Another round of detention, another opportunity to spread her message.

This time, Andrasta was bolder about it than she had been, setting up right outside of a room where she knew detention would be happening, just down the hall. Poster on the wall next to her, which read "NO MORE DETENTION" in big letters and "Vote Riley 'Andrasta' Keegan for Student Council President" in smaller letters. As the delinquents filed out of detention, Andrasta handed out fliers.

"Detention sucks and we shouldn't do it anymore!" she announced into the hallway, waving a flier at the stream of students. Another known delinquent and frequent detention-haver was with Andrasta, also handing out fliers. These fliers explained Andrasta's position against detention in brief: detention doesn't even make people behave better, it only makes them miserable for no reason, and they can work together to pressure the school to end it.

She also had a clipboard, with a sheet for names, emails, and phone numbers of people that wanted to get involved.

Delaney was pissed off. Super pissed off. She was pissed off for a lot of reasons, but at the moment she was pissed because the stupid detention teacher said Georgette had to stay beside her desk and not next to Delaney. Georgette was her SERVICE ANIMAL. The teacher SHOULD NOT be able take her service animal from her. But nooooo, having a dog next to you in detention totally defeated the point of it! Never mind it was a working animal that Delaney needed for guidance and comfort.

After all! Delaney was sitting in a desk for an hour, what ever would she need her SERVICE ANIMAL for? So, Delaney fought back the only way she could and that was by doing nothing. The teacher said she had to work on homework. Delaney said how could she work on what she couldn't see? She got a second detention. Whatever. She'll do nothing then too.

Then finally, finally, after an excruciating two hours detention let out. Delaney happily called Georgette to her side and booked it out of the room. The poodle walked extra close to her side, perhaps sensing Delaney's foul mood. She was just consideringwhere to go when she heard something going on down the hall.

"Detention sucks and we shouldn't do it anymore!"

Oh hell, yes. Delaney moved towards the speaker, focused on Georette as the dog guided her through the crowded people. Soon, Delaney arrived before Andrasta. "Yo, what do I gotta do to stop detention? Because it's dumb and I hate it. And the teachers who run it piss me off."

Hell yeah. This is what Andrasta wanted to hear. "We've gotta organize. Make them realize that detention only makes things worse, and pressure the school until they change it."

She held out a flyer towards Delaney, but someone else seemed to want one too ("can I have one of those?" "Sure"), so Andrasta handed one to them. But she went right back to holding out a flier for Delaney.

"It also helps if I get in student council," she nodded back at her poster, "But that's not the only thing."

Delaney nodded emphatically. "It totally makes things worse! I just got another detention because I refused to do my homework because the teacher is dumb and made my service dog sit next to her instead of me." She couldn't see the offered flyer, and so made no move to take it. "Something seriously has to be done. Like, ugh! Georgette is a dog but she's my service animal. I don't care about your bullshit excuses, teacher! She's my service animal and you can't make her sit away from me!" It was a struggle to not yell as Delaney got to the end there.

"And I only got this stupid detention because I got mad at my teacher." Which, okay, don't talk back to teachers, but Delaney only did it because her math teacher was dumb.

Andrasta looked at the dog. She looked at Delaney, and that was when she finally made the connection. "Oh," she said out loud. And she handed a flier out to another one of the kids leaving detention.

"Yeah, that sounds really shitty. I don't know much about service animals, but... now I'm more pissed off than usual. They've gotta stop doing stuff like that." She didn't even think about how this could be worse for students with disabilities, like being blind.

"So, I'm Andrasta, and I'm running for president."

"Like, seriously." Delaney didn't learn anything by being in detention. Well, maybe she did and what she learned was that some teachers would rather throw kids in detention then deal with them. "You are? That's awesome. I'll totally vote for you. And like, you need me to talk to anyone and tell them about what I've gone through then let me know.

"And I'm Delaney. You got anything I can sign that'll help out the cause?"

"Yeah! I mean, I haven't started a petition yet, but. If you have an email or a phone number I was gonna send out some messages to tell people if I'm starting a petition or a protest or whatever. Right now we're just trying to spread the word."

She almost offered the clipboard to Delaney, but then she remembered again. Blind. Right. "Can you, uh... do text messages or emails?"

Delaney nodded and would definitely try to get her friends involved with a protest. Lizzy would totally go for it. Chi and Rowan would need some needling. Avigail would do it, but she was only half of that equation. Though, once they heard what happened they'll be just as pissed as herself.

"Text or email. I have text to speech on my phone and my school computer. I can show my number and email address." Delaney pulled her phone from her pocket and used voice commands to open a notes app that she put various communication information on. Then showed the screen for Andrasta to copy down.

"Cool!" She hadn't thought about voice commands or text to speech. It made a lot of sense, though. She wrote down the information Delaney gave her, along with her name. "Awesome. I'll let everyone know if we get a petition or something started. Until then, spread the word. And uh..."

She looked at one of her fliers. "Also, uh, did you know they did a study on how well detention works at making people behave better? And they basically proved it doesn't work, with science. So. You can tell people that, too. It's not just us saying it, it's science."

Man, she hasn't been at this school for long but now she's getting involved in protests and stuff! None of this would have flown at her own school. Andrasta would have been expelled or something. Delaney supposed Starlight wouldn't expel anyone unless it was super serious. "They did? That's awesome. I'd love to throw some science at some teachers faces. You got a flier with all this info on it?" Delaney said, an idea coming to mind.

The teen held out her hand to touch the paper. "I can't read it but I can learn all the knowledge you put on it. It's a super power of mine." She said with a grin.
