Fitz was pretty sure he was about to go poke a sleeping bear. But, pay-offs required gambling, even. Didn't mean you couldn't stack the odds in your favor though.

If there was one thing Fitz hadngottenr really good at on the island, it was stacking those odds. He had learned from some Fae how to not to throw around debts left and right. And from what little he knew about the man he was meeting, he'd need to keep they in mind.

Fitz had chosen one of the nicer bars on the strip to follow Tomas into. In fact, it was one of the places he had scouted out when looking up competition on the island. A place called First Choice.

Sliding up to the bar, not dead center but nowhere near the edge he ordered a glass of top shelf whiskey, doffed his hat and scanned the room in the most subtle of ways. Just had to lay eyes on his mark.

It had been an overly long and exasperating day for Tomas. Good, keep your opinions to yourself, help was harder and harder to find, and if Manuel, his valet, didn’t let up on how a gentleman should act rhetoric, Tomas was going to personally go to the nearest cemetery, dig up a fragrantly rotting corpse and send it his way.

In fact, the thought gave him great satisfaction, it’d dirty up the anal little prick’s immaculately clean floors too, he mused with a little self-satisfied smile… maybe Tomas’d go find a corpse anyways, it’d be fun seeing Manuel all “Oh, my god, my clean floors. Mister Tomas!” as he mentally mimicked his manservant in his mind and just smiled to himself.

“Hey, Randy, a Santa Teresa Orange Rhum… “ he said to the bartender, who kept him stocked in his favourite spirit. Tomas was a rum drinker, whiskey was freaking poison in his mind. And it tasted like shit too.

“Hey, Maria, estas para comersela...” Tomas remarked, switching easily from Spanish to English as he slowly looked, a buxom redheaded waitress, up and down appreciatively, very easily imagining her serving him in other ways too. (* it means "I could eat you up/ or beautiful)

“Tomas.” Maria said in a cool voice,”Nice to see you are as “hijo puta” as ever.” she said with a cool smile, calling him a son of a bitch in Spanish. “And get your mind out of the gutter... “ she had seen his look and knew exactly what it meant.

“Maria, you are such a cold-hearted woman, I was only appreciating your lovely necklace...” Tomas remarked, ignoring the jibe as he reached out and with deliberate slowness, stroked the necklace that hang low, picked it up, admired it and suddenly pulled her closer to him. “Such a beautiful necklace… from an admirer, perhaps?” he asked with a smirk as he held it up and then deliberately dropped the necklace, watching as it landed between her breasts and smiled, meeting her gaze, then biting his lower lip as he winked at her.”Later, Maria.. “ he said as he leaned in, whispered something in her ear, and licked it with his tongue right before she pulled away, and slapped him hard.

Laughing, Tomas raised his glass to her, turned on by her fire, Maria had never been quite intimidated by him, and her begrudgingly respected her for that.

Found him. Fitz knocked down the rest of his drink and gestured further down the bar to indicate he was moving spots to the bartender. He got up and replaced his hat on his head, adjusting it so that it didn't fall over his eyes. A subtle way of making himself seem more open. Friendlier. Less threatening.

Tomas was a son of a bitch, clearly. But Fitz couldn't say he wasn't guilty of those same types of tricks back in the day. He moved a bit down the bar and came to sit on the opposite side of Tomas from where he had just gotten slapped by the woman. Maria, he was pretty sure her name was?

Turning in his seat, he ordered another whiskey. "S'quite th' day when ye piss off a fine thing like tha' fore yer e'en Langers, innit?" He kept his tone even, not talking so fast Tomas couldn't understand him. He hoped, at least.

"Worcher name, bruv? A'm Fitz. Th' Man in th' Green 'at."

Chuckling to himself Tomas watched as Maria, head held high, marched away. Clearly ticked off at him, he saw her talking to the bartender who just shook his head and shrugged. "Coward!" she said loudly and threw a glass of water at him, turned around, gave Tomas a dirty look and walked off.

When a redhead man sat down near him and struck up a conversation. Eyeing him blankly, trying to judge him, Tomas surmised that he was harmless. Probably some poor loser that needed a loan. "Maria has no sense of humor." he remarked wryly, flashing him a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Irish?" Tomas asked, noticing his accent. Ignoring for now his question about his name.

"Summat like tha', aye. Bit from all o'er, really."

Fitz held back his smirk. The man's demeanor, his way of sizing Fitz up. It all fell back to one thing. Fitz often said there was no greater freedom than the freedom of being underestimated. Read that in a book somewhere, but it didn't make it less true.

"A kin wot ye mean though. Beour like 'er wouldn' kin a good time if it slithered up an' bit 'er on th' fanny."

Fitz snorted and kind of chuckled at his own joke, playing up how drunk he really was (i.e. not really at all yet).

"Ah... yer a riot, Bosque. Me best mate. Well, no' me best. Terry's me best mate. Bu' ye an A, birds o' a feather, we are."

