corner of his mouth as he spoke. "Plenty of kids running around needing parents, some a lot younger than me, but you choose the weird dragon teenager," he'd say, very calmly, his eyes on the other hand showing an odd combination of confusion and concern. "Lots of kids you'd be better off taking in," the woman was a dragon, he could tell that much by her scent.

Hiatus
Huilu was a calm person. She was able to face most obstacles with objectivity but kindness, and she had survived many tight spots by keeping her head and heart straight. Huilu was a strong leader, or at least she aimed to be, and an artist that saw beauty in what so many discarded. And yet...she was now terrified.
Huilu sat across the youth that had been in her mind for weeks now, ever since her father had died. And this child's as well. Which was exactly why Huilu was here now. To right a wrong, to try and pay back for grave sins her father had committed. Huilu had her usual calm, gentle smile on her face but inside she was nearly shivering. She remembered this young one's father, she herself had been but a child when he had been banished. He bore his resemblance, and Huilu could easily remember that same face distorted in a yell when the man had shouted his innocence out to deaf ears. Huilu, under the table, pressed her hands together to calm her racing heart and mind.

Huilu, who had been slightly distracted, snapped back to now when Eein, named in their community's traditional way, asked her a question. Why him. Huilu listened to his words and at the end looked down briefly, her face now more serious but still calm. She took a breath and faced Eein head-on. He deserved nothing less than the truth, or most of it.
"Eein, I know this must be strange for you. You do not know me. But I knew your father. Knew of him. This moght come as a shock, but he was originally from the same community as me, as my cousins. I remember him, he was a good man. Respectable, and kind."
Huilu smiled for a moment, another small gentle smile with a hint of sadness. But then her face went serious and she had the look of deepest empathy.
"I'm so sorry for your loss and pain, Eein. I have lost loved ones as well, so I know your pain. And I know you need time to grieve. So remember, at any point of this process you are free to say no."
Huilu's words resonated with certainty and sorrow, and it was clear she was genuine and meant every word.

Eein Dresden

Eein would listen closely, the corner of his lip twitching as she explained herself, where she was from, why she was doing this. He'd open his mouth to say something but wasn't able to find the words, he'd pinch the bridge of his nose and let out a sigh that was accompanied by a puff of frosty mist like air.

"Well that's something isn't it," he'd rub the side of his head, his emotions twisting and turning. "So you..knew him...or..," he's look at her, "he never talked about that stuff, he just said he was...I don't know...a wanderer before he met mom...I did overhear them talking sometimes though, not much."

He'd take a breath, "and what about the others...other clan members? Are there more here? Ones that knew my dad?" The young dragon would tilt his head, looking at her, wondering why his father would never speak about this, why he'd never seen other clan members before.

Huilu waited patiently, she'd wait no matter how long it took for Eein to find the words. He deserved all the time in the world, Huilu already thought he was very brave. And as he spoke again Huilu listened carefully, not letting one word slip past her ears. Mostly because she wanted to hear what he had to say and respect it, but also because Eein might know something, something very important that might save her and many other lives in the future.

Eein's words pricked Huilu's chest, she had to tell Eein something he probably wouldn't be happy to hear. But she was also glad the news weren't all bad. Huilu looked at Eein and nodded.
"Yes, there are other members of the community here, the leader of it as well. Unfortunately no one who knew your father is here, but there are many back home who knew him, were close to him, could tell you about him."
Huilu smiled slightly, she was certain he could hear many good things about his father if he decided to visit the community. Huilu looked down briefly, tapped her ice finger against the table, before resuming speaking.
"As for...why your father did not talk about his past, kept his true name hidden. I'm very sorry to tell you this, but...he was banished, Eein. Long time ago."
Huilu looked at Eein apologetically, for one reason or another she felt responsible.
"He wasn't a bad man, he was framed for crimes he did not commit. They were dark times, Eein, but it is no excuse. Your father didn't deserve to be punished, and all who knew him would agree. Just remember, the blame is ours, and ypu have the right to dislike, even hate us, even if the past can't be changed."
Huilu held Eein's gaze, her eyes were steady but sorrowful, her form dignified but humble. She was ready to face Eein's wrath and loathe if he decided upon them.

Eein Dresden

Eein stared at her, speechless, unable to find words, his father had been exiled, banished, thrown out like trash, all for crimes he didn't commit, framed. He breathed out, a slightly noticeable flicker of blue in the cold air that came out.

