Eon's challenge was, by that point, pretty well known. They were, if rumor was to be believed, making the same challenge to more or less anyone: Catch him.

Which was easier said than done. He was a shapeshifting, teleporting cat last Angelo had heard, and the teleporting part of that alone was... well, good luck.

But Angelo couldn't resist a challenge, and he was out and about with Wind's Respite, so when he spotted Eon on his way to the community center, he really just had to ask.

"Hey, Eon," he called, genuinely unclear on if Eon even had a last name. "You're doing the regalia thing, right?"

Eon was just lounging around with a young woman in her mid twenties. In general his challenge was simple and straightforward: Within ten minutes all you had to do was catch him.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy... right?

No it wasn't for most people, he just had a nice little bag of tricks made for things like this. Most people didn't have the tools to work around em. Officer Genovese was a bit of a surprise. He didn't even realize he'd entered.

"Yep! That's right, Theresa read him the rules!"

She scowled at Eon for a second before standing up. "You've got ten minutes to catch Eon here. The challenge will be conducted within the limits of the park. You have full use of your powers. Eon must stay as a cat... and cannot leave the limits of the park. You will be provided with..." she pulled out a cloth sack. "This ugly sack to stuff him into. If you succeed you'll win a fabulous prize."

She rolled her eyes and looked back at Eon. He was licking his paw, eyeing Angelo.

"Do you accept?"

Wind's Respite had more or less decided she wasn't really going to be involved by the time Eon's Regalia had half-finished explaining the rules. She gave a polite smile, stepped to the side, and resigned herself to watching, blissfully unaware of Angelo's capabilities.

Angelo, though? He was ready. He knew what he was doing. He'd planned the whole thing out since he'd first heard it was a thing, and he was fairly confident.

"Deal," Angelo said. "Ten minutes, yeah?"

He could do that, and he waited for someone to declare the little competition on before he started.

Simple enough. He just got about ten feet away, and then he started to simply circle around Eon, getting an idea of what he was going to do.

"So how do most people do this. Run at the teleporter, like that's going to work?"

Angelo was smart enough to know he couldn't just come right in and snag him. But there were a lot of ways these things went with Eon. Sometimes he ran, sometimes he teleported. He'd open with one of his meaner tricks just to guage Angelo's reactions.

"The ones who forget. They usually lose, kinda sad. Other times I'll just..." he suddenly opened a portal on the ground right in front of Angelo to fall through. It led to the far end of the park. Time to start the show.

Alright, that was just mean. One minute Angelo was walking, and the next he was falling, tumbling through the hole and landing hard on the far side of the park. No wonder this was such a trial--Eon played dirty.

But that was okay: So did he.

The moment Eon looked away, even for a moment, Angelo would just stop being there. Of course, he actually was there (or at least a few feet over, because Angelo was starting to zigzag up towards Eon), but he'd simply made himself effectively invisible as he advanced towards the cat.

Wind's Respite wasn't immune to his powers, and she startled suddenly when, one moment to the next, Angelo was just gone.

"Hold on," she said quietly. "Is he just too fast...?"

Angelo had dropped off of Eon's radar, more or less the second he'd dropped him across the park. This would be annoying, he had no idea how long he'd even have, seconds probably. Eon wasn't taking the chance. He teleported across the park in the direction he'd sent Officer Genovese. He needed to... find a hole to slip into. someplace where he couldn't just bag him.

It was time to break out some tricks. He teleported again, this time to a tree there was a burrow that some animal had left at this particular one. Normally, something like that would be just small for a normal cat. For Eon however... He'd make it work. He stuffed himself in there then he waited.

Angelo could take his time. He had ten minutes, after all, and Angelo was fast. Really fast. People often failed to realize how fast Angelo was, practically blurring across the park as he moved to catch up.

The issue was finding Eon. Angelo spun around, doing his best to track the portal. It wasn't exactly easy to do, but he had a big advantage. The moment Eon popped a portal, Angelo froze time, letting him take in all the details to figure out. To figure out where he was, seeking it out over the next few minutes.

Once he'd found the right tree though...

Well, up close it was hard to keep his invisibility, carefully climbing up the tree. He had to go slow, and he had to be quiet, and he had to figure out how the hell he was going to get a cat out of a tree.

This was gonna be one of those boring chases. Eon's plan, since Officer Genovese just had the speed of fucking God, and totally dropped off his radar was... stall him out. This was simple, easy even. He wouldn't just get baited out just like that. This little hole he'd found was kinda cozy. He started humming the theme song to Cops.

This was a hell of a lot trickier than he'd thought it was going to be. He'd counted on his invisibility to get him far, but there was no such luck. He had plenty of time to think (something he was judiciously using to figure out his next plan of attack), but his gun was far too serious, and that was more or less the extent of his toolkit.

If he tapped the tree, they'd probably just make a portal and bolt. If he grabbed them? Maybe the same thing.

He tried something similar instead. He simply slid the bag right beside the hole, ready to snatch if needed, and then tapped the side of the tree with his thumb, just to cause enough noise to hopefully pull Eon out.

So the bag was here now and Angelo was tapping on the tree. It was pretty loud for him, but hearing loss was a worthy sacrifice for victory. Alright, well he'd just leave then, teleport out of the hole. Well... more like next to a trash can near the starting point. It didn't matter.

"Meow," he called tauntingly.