Tomas had to chuckle at that, yes, Maria wouldn't know a good time if it bit her in the fanny, among other delectable parts... although, Tomas then realized the "fanny" bit, suspicious now and wondered just how Irish Fritz was. "The biting in the fanny" was an American thing, not an Irish thing. Although, Tomas had to admit, he'd certainly love to do something to Maria's sweet juicy fanny, and biting it would only be the start.

Deciding to play along, Tomas grinned at Fritz's drunken behavious, wondering just how drunk he was or if he was playing it up. He had met way too many over the years, along with gamblers and conmen looking for a curse or a contract that he could get out of. And now, hearing Fritz use his name, well, that rang some bells....

"Birds of a feather, I'd say probably, not..." Tomas said amused by this statement.

"Nobody is like me." he said quite simply, almost arrogantly, because it was the truth, at least in his mind. Nobody, especially not this person in front of him, was his equal. "Also, how did you know who I was?" he asked, now suspicious of Fritz as he tapped his glass and eyed the bartender, wanting a refill.

Fitz's face broke into a stupid grin and he pushed his hand up, brushing his fingers through his hair and doffing his hat in the same motion. He caught the falling hat and put it on the bar, turning out a deck of cards into his palm from seemingly nowhere. He dropped the worst of his accent, taking on a less harsh, easier to understand cant as well.

"I'm a man of fortune, Tomas. And that means I don't go into a situation without knowing as much as I can about the people I'm dealing with."

Fitz tapped his own glass, ordering another drink. He kept his voice low and spoke out of the corner of his mouth, both tricks to keep at least his portion of the conversation unheard.

"I have a... long term business proposition for you. I need someone who can make sure people keep their promises. And from what I've heard, you're quite good at that."

((Out of Character: I had forgotten that in our rules we have stated that we cannot type out accents. So I'll just be describing the thickness/difficulty to understand of what he says from now on.))

(OOC: Not a problem. I just tried to imagine the words being pronounced with an Irish lilt! :) )

Eyeing Fritz now with open skepticism, Tomas decided to let him talk - It had been quite a while since anybody had had the nerve, crazy misplaced confidence or just plain stupidity to openly approach him publicly and offer Tomas an interesting "business" proposition.

"So Fritz, ..was it?" Tomas said evenly as he studied the man before him, his eyes taking in everything about him. "What sort of business proposition do you think someone like you can offer someone like me?" he asked with a hint of very mild interest.

"Fitz, no' Fritz. An' th' proposition A 'ave fer ye 's a simple'un. A need someone 'o can enforce gen'leman's agreements 'tween me an prospective clients. Savvy?" {Fitz, not Fritz. And the proposition I have for you is a simple one. I need someone who can enforce gentleman's agreements between myself and prospective clients. Get it?}

Fitz rubbed the back of his neck, miraculously sobering up and flashing a small grin in Tomas' direction. This man wasn't an idiot, but plausible deniability was a wonderful thing. The entire time he spoke, Fits only really talked out of the side of his mouth, making it nearly impossible to read his lips and keeping his voice low without having to actually whisper.

"Now, wot A'm s'ggestin' ain't stric'ly... smiled upon by th' authorities." {Now what I'm suggesting isn't strictly... smiled upon by the authorities.} He gestured vaguely with his hand, dismissing the unspoken word. Illegal. And highly so. Smuggling, especially between the Narrow Reality and the Veil was a dangerous prospect. But that was why Fitz was planning, and why he needed someone to make people keep their word. "Bu' if ye got th' stone fer it, A ken ye'll be a richer man'n ye e'er been." {But if you have the balls for it, I know you'll be a richer man than you've ever been.}

When Fritz or Fitz corrected him, Tomas raised an eyebrow just very slightly at this, not sure whether to be amused or taken aback by the fact that the guy had had the balls to correct him. Talking a long sip of his rum, Tomas relented and decided to let Fitz continue with his "interesting" proposition.

"Gentlemen's agreements?" Tomas chuckled at Fitz's description of his contracts, "Is that what they call them now?" he quipped as the barkeep put the bottle of orange rum before him. "Not agreements with the devil himself, contracts with Cain, or something else as equally inventive?" he asked with feigned innocent, secretly delighted with the nicknames that his contracts were given.

When Fritz alluded to his proposition being illegal and worth a lot of money, Tomas slowly put his glass of rum down on the bar, now extremely interested in what he had to say. Tomas enjoyed the risk almost more than the money. In fact, things were quite tame lately. Few gamblers dared to sign anything more than a simple,"If you don't pay in 30 days, Tomas del Bosque possesses all you own, or in lieu of chops of a few fingers" type contract, and there weren't as many curses being sought either. Yes, Manta was becoming rather boring of late, and Fitz had appeared, at perhaps, the right moment.

"Stones, balls, cojones, whatever you want to call them," Tomas said with a wide grin, "I have enough to make a whole convent of nuns blush."

Looking at Fritz again, Tomas turned a little in his chair to face him straight on. "I'm already rich, almost too rich if that's possible," he admitted without conceit - it was just a fact actually - "So money, well, that's not a big draw for me anymore." Tomas stated as he stared directly at Fitz while he talked, "However... risk, something illegal, even dangerous, that sounds like something I might be interested in." Tomas said with a slow smile.
