Daichi Hanasaki

Daichi stands at 5’ 6” with a lithe body—thin but muscular, as expected of his profession. He has red eyes, but wears one yellow contact during performances to make his eyes mis-matched. His hair is a little under shoulder length, wavy and a grayish-blushish tone.

On stage, he wears elaborate outfits just like the rest of the troupe. Outside the stage, he…still wears pretty wild outfits, though they are at least a little more casual than his show costumes. He also wears black gloves all the time.

Despite being 28 years old, he still looks as he did when he was 17 because he was turned into a vampire at that age.​

Daichi’s little sister Kiyoko describes her brother as ‘just the right amounts of smart and crazy.’ Daichi is a big, eccentric personality. He loves to make people laugh, and often takes the role of a bumbling vampire who tries too hard in order to create comedic relief in the Hanasaki Troupe shows.

He is aggressively committed to his work, and is known to be a bit of a control freak and perfectionist—though Kiyoko manages to calm him down when he gets too worked up. At the same time though, his determination is how Daichi keeps his shows running and keeps them running well. He is sympathetic to first time mistakes, but repetitive mistakes or a lack of discipline will get someone kicked out of his troupe quickly.

He is willing to take risks, though he tries to keep them as calculated as he can…though that is not always the case. Like his several maxed out credit cards he’s still paying off…

Painting Black​

Gained from his father, Daichi has the ability to turn any inanimate object black with his hand, and can paint black shapes into the air. Anything he paints black can be reverted back to normal.

He doesn’t have as good control over this power as his sister does over her own painting powers, and has to wear gloves in order to avoid turning anything he touches black.

Vampire Bat​

Daichi can temporary shift into a swarm of bats. He can last as a bat swarm for up to 1 hour before he has to return to his regular form. If the bats are injured, Daichi will experience physical injuries on his body as well.

Vampire Physiology​

As a vampire, Daichi has an extended lifespan and physically will show no signs of aging.

He is stronger and has more stamina than the average human, which is built upon his already-athletic body from before he was a vampire.

Daichi strictly feeds from blood bags and has never fed from another person before. He is prone to blood frenzy if he has not fed in 24 hours.

A stake to the heart is also a viable way to kill him.

He also cannot enter a household without being invited inside.

Daichi is the first son of Chou and Gorou Hanasaki, born and raised on the island. He gained his power of Painting Black from his father, whose powers revolved around art and painting. His younger sister Kiyoko got the ability to paint colors, while Daichi got only black.

Between the ages of 14 and 17, Daichi was in a relationship with a vampire girl named Lori. They were typical lovey-dovey teenagers who thought they would be together forever, and eventually Daichi agreed to let Lori turn him.

They didn’t last long after that.

Daichi regretted his decision, but had no choice but to continue living as a vampire. He hasn’t dated since, and instead threw himself into school; graduating high school early to move on to college. Daichi was torn on what to study in college: he loved doing creative things, but also wanted to study business so that he could be his own boss.

Then he realized: why not both? He double-majored in Business and Theatre and went on to form the Hanasaki Troupe shortly after graduation. It wasn’t easy: it started off with just him and Kiyoko, and a whole lot of maxed out credit cards to afford basic supplies. They started doing street performances and small shows at festivals to raise money, then bought an old run down theatre which eventually became the Hanasaki Theatre. Then, Daichi began recruiting until he had enough performers to put on their first major show: Sakura no Uta.

It had a bumpy start, with very few people aware or interested in seeing it. But a few people gave it a chance, and they told their friends to check it out, and sure enough word spread. The show became a success, and Daichi made enough to continue the troupe. Each show has been more and more successful ever since, and the Hanasaki Troupe will continue to run shows for as long as Daichi can keep coming up with ideas.​
