"I said flat. " Chris shot right back, hand on her hips. "If I hurried, then I would have been early. As it was, I took like five minutes more than I would have, even before the freeze." The words were sharp, but they were playful. If she knew anything about Brody, it was that he could be an asshole sometimes, but it was all in good fun.

Her petulance vanished, however, when she caught sight of the new phone, displaying the timer. "You figured out how to work that thing? How!?"

Brody just continued on grinning as Chris explained why she was soooo late. It was probably clear he was just yanking her chain. Brody let out a scoff and just shook his head. "Yeeeet you can't out run Suzie, then again she is a werecheetah."

Brody exited out the timer app and swipped through his phone like it was nothing. "I studied. It's not that hard to understand. I can show you if you want." And by studied, he meant he watched all these 2019 dweebs use their fancy phones for a bit until he understood the basics. "The phones are pretty cool, way better than the ones we used to have but they break so easy. You can't even drop it without it cracking."

Brody was clearly going to claim being the first DCA student to be able to use a touchscreen phone properly. "Unless you get a really good case for it. Anyway let's fuckin go to the rink. They still haven't been able to contact my parents so they might be super busy there or something."

"Psh, please. I could outrun Suzie in her human form without even breaking a sweat." Hands on her hips, she took a quick look at the phone Brody held. It was so... blocky. Like a giant rectangle. The screen displayed the timer he'd used to time her, but it quickly disappeared as he swiped deftly through the menus.

"I studied. It's not that hard to understand."

"I can study too. I'm not a total idiot,"
she quipped back. "And besides, who cares about those new phones? Like you said, they crack really easy. I saw a dude drop one and it came up cracked to hell." Of course, it wasn't just that the newer phones were flimsy and complicated - they didn't have her numbers saved. And, more importantly, they didn't remind Chris of a time she knew. She didn't want to have to keep relearning everything...

"Anyway, yeah. Let's go to the rink. I wanna say hi to your mom. I wonder if Ty still works there - you think he can still get us the spicy fries for free?"
