Vladimir puttered around the kitchen. He was extremely glad the week was over. Since the sudden appearance of his old Alma Mater, Vladimir had not only been swamped with work, he had to deal with the fact that a very important part of his past - or what he had thought was his past - was all a lie. And the sudden and constant barrage of forgotten memories often left him feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and needing to release that tension more often than before... thankfully, Kon was there to help him through that.

"I got you a quarter pound of armadillo meat," Vladimir told Konpeito as he made them dinner, pretty sure it might be one of the species he had not tried yet. "Though I'm not too sure how you want it done?" he added as he seasoned his own meat which was just a normal ribeye that had been imported from the UK. Vladimir was not a huge fan of steaks made from the meat grown on the island.

"Oh, I was going to ask," he continued, suddenly remembering the three vampires who had come in that day complaining that their magical abilities were acting strange., and the demon-born patient that came in worried because it seemed like they were being summoned more easily.

"Have you noticed anything strange lately? Like stranger than normal?¨he added, wondering if it was just him, or if there was something more going on that he had not heard about. Vlad had heard his patients whispering about charms failing and all that, but it seemed like it was more than that.

Vladimir was one of the few people Kon could comfortably show his true self to. There was no sunshine and smiles today, only greyness. Literally. Konpeitō's body was almost black-and-white. He sat in the dining room with his head rolled back on his chair towards the ceiling.

"Thank you..Medium rare, please." He spoke as if the simple act of speaking was sucking the life out of him.

Now comfortable, he undid his bow-shaped bun as Vladimir spoke. "I've been keeping up with the news and there's been a surge of magical energy happening. Charms have also been failing. I've been getting many updates from TWIS members. I swear, it's one thing after another."

"Medium rare, just how you like it," Vladimir said as he set a plate down before Kon with the armadillo and a few sides he knew Kon liked and could eat.

"Unfortunately, I know just how you feel... Every day there seems to be something else," Vlad said as he took a seat at the table and gave Kon a sympathetic look. His boyfriend looked like Vlad felt - worn out, and in need of something to lift his spirits.

"And I am not surprised to hear that magic is surging... It'd explain a lot of what is happening," he said as he cut into a baked potato.

"In fact, we did get an official notice about the charms. Too bad it was the very same day a group of students was rushed into emergency. It turns out a good number of their charms failed just as they were getting on a bus to go to a soccer match," Vladimir said with a shake of his head at the memory.

Kon sat straight up and smiled thankfully at Vladimir. He even recovered some of his colors. Being able to feel awful openly made him feel a little better. The stress was slowly seeping out of him the longer he stayed here.

That smile didn't last long as Vladimir told him the news of the students on a bus. "I don't know what to say. That sounds horrible. I've heard some of my own horror stories from members. It makes me... Heh, I know this sounds awful to say, but it makes me want to quit, pick you up, and leave the island until the status quo is renewed. But... I'm sure that if magic is becoming a mess here, it'll become a mess in the Narrow Reality eventually."

He sighed and acknowledged his foot by cutting into the meat. He was hungry. He knew he had to eat. Yet his movements were slow and wobbly.

Taking a bit of his food, Vladimir nodded as Kon spoke.

"It was hard, and those kids are going to have a hard time trusting another human charm after this," Vladimir stated. He could easily guess that phycological damage of something like that.

"No, you're fine. After what happened with the DCA, I was almost going to suggest getting away from here for a while," he confessed as he looked at Kon, and smiled a little when he noticed his colors starting to slowly appear once again.

Hearing that Vladimir also thought about taking a break from the island reassured him that his thoughts were as bad as they seemed. "My biggest concern is all the people we're leaving behind. People are remembering relationships long lost and those from Dark Crystal are adjusting to their new lives. I would have to put someone in charge and be ready to pay them for however long I'm gone."

This was why he kept himself as the head of TWIS: he preferred keeping all the work to himself. He didn't have to pay someone to be his regular assistant. It was also safer to keep all the work to himself when he knew he could do it.

"I'm also worried about you. I think it's better to confront what's happening early on instead of running away."

Vladimir just shook his head. "It would not be running away so much as taking a moment to myself ... or ourselves," he corrected himself as he looked across the table at Kon, a slightly exhausted look on his face.

"This whole thing with the DCA has left me feeling ...weirdly unsettled. Every day, I wake up and remember something else, and it often feels like I have lived two lives and both are real, but at the same time not," he admitted with a sigh as he sat back in his seat.

"For twelve years, I thought I had gone to Starlight, graduated from there, and that all my colleagues and friends were from there," he said darkly.

"And then I wake up one morning and everything I thought I knew wasn't what it seemed," Vladimir said, once again feeling slightly frustrated that he had forgotten about his past. He knew that it was due to some kind of magic, but that illogical part of his being still insisted that he should have somehow known.

Kon nodded at Vladimir's explanation, mildly ashamed that he didn't take that into consideration. To not stick with a bad situation and deal it was an almost foreign concept to him. To just leave, temporarily or not, sounded too easy. But Vladimir was an actual doctor, while Kon lived his life with no way but to stay in a bad situation. He knew better than to argue on this point.

And clearly, his boyfriend needed some consoling. Konpeitō tensed at Vladimir's venting. Not because he disliked it, but because he needed to be careful with his words.

"I've been hearing that experience a lot. It's... awful that so many people had their lives taken from them. I don't know how to put my feelings into words... It's unnerving. To know that something like that happened in the first place." He could feel himself becoming frustrated at the situation. While he wasn't directly involved, it was horrible to think about.

"Have you been writing down what you remember?" Kon asked. It only felt right to give some advice after all of that. "Writing down your old and new memories might help you... I don't know," he laughed awkwardly, suddenly feeling out of place, "clear up your emotions."

Vladimir didn't say anything as Kon talked about the others like him. He didn't have to, he knew exactly what they felt, and agreed wholeheartedly. It was awful, and unnerving - all of it. And Vladimir admittedly did not know how to deal with it at times.

"No, no I haven't," he confessed as he picked at his food. "It's not something I really ever considered doing," he told Kon, being open and honest with him.

"And it's not a bad idea, but I am not sure if it will even work..." he said with a sigh. "I get so overwhelmed. It's like a floodgate has opened up and it's not just one or two memories at a time... it's five or six, sometimes more," he told Konpeito.

Konpeitō's eyes widened. He thought his suggestion would have been used already. It boosted his confidence somewhat. If he could give advice like that to Vladimir, it meant they were on a more equal level, even if he wasn't a doctor.

Kon listened while pushing his food around with his fork. Right, he had food. A delicious meal that Vladimir made just for him. Eating wasn't on his mind right now, but he refused to waste his boyfriend's meal. Vladimir would likely tell him to eat for health reasons anyhow. He finally took a bite of his meal, but by then Vladimir had finished speaking.

"Then we'll put that idea on hold." He paused to think of an alternative. "I don't know how else to manage memories like that. In fact..." he laughed airily, "I may be the worst person to give advice. I traded away most of the emotions connected to my old memories to escape them. But this is much different from that. It may be a thing where you have to wait for all of your memories to come in and be processed before making your next move."
