Before Clayton could strike his target, another geyser of water shot up in the space between him in the stranger, taking him up with it. The geyser froze, creating a pillar of ice that left Clayton suspended high above the forest. His sword and his left foot were embedded in the pillar. He tried to pull both out at the same time, to no avail, so he resorted to punching the ice around his sword with his normal arm. The ice crumbled away in two punches, which broke his hand, then freed his sword, then left him dangling from his trapped foot. He struck the around his foot with his sword and was freed. The brief traction that his feet found made him reflexively jump.
Clayton tumbled through the air. He landed on his feet in the river—shattering his ankles—and fell backwards. It took his broken hand and ankles a little longer to heal than when his arm had been broken, and just like before, he was up as soon as he could be.
There was no way to tell for sure, but it seemed like the Inciting Demon was looking at the stranger. Clayton didn't take the time to ponder this. He lunged with the same standard attack, and his sword missed, finding itself felling a tree once more. The Inciting Demon stood in front of another tree and dodged again. Clayton never missed a beat, even as the Inciting Demon leapt to the other side of the river, making the fight almost looked choreographed. A dozen trees fell in the stranger's direction, with more coming as Clayton persisted in his onslaught on the Inciting Demon.

JIANG ZHENG QING
Qing dragged a sharp breath in. His ice wall had been fast enough to catch the man's sword, but not enough to stop the sword from actually cutting him. It drew blood -- or water, really, as a thin, clear liquid spilled from a line cut across Qing's raised arm. The wound healed much as Clayton's did. Within seconds it had sealed, and the bleeding stopped, though Qing winced in phantom pain. But he'd no time to think about it; already, the man was pounding at his wall, and without Qing focussing on keeping it there, the man would break through very soon.

Qing jumped back, putting a safe distance between the man and himself. Just in time, too, as it was then that the ice shattered beneath the man's force. Instead of coming toward Qing, though, the man... jumped? He was thrown towards the water. There! His chance! Qing threw his arm out again, then clenched his fists, trying to trap the man again by sucking him down into the water. Unfortunately, Qing was a moment too slow -- the water moved, but the man moved faster. Before Qing could even cause the water to do anything to Clayton, Clayton was already pursing... whatever it was that he was trying to get.

Maybe, if his target wasn't Qing, Qing could help the stranger to fight? He set his sights on the black figure as it weaved its way between the trees. As each one fell, Qing dodged out of the way, then rooted himself solidly onto the ground. He stood feet apart, knees bent in a stable position. Then, like before, he gritted his teeth and willed the water in the trees to move, aiming to send the trees themselves crashing onto the black shape.

The stranger dodged all of the trees that fell towards him. The Inciting Demon was looking at him the whole time while simultaneously dodging Clayton's sword strikes with ease. It had stopped trying to get Clayton to take down trees and was instead leading him in circles.
The Inciting Demon got itself some distance from Clayton by causing him to trip himself up. It noticed that the trees that had fallen around the stranger were now floating. They flew in the direction of the Inciting Demon. Clayton, either not knowing or not caring about the incoming danger, jumped right back into the fray. The Inciting Demon slipped away from danger with a few swift steps, leaving Clayton to take the brunt of the attack. A tree trunk slammed into his torso, cracking a few ribs, and another tree landed on one his legs, crushing it.
The stranger now had the Inciting Demon's attention. It watched from a safe distance with a literally unreadable expression.

There were intended and unintended consequences, and having the Thing's attention on him was neither.

Qing had no time to ponder that, though, and as the trees fell, he spread his fingers, then made a fist. The water in the tree trunks obeyed, and the trunks were now experiencing a downwards force. He targeted the tree on the stranger's legs, hoping that this pressure would keep the man down until he could be subdued. He seemed to be a self-healing kind of creature, so Qing wasn't sure if his method would even work. As long as the stranger could get the tree off of himself...

Humans were 70% water, or so he'd been told. Zheng Qing wondered...

No. Wasn't that illegal? As a god, perhaps not. As a law-abiding citizen, he definitely couldn't control the water in the man's blood.

He stared in the Thing's direction, eyes narrowed. Clearly, as he'd now realised, that was the real threat. But he couldn't do anything as long as the man continued his rampage.

The Inciting Demon "stared" down the stranger. Meanwhile, the weight that the tree exerted on Clayton's legs strengthened. His legs weren't functioning, so he began trying to lift the tree with his arms.
Just as Clayton was starting to make some progress, a switch flipped in his brain. The anger slipped from his mind, and as the situation at hand became apparent, fear took its place. He now had the overwhelming urge to get away from the stranger. This wasn't supposed to happen until a few more minutes later, but Clayton had never taken such a beating before. He'd expended a lot of energy for the sake of healing.
The Inciting Demon rushed the stranger with blazing speed. It wouldn't attack, but it would dodge all of the stranger's attacks. Clayton pushed the trees off his legs and began crawling away. His ribs were nearly fully healed, but his legs needed a little longer.
