Dancing... What else?

It was easy, to dance.

Veronica was in the Ballroom, a black satin dress that she liked to think was the cause of all the stares she'd been feeling, instead of her cane and sunglasses.

She'd been sent the dress as a Christmas present from her parents, and the second she took it out of the box she loved it.
She'd felt it all over, finally slipping it on and marveling at the perfect fit, the unaccustomed feel of the slippery cloth against her legs, the even more odd feeling of bare shoulders, spaghetti straps proudly hoisting the wonderful cloth and making her as close to a princess that she'd ever get.

Not that she'd admit any of that, of course.

Still, she couldn't help but want to try it out, pull her shining black hair up in a perfect ponytail and take a walk through the halls of the school. She was hardly trying to put on a show for the other students, no, but she liked feeling pretty, and that's just what she was feeling.

Well, not at first. At first she felt idiotic, walking through the halls in such finery when everyone else was dressed in too-big jeans and baggy t-shirts, but somewhere along the way from her dorm to the ballroom she remembered she didn't care what they thought and forgot them all.

And now she was dancing, for the first time in years, although you couldn't tell to look at her. She'd only been to one lesson, more then enough time for her to memorize the slow tapping of feet and copy it perfectly. She whirled around the ballroom, knowing from the echo of her shoes on the marbled floors that there was no risk of being seen.

Veronica finished the dance with a flourish, bowing slightly to no one and starting another, a more complex one that no one else had been able to do without falling. A pity, that she was only able to do the dances reserved for only one person, the ones with the spinning and fancy footwork that was starting to bore her. It was much more fun with two people, with all the dipping and swirling and coordination her powers made her so good at. Of course, there was no one at this school she'd be willing to dance with... She sighed, mood momentarily brought down. She hated this school so much, and the people in it even more.

Josie was quietly watching the girl for quite a while before she spoke. "You are incredible!" she said quietly.

Veronica had just started again when the girl finally spoke, and was in the middle of a spinning jump that reminded her of something pulled straight from an ice skating rink. She rolled her eyes beneath her sunglasses, shoes clicking softly as she touched the floor again. Is there a rule that says no student should be allowed to actually be alone for more then five minutes?

She finally sighed, all the excitement at getting the dress worn out at the idea that someone was watching her, would think her one of those stupid girls who pranced around with their hair in braids and a smile on their face. But then again, she didn't really care what the voice thought. She pulled her hair out of the ponytail, gathering it all up again and fastening the scrunchy with a flick of her wrist. "You flatter me," She finally announced in a toneless voice, neither hostile nor welcoming. "Are you waiting for me to free the dancing floor?"

When no immediate answer was given, she shrugged slightly and raised her slender arms above her head, continuing the dance.

"No. I'm sorry. I was just taking a walk and happened to see you. I'll go now, I guess." she turned to leave but before she left, she turned again to watch. Her blindness makes her better... she thought to herself. That or her powers. Or both.

Veronica nodded softly, not really caring either way. "It doesn't." She chuckled softly, sensing what she was thinking. "I'm hardly Daredevil. And no, I can't read minds. It's painfully easy to tell what you're thinking, the way you're standing."

She dropped her pose, suddenly feeling more like kicking puppies then dancing. "Yes, it's my power. I pick up on things easily, as you can see." She couldn't help but turn towards the girl, walking forward until she was just a few feet away. "And just because I'm blind doesn't mean I don't know you're still standing there."

She wasn't mad, not really. She was simply informing the girl, lest she get the wrong impression.

Josie didn't take it offensively. "I wasn't trying to fool you. And are you sure you can't read minds?"

Veronica nodded, tucking behind her ear a stray lock of ebony hair that had already fell from her ponytail. "Quite sure. I can read body language, emotions, and you'd be suprised what the pitch of your voice gives away. But it's hardly mind reading, no." She straightened a strap on the dress, not bothering to look in the direction of the girl's voice.

She raised an eyebrow, tapping one soft-toed shoe on the floor. "Cool," She repeated, crossing her arms and leaning on one foot. "I suppose."

Why am I still here? Veroica bared her teeth in a sickly sweet smile, summoning her cane to one hand and brushing past the girl out the door. "Not that it hasn't been extremely interesting talking to you -" She paused, letting a small laugh trickle through. "-but I'm afraid I simply must be going."
