"It's not that easy. Fish need to be able to see your lips - their language is like a mix between speech and sign language. Obviously, they can't see through air, so that wouldn't work. Thanks for trying, though."

"What do I do for fun? Well, usually I just walk around the place and see what kind of animals I meet."
Annoyed at his lack of an answer, Felix turned the question around.
"What about you?"

"Wow, it sounds complicated just to talk to water animals. I hope you'll be able to find a way to talk to them," Ember said with a smile.

"Well, I'm a big thinker, so I love just, you know, walking around and just thinking, really. But I also love watching movies, writing and reading."

"Movies, huh."
Felix had never lived in the kind of family where movies were accepted. They were considered too 'simple' for his family, but he had never agreed with that.
"What do you read, exactly? I've never really had a chance to read basic mainstream books - I got brought up on Shakespeare and all that."

"Hm, i've read some Shakespeare too, but i think my favorite kind of books are mysteries. There's this one series which I really love. It's like a horror/mystery with some hereditaray magic, really good. It's called "Blue is for Nightmares" if you want to check it out. How come you only read Shakespeare?" Ember asked. SDhe found it a bit odd that Felix had only read old-century play books, though she did enjoy them herself.

"It's the only thing my parents thought was good enough for me. But the truth is they rammed the stuff down my throat and I hated it."
Felix at the same time, was a critical analyst of many of the playwright's works and hated the plays he was so good at talking about. Almost ironic, some could say.

"What do you mean "Good enought for you"? Didn't you tell them you didn't like reading it? My mom encouraged me to read whatever spiked my interest." Ember smiled as she thought about plays anda cting, one of her few passions. "I love acting in plays, i used to be in a few plays back at home, but then i had to concentrate more on my power than acting."

"They thought modern literature was 'trash' just because it hadn't received the analysis that Shakespeare had."
"What? Tell my parents no? You have no idea how many times I've wanted to do that. The problem is, they believe in...strict discipline."
Felix listened to Ember talk about her acting.
"Hm. I guess I never had much free time back home. Performing was one thing I certainly never did."

"oh, well that stinks." Ember sighed and looked donw at the water to focus her gazr on somethig else of ra while.

"You should've talked back or at least tried to. I mean you've got animals on you're side to help you too you know. I talked back once, to my dad, big mistake. But because i took a chance, i know for sure never to do it again."

"What kind of things did you do back home? Besides read Shakespeare?"

"Mostly, I was in training or getting a lecture on how to reveal my 'latent powers'. You see, my family are mages, so they expect me to follow through with tradition - except I can't cast magic to save my life."
Felix recalled the first few days where the training really became intense. The endless hours of training and study...but he put it to the back of his mind.

"That was sort of the same thing for me. My dad would train me for hours on end daily, but he'd let me have the weekend off. If both of your parents are mages, then how'd you gt the power to talk to animals? I thought powers were a genetic thing."
