Doodling Is an Art, Too!!

Boredom does strange things to people. For instance, it can make perfectly sane people act shizophrenic simply to scare little children. It can make perfectly rational people stand on a rooftop and belt out Somewhere from West Side Story. Or it can make people who generally don't draw sit in an art room and doodle very badly.

Which is exactly what Shenendoah was doing. She was holding a pencil tightly and drawing stick figures dancing the polka. All in the wonderful name of boredom. And she was humming the Bananaphone Song softly, something she would also not do normally.

Yes, boredom is a marvelous thing.

A chuckle behind her. Judas had an unhealthy love of sneaking up on people.
His black coat was flowing as he floated a few feet off the ground, gazing at the young girl's doodling.
"Charming, you know it reminds me of my uncle, he used to paint marvelous doodles like that...he ended up going insane and setting an orphanage on fire, but I digress. What quaint art."

Shenendoah's humming turned into a shriek. She turned and glared ruefully at the teenager behind her. Didn't anyone ever teach you not to sneak up on people? It's not nice." She said. She turned back to her doodles.

"Yes, I can just see myself setting this whole school on fire...it may not be an orphanage, but it's close, right?" She said kiddingly.

"Name's Shenendoah, Noah for short, in case you care,"

Judas gave a broad grin.
"Of course I care, mon cher! I make it my business to know whoever is here and there...around the Academy. As for sneaking up on people, well, I think it's a marvelous icebreaker or heart attack-inducer, both two worthy abilities."
He bowed with a flourish.
"Madame Shenendoah, I am Judas Anderson. And I must say, I share your interest in burning this place to ashes."
Judas smirked.

Great. She always seemed to attract the weirdoes. "Okay, just gotta tell you, that's kinda creepy. But it's nice to meet you anyway. Messieur Judas." She said, with emphasis.

"What have you got against this place?" She asked.

Judas smiled broadly, a warm and almost welcoming grin on his handsome face...contrasted by something that did not fit...his cold and emotionless eyes.
"Ah, well you said you could see yourself doing it, and I must say I concur. I'm not sure if you've realized this yet, but this academy is a cursed contemptible place full of beasts, vampires, and madmen..."
He paused, looking at his gloved hand.
"It's...far better if it never existed."

Shenendoah followed his gaze. She wanted to ask what had happened, but she didn't. "They're not all bad. I've met some very nice people. A little...interesting...but nice, none the less."

She sighed. "My only problem with this place...is that it's not home. Not that I really know where home is..."

Judas shook his head, sighing.
"See that pause in your speech? 'A little...interesting...but'. That pause represents danger, foreshadowing, uncertainty. They are abnormal in their abilities, and so abnormal in their personalities. You may see humanity in them, briefly, and think them 'nice, none the less'...But remember this, they'll never be well-adjusted, normal..."
He glanced at his hand again, not aware of the action, and then wearily at the girl.
"These 'abilities' we have, are nothing but a curse that makes sure none of us will ever live long normal lives. Be wary of the students you meet, I know first hand, they're vipers with golden tongues. I hope to find someone I can trust, someday."

Shenendoah had to think about what he'd said. "Yeah, okay. But still, most of them have families, and friends...we're no different than anyone else, except for the fact that we have this 'curse' as you like to call it." She said.

"You can trust me," She told him, even though she wasn't sure she could trust him.

He gave her a warm smile, shaking his head.
"Oh, I wouldn't call them normal or harmless. Friends and families are meaningless. Do you not realize that every beast and murderer had a mother? That every psycho and vampire can find a friend in another psycho or vampire? "
Judas paused, shrugging.
"Only warning you, mon cher, tell me, what are your abilities? I'm curious."
