Don't let anybody get in your way

Today was Gabriel's first day back at college after the long summer break. He stood in the courtyard, back pressed against the wall, watching the bluster of students piling through the courtyard. Most of them were rushing to their classes, he was so glad he hadn't taken any morning classes. Gabe narrowed his eyes trying to see if he could spot any of his friends. He couldn't, and while most people may have felt awkward in this situation, Gabe was content. He didn't find socialising to be hard, it came naturally to him.

Gabriel flashed a couple of goofy smiles at a group of girls who passed by, they seemed younger than him but only by a year or two. They were rather attractive, he noted and called out a rather enthusiastic 'hey!' A few of them giggled, others rolled their eyes. He laughed to himself. He would have approached them except it was obvious they were on their way to classes and he didn't think they'd take well to being held up.

His eyes went back to flittering around the courtyard, he was itching to talk to someone, if just to pass the time until his class.

<div align=center>William still had no clue how to get around this place. He'd not had any classes yet, he needed a chance to settle in, he'd decided, though who knew how long that'd take. He'd recently taken to following people around who knew like they looked like they knew where they were going, which as it turned out, was almost everybody. At least I don't have to find my way to classes yet. He wasn't looking forward to tomorrow, though, he hadn't even made any friends yet. Bill had got some strange glances at best, which were probably due to the foil hat propped atop his head, he'd generally chosen to ignore them, no one had commented on it though, he was sure there was far stranger things to look at than a skinny boy in a foil hat.

Bill tripped, and stumbled a few feet, a hand flying to his head and the other one out forward to steady himself. "Oof." He whimpered softly as the gravel came into contact with his knees, ouch. He lifted a hand, his palms were grazed, though there wasn't all that much blood, his knees would look worse. William was clumsy, and when he fell, there was a lot of him to fall. He cursed himself for only being able to heal other people of current, the power was useless when you couldn't heal yourself, especially if you happened to be William.</div>

Gabriel of course noticed William falling, even though he was half the way across the courtyard. The kid looked young, probably only in high school or perhaps his freshman year of college? Gabe couldn't tell. There is only one way to find out.

Striding across the courtyard he called out,
"Hey kid, are you alright?" When he reached William he extended a hand to help the boy up. He flashed a warm smile. "You're bleeding," he exclaimed pointing out the obvious. He bit his lip, he didn't have any bandages on him.

Rooting around in his pockets he pulled out some crumpled tissues, they weren't used but Gabe didn't keep things very neat and often just shoved everything into his pockets quickly when racing out the door. "Put this on it."

<div align=center>William stared up at the man, eyes wide. It took him a couple of moments to stammer out a word of thanks, and press the tissue to the graze on his hand. He frowned when it stung, and drew the tissue away again, it was speckled with his blood, the sight made him feel queasy all of a sudden, and he pushed it quickly into the back pocket of his skinny jeans. He brushed himself off, and slowly picked his hat up, placing it carefully on top of his head and backing away a few inches, mumbling a few more hurried words of thanks. The fact Gabe had seen him fall had made him blush violently already, his touch had made it ten times worse. William wasn't all that good at the whole 'introducing himself' thing.

This boy looked older than him, William thought, he wondered if he knew his way round, perhaps it was worth attempting to make friends after all, but the boy couldn't bring himself to say anything else, if he tried he'd stutter and wouldn't be able to get his words out, which usually frustrated him, William didn't like feeling frustrated. He wondered whether this boy was simply good hearted or perhaps there was an underlying reason of why he'd helped him, William mentally scowled at himself, he shouldn't be so suspicious of people all the time. "Thank you." </div>

"Don't worry about it, ...?" Gabriel raised an eyebrow, realising he hadn't asked the boy his name. Then again there hadn't been time. "Sorry," he blinked, "I don't think I got your name." He laughed softly, "I'm Gabriel," He continued when the boy didn't immediately reply.

This one's a shy one, he noted silently. He didn't usually hang out with shy people, he needed to be kept stimulated ,as his attention span was not the best, so he often got agitated around people when they couldn't keep up a conversation. He didn't do it to be nasty it was just the way he was.

