"Last class of the day. Almost to the end... Maybe everyone will ditch and I can go home?" Kuro sat in the bleachers of the gymnasium, eyes closed and his head leaning back on the seat behind him as he waited for his students to arrive. Today he was testing their control over their summons, something even he had trouble with sometimes. It takes a lot to impose your will upon another being, so they must practice. To his side, he had several different mediums, prepared for whatever they might need. From old books to chalk for drawing summoning circles, he was at least serious enough to prepare.

Enelen was not used to doing poorly. For the most part, he'd always taken it for granted that he'd be capable of succeeding. Any class he'd enrolled him back at home he'd have been able to excel in, and he'd assumed that Starlight Academy would be no different.

He'd been wrong. The fact was, not everyone was capable of succeeding in every class. Some classes were simply out of reach. Magic didn't work the way it did in his own world, and it was entirely possible that certain kinds of magic would simply never be possible for him to manage.

Summoning, though? There was no reason he couldn't manage summoning. Summoning was really just teleporting things in reverse. The problem was that he couldn't find something else to summon. Summons had to come from somewhere, and Enelen was so used to a basic worldview that... well, he couldn't just let his mind wander off.

He slunk into class, his hand wrapped tightly around his staff. He didn't like it. He didn't like not being able to do well. No amount of reading was improving his skills, and despite having been in the class for three weeks, he hadn't managed to summon anything at all.
