Great. He actually passed his interview. "I assure you I won't steal anything. I might borrow books to read behind the counter, but nothing will leave the store."

Nodding, he would clap his hands together once. "So, uh, If I'm hired, is there any days you would like me to work?"

"Weekends would be a good start. I usually open the place around eleven on Saturdays and Sundays, and close down around eight."

Being able to pawn off weekend work on another nerd, especially with how dead Sundays in particular could get, would be the biggest break Madison had ever since moving to the island. Imagine all the lying around in a haze of melancholy and boredom all day without any interruption! That would be the life!

"Other than that," the necromancer said with a soft shrug of her shoulders, "we could arrange a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule, or Tuesday and Thursday. Whichever works best for you."

He didn't have much on the weekends, so Marcus couldn't complain. "That sounds good to me."

Flicking through a book from his bag, he looked at the writing he had. "Monday, Wednesday and Friday are good for me too." He did a faint laugh, realising just how little he did outside his study.

Coughing and clearing his throat, he looked at her. "So do you mind giving me a tour?"

Madison sighed, as she is increasingly wont to do. A silent one, of course. Didn't want Marcus thinking that the necromancer thought he was being a bit silly. Come on, it's a bookstore! Everything is clearly labeled! Well, each section is, anyway. Sort of.

Mostly.

Kind of mostly, anyway.

Margin of error's there, of course. Especially with how busy Maddy's been running the bookstore herself and all.

The black-haired woman glanced around the maze of shelves briefly, tongue dancing across her teeth.

Okay, so even I get confused trying to toss things on shelves. Maybe a brief tour wouldn't be such a bad idea.

"There's, uh, not much to really show you," Madison said with a soft shrug of her shoulders. She picked herself up off the shelf she was leaning against and started walking around the store in a big circle, fingers pointing every which way as she rattled off the various sections.

"World history's all mixed in together. Manta Carlos history's its own section right next to it. Then you have boring-ass non-fiction here, then the arts, and over here there's mystery, romance, science-fiction..."

Following her, he nodded as she spoke. It seemed simple enough. Marcus didn't think it'd take long before he memorised the layout.

Once she finished, he'd look around, glancing at the book covers, there was another way to organise the store, but he kept it to himself. Probably not a good idea to change things so soon. He did, however, make it a mental note to bring it up later.

"Okay then," he'd bring his hands together. "Honestly, I've never had a job before, so I don't know what's next."

"What's next," Madison said as the dread of realization suddenly plopped down on her shoulders,"is the paperwork."

The necromancer was so used to working alone (and consequentially having the store only open for thirty incredibly odd and inconsistent hours every week) that she never bothered to check with the city what kind of tax information they'd need from her regarding new employees. And if she was going to have one, she might as well have a handful.

So, just throw that onto the pile of things she didn't want to do.

Maybe tomorrow.

"I'll tell you what. Come back on... say, Monday; I should have everything ready for you to sign, and we can officially start you, alright?"