"You can call me Gabe though," he offered. "Are you new here? I can show you around?" Maybe the kid just needed to feel welcome and then he'd start talking more.

<div align=center>Bill stared at him for a moment, dark doe-eyes wide and slightly curious, there was a silence between them for a short while. "William." He murmured, his voice only barely breaching a whisper. His brow creased, the other man was becoming annoyed with him and he could feel it, the sensation made him nervous. "My name's William." He repeated, this time his voice just that little bit quieter. He adjusted his hat a little, and shrugged, he would have rather liked company, but in Bill's head, the two hadn't gotten off on the right foot, whether or not Gabriel knew that was another matter, there wasn't a reason why he should, William noted.

He stared at him for a while more, feeling a flush creep across his cheeks again, he tensed up and quickly looked away. He guessed Gabriel had been here for a while, perhaps it'd be useful to have a friend who knew the grounds, though Will thought it was wrong to use a person, even if it was just for that. "I transferred here today." He replied softly, "I.. Uh," he shook his head, and didn't finish his sentence.</div>

Gabriel nodded and smiled yet again,
"It's nice to meet you, William." He liked the way that felt on his tongue. It was a name he could get used to speaking often. Then again there were lots of William's around the place but none he had spoken to personally.

"Where did you go to school before?" Gabe asked, curious. He couldn't detect much from the boy's accent. "And what year are you in?" He wanted to finally get an answer to what had been puzzling him the last few minutes. He waited for William to finished his sentence, when he didn't Gabe cocked his head, "you what?"

<div align=center>From square one, Bill realized that Gabe talked a lot. It was a huge contrast from himself, he didn't know if he liked it or not. "Illinois." He answered absently, he wasn't sure why Gabe wanted to know, though it was probably just for sake of conversation, the thought the other boy was making an effort to talk to him made him smile a little, people didn't often make the effort to talk to him, they generally realized he was shy, and gave up not long later. "Still in Highschool." He stated, nodding a little and causing the foil had atop his head to shift a few inches, he would have liked to take the silly thing off but it gave him such a headache, and made everything far more difficult to concentrate on. He shook his head again, "nothing, it doesn't matter." He forced a small, sweet smile, reaching a hand up to rub the back of his neck, he had the feeling he'd smeared the blood from his hands across it.

He wondered how old Gabe was, he thought it must have been a few significant years more than himself, though he didn't think he looked more than twenty three. He was finding it difficult to pick words out at the moment, Gabe made him nervous for some reason, moreso than other people, though he didn't get bad vibes from him, and the way the man felt should have put William at ease, for some reason it did exactly the opposite.</div>

"Illinois." Gabriel repeated, absently. "Chicago?" He asked. It was the only place he had heard of in Illinois if he was honest. That should probably have made him ashamed but he didn't really care.

Woah, he's young, was the first thing that flashed through Gabe's head. "In your senior year?" He asked. Though the kid could just have easily been a junior, perhaps a sophomore that looked older than he was but it was far more likely he was a junior or senior.

"You okay?" Gabe tilted his head, William was squinting as if he was in pain. He carried on talking however, he was suffering a case of verbal diarrhea, thought that was not out of the ordinary. "I'm in college."

<div align=center>William shook his head, "Barrington." He answered, looking up at Gabe and smiling a little, he was tall, Bill had counted himself as tall, but the top of his head only just reached Gabe's ear. It took him a little while to register his concern, and he shook his head a little, "I'm fine," he returned hurriedly, nodding as if to confirm it, his palms were sweaty and there was a thought at the back of his mind that was telling him to run away right now, but he stood his ground, and chose to hold up the conversation, he was lonely, it was nice to have someone to talk to, regardless of the fact they made him feel like his heart was going to stop.

"College." Will echoed, blinking slowly and staring down to Gabriel's feet. He found himself blushing again, and he couldn't really understand why. Gabriel was friendly enough, he felt as though his nerves were irritating the man slightly and he didn't really like it, he wondered how long he'd been here, he figured a while, if he was in the college form, though perhaps he'd only transferred recently, after all, he himself hadn't been here long at all, and he already wanted to go home. He sighed lightly and frowned to himself. "I'm sorry... I'm not very good at talking to people."</div>