Taking a calming breath he looked to her, his eyes a bit calmer, he honestly wasn't sure what to think of all this. It was all almost to much, a little overwhelming. "This is....fuck.....why? Why'd they do that to him?"

He remained quiet for a moment, collecting his thoughts, he had many questions, some of which were perhaps best suited for another time. "What of the ones here?" he'd ask, "was my father's name ever cleared?....will they ever be ok with you taking me in? The son of an exile?"

It was clear to see this was all very shocking for Eein, and Huilu regretted she had not found a better way to bring this all to the young one's knowledge. But Huilu had no choice but to drop it all, or most of it, on Eein's still small shoulders. But Huilu would be there to help him carry all that burden. She wanted to.
"This is all a lot of information, I'm sorry to drop it on you so suddenly. But...you have the right to know, deserve to know."

Eein asked the right questions, and Huilu was glad she was able to answer. A month ago she wouldn't have been able to answer him.
"Your father knew something, that could've proven fatal for a dangerous person in a high position. So he was banished, so that knowledge would never be found."
Huilu was now dead serious, although there was still softness in her eyes. Her eyes would never go hard and cold, she had sworn that. Those had been her father's eyes.
"I will tell you more later, if you wish to know. But right here and now is not a good time."

Huilu could almost hear the cogs turning in Eein's head as he collected his thoughts. As he asked his question Huilu nodded slowly, and smiled just a bit.
"The current chief knows of your father's innocence, and I will work my hardest to ensure his name is cleared. I promise you that. As for what they think..."
Huilu leaned forward slightly and her smile had new kind of gentlessness to it.
"They will all welcome you, and if they don't I will fight for you. I may be in a clan, but I have a will. And I want to adopt you, to let you be a part of our clan, our family. If you want the same thing, naturally."

Eein Dresden

He was framed, his father had been framed and cast out like trash, he'd sigh and rub the temples of his head. Anger, confusion, there were a lot of emotions swirling around in his head, he'd have a bad migraine from all of this later, but for now he'd focus.

Adoption, she was offering to be his guardian, to take him into the clan. He could say yes, but did he wasn't this? Eein would look at her, his thoughts clearing as he forcused. She was offering him what had been taken from his father, birthright and clan, yes this was his by right. "I....yes...ok."

Eein would look at her, "I want this....whatever it'll bring," he doubted it would just be as easy as him walking in and joining, no given how complicated everything else was he expected this to be just as complicated. "I don't know much about clans...but my father should have had this...so I'll have it," he'd nod and sigh, feeling a little emotionally drained, "thank you."

Huilu had not realized exactly how nervous, how afraid she had been to receive Eein's answer. She could feel an enormous weight roll off her shoulders when Eein said yes, that he wanted to be a part of their, her, clan. Huilu smiled, trying not to seem too overly excited or happy, and dipped her head a bit to a small nod.
"Then it's an honour to have you to be a part of us, to become family. Well, it will take a few weeks, but I hope we can try and get to know each other at our own pace."
Huilu reached out her hand, so Eein would shake it if he wanted to.
"And I will support and help you however you need. I cannot wait to know about you."

Eein Dresden

"A few weeks...well..we can keep meeting up like this or do something in the city," he'd say sith a nod, and a small smile that showed a bit of nervousness despite how calm he usually was, "I honestly haven't been around people all that much, we always lived pretty far out, so....city's and all that it's definitely new."

Eein would take her hand in his and gently shake it, "and I'll pull my wewasny I'll find a job," he wasn't one to just take something good without returning the favor, he'd try to help pay bills of she'd let him.

He'd gently release hee hand, his emotions still swirling, he wanted to scream, hit something and cry all at the same time, but no, he'd remain calm and find a vent later on.

It was admirable, how well Eein kept himself together despite the situation and all the information that had just been poured into him. Huilu felt proud and it showed from her eyes, as she looked upon Eein with slight sorrow. He had to continue being strong from now on, even though he was so young. But Huilu wanted to give him a place where he could be weak, even if just for a moment. Huilu had been granted such a place by the Ancients, and she would grant Eein that place by her. If he accepted it.

"I have never seen a large town such as this before. It's full of wonder, and wonder is always revealed better by two pairs of eyes it's still unknown to. We can discover it, and this city, together."
Huilu had a small mysterious yet gentle smile on her face as she shook Eein's hand, she loved advetures and discovering new things and places. And it was always more thrilling to do it with someone. The smile turned into an empathetic
"And we will have time to talk about your weight, and how I am here to help you carry it. For now I think you might need some time to think about this, be with your own thoughts. Am I right?"
