Shay had left, locking herself in her room, but Angelo remained. It was a lot. No, it was somehow more than a lot. He'd just--more or less--adopted what was looking to be about a dozen kids.
Mostly out of nowhere, too.
Angelo hadn't planned on it. He hadn't thought the idea of him adopting Shay would ever come up. But presented with the option, he couldn't make himself not take it. He couldn't not give them the chance to get out the way he'd gotten out. There was no Manta Carlos for them, no magical island that would steal them away from the life they'd been inducted into, but there was Angelo, and he was going to do his very best to do the same thing.
Angelo had excused himself during Shay's speech to make his own call. It was, to say the least, a pretty big one. A month off work for a sergeant on zero notice was generally not something that happened, but a month off work because you'd just offered to adopt six-or-more Rosales children and also you had found out the Kingpin and his right hand man were gone and oh also you had information about the true identity of a serial killer...
Well, that was a different story.
With the call done--Angelo having promised to come in and explain everything as soon as he could--Angelo had returned to the manor properly, making himself available. He knew some of the kids, but plenty others knew him only by reputation, and if they were going to come, they'd probably want to know him at the very least.
That was fine with Angelo.
