Desperate measures

Tiny sat up, still clinging to Angelo's hand. She would talk. Angelo had asked her nicely after all. And the sooner she started working with them the sooner she would be shipped off to where it was even safer. She knew they were doctors, but Angelo wanted her to talk to them so she would as long as no one pulled out a needle.

Tiny peeked around Angelo's side, eyes big and round as she watched them approach. She listened and answered quietly to most questions, falling silent and squeezing Angelo's side if they asked very personal questions, anything relating to family. She would lie, very obviously, if they asked for her reasons for starting the bank robbery. This part had clearly been premeditated, and feeling safe in Angelo's cruiser, there was less babbling. Everything was understandable. Anything to have a shorter side trip to the hospital. Anything to make it to the behavioural corrections facility as soon as possible.

What the fuck.

The moment the EMT's showed up for the consult, Tiny was normal. Well, not normal--they kept right on clinging to Angelo's hand despite his attempts to pull back--but normal. Not babbling. Not incoherent. Not desperately begging to go away or something.

What the hell.

Angelo ground his teeth as the EMTs finally gave a shrug, declaring that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with Tiny. Angelo simply thanked them for their time, turning back to Tiny the moment they were out of earshot.

"What the hell?" Angelo said, his eyebrows furrowed tight together as he reached down to break Tiny's grip on his wrist. "What the hell was that? You were incoherent with me and now you're totally fine?"

Well, mostly fine. She hadn't given a real answer on why she'd robbed the bank.

"This is serious, Tiny."

Tiny recoiled away from Angelo, wiggling up against the far door. He was mad. She made him mad.

"Don't wanna go to the hospital..."

Tiny tried not to cry agian. She knew she deserved Angelo's anger. She had, after all, basically just used him and wasted all of his time.

"Hospitals aren't safe here. People are trying to bomb them. The island is full of people who would kill me by accident and never blink an eye. I wanna go somewhere safe but i can't just go. I asked."

Tiny patted the metal separating the back of the cruiser.

"Safe here. Not scared."

She pointed to Angelo next.

"Not scary. Trusted."

Tiny frowned. Would he even believe her? Would he tell on her? Call them back? Tiny slowly moved her finger to point at the bank.

"Crime. It gets a prison sentence. I want to go. Off the island. New york isn't safe. Islets are. Islets are very safe."

Christ, that was what was happening? This entire thing was a ploy to go to the islets? Angelo paused, scrubbing at his face for a moment as he tried to wrap his head around it. She was trying to get thrown into the islets.

There was no question that she was unwell--her reasoning was downright stupid, considering she was exposing herself to nothing but criminals--but it seemed pointless to try and force her into therapy. An inpatient facility would have the same resources that the islets would, and if that made Tiny calmer...

Angelo dropped his hand to his pocket, running his fingers over the necklace in his pocket for a moment before letting out a sigh.

"Fine," Angelo said. "I'll get them to take you to the islets."

Tiny forced herself to give Angelo a small smile. Tried to look like she was happy with getting what she wanted. But she'd hurt Angelo in the process. She had gone into this thinking that no one would get hurt. No questions asked if she was odd. But Angelo was hurt because she'd lied to him. He had a right to be. Tiny just hoped he wouldn't be mad forever.

"Thank you. I'm. I'm sorry, Angelo. It made sense at the time..."

Tiny drooped, slumping down on the seat and hiding her face. She sniffled and made no move to get back up or do anything else, making it clear she didn't have anything else to say. Tiny was done. Mission accomplished. Someone else would take care of it from here.

Well, at least it was done. Tiny had slumped down, and Angelo... well, Angelo was done.

"Buckle up," Angelo called as he closed the back door, leaving Tiny on the seat as he looped around to the front of the car. He took his time to report the basics, and then buckled himself in.

He was going to have a lot of paperwork to do, but once they were at the station, Tiny would be out of his hands and into someone else's hair.
