Silas was glad that he was settling into the school and the island rather well, rather quickly. The new friends he was making made for an easy transition, especially since a few of them knew exactly what he was going through, being in shock of all the different supernatural personalities and such. It was strange for him to find out that they were all real. Vampires, demons, merfolk, the fae. All of it. Not for the first time in his life, he felt a bit out of place. He was too weird for one side of the Veil, and not weird enough for the other. But at least he had a few people in his corner.

One of which wanted to hang out with him tonight. Of all nights...

"Shit. I'm really sorry, but I can't tonight. Tomorrow for sure." He had his phone pressed against his ear, shoulder leaned up against the wall, ankles crossed. "Seriously, I can't tonight. I have GOT to get in some applications for a job or something. I can't live off of my dad's money forever. Hell, I don't want to live off of it now. I'd rather spend what I earned myself, you know? Problem is that most of the places that are hiring around here are bars. And I can't work in a bar. I'm one year shy of legal age."

There was a little bit of chatter on the other end, but eventually, Silas nodded and gave a half-smile. "Alright, just don't get in trouble. I'll see you tomorrow."

After he hung up, he let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose. He wasn't really looking forward to hitting the pavement, but it's all he could really do.

"You can take those upstairs to the dorms with you if you want," Celeste said to a taller, willowy student as she exited the classroom a few minutes later, referring to the large brown pastry box of blueberry scones she had made earlier for the class as a demonstration of what scones should actually look like.

As Celeste left the classroom, she stopped for a second, trying to remember when she had to pick up Ebviony, and where Roldan had wanted to meet later that afternoon, and as she pondered these two things she couldn't help but overhear one of her students talking about needing a job, but not wanting to work at a restaurant.

"Silas?" she said when he hung up the phone. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but are you, by chance, looking for a job?" she asked quite curiously as she eyed her student questioningly.

Christ. Manta Carlos was cool and everything, especially with the lower drinking age and stuff, and school was a breeze. Why was this the only thing he was having a hard time with? He slid his phone into his pocket as he heard someone call his name. He lit up a bit and turned around. Oh, it was his home ec teacher. "Oh, hey Miss Forestier."

Instantly, all he could think about were things that he might have done wrong. He had only been in there a week. What could he have possibly done wrong? Thankfully, his worries were receded to dust when she continued to speak.

"I mean, is it really eavesdropping if I was being loud in a public place? And I mean, even if it were, what am I gonna do about it, y'know?" His fingertips fiddled with the edge of his pocket, where he had just put his phone away. Something about authority made him a bit uneasy. "But uh, yes ma'am. It feels better to work towards something and earn it rather than take Daddy's money and piss on it, y'know?" He cleared his throat a bit and slipped both hands in his pocket. "Sorry. But uh, do you know anyone who's hiring? Restaurant work is fine, I just can't serve booze yet."
