The lake was large, its waters a dark and beautiful shade of blue. No doubt many creatures lurked within its depths - some we all knew, some we didn't.
Felix walked along the edge of the lake, staring within as if something attracting his attention.
But there wasn't anything there. Felix was simply ost in thought, wondering about the creatures that lived in the deep blue waters.
What do they have to say about the world?
Felix had spoken with many animals of the land, and a few of the sky. But the fish and other water-dwellers were beyond his reach, mainly because he wasn't very good at inhaling water.
Feeling useless, Felix sat down at the edge of the lake.
Was there anything he could do?

Usually, Ember never went near water, especially in public, but for some reason, she felt an urge to visit the lake. She plucked a leaf off of a branch of a tree and began slowly burning it, smiling at the scent of smoke.

When she neared the dark waters of the lake, she noticed a guy there as well. Ember unconciously found herself observing him as he seemed to be deeply focused on the water of the lake, as if trying to see or find something. She watched him sit himself down at the edge of the land, only inches away from the lake's water and he began to think. Ember became curious, something that's been happening to her a lot lately, and she neared the guy, slowly. She planted herself right next to him. First, she looked at the water, concentrating on the ripples and its movement. Ember then looked over at the guy next to her and said, "So, what do you think of the lake?" Inside she was hitting herslef for saying something so stupid.

"I guess it's not really the water I'm focusing on. It's more about the kind of things that must live inside it. I guess I'm just curious."
In retrospect, Felix had sounded particularly childish to the stranger, but he didn't exactly have a chance to take it back.
"What about you? What do you see?"

"Oh, that's sort of what I'm doing. I mean, the lake's water is so dark, I can't see what lies beneath. I guess I'm kind of curious as well," Ember said with a smile and a shrug.

She mentally hit herself again for forgetting her manners and introducing herself. "Oh, I forgot, I'm Ember. Ember Mars," She said extending a hand to the boy.

"Felix Goldstone."
He took Ember's hand and shook it firmly.
He sat silent, unsure of how to continue the conversation.

"Felix...Felix...Felix...I like that name," Ember said, repeating his name once more. "Felix."

What to talk about next? Ember thought, her eyes lost into oblivion until she came up with a question. A very common one in fact. "So, Felix, tell me about your power. what is it?"

Felix sighed. He didn't like talking about his power, mainly because it was useless compared to those of many others.
"I can talk to animals, and that's about it."
He looked closely at Ember.
"Just from the name, I'm guessing you have something to do with...fire?"

Ember looked curiously at Felix when he spoke. It had sounded as though he wasn't a fan of his own power. "That's really cool you know. I've always wanted to talk to animals, they're a great advantage during battle. Is that why you came here? To try and talk to the fish?"

Ember smiled. "Yeah, I'm a Pyro alright. My dumb parents decided make my name related to my power."

"About that..."
Admitting his weaknesses wasn't something Felix liked to do.
"I can't exactly talk to the fish. I'd like to, surely, but the lungs are a problem, to put it that way."
He was wondering if the library could offer an answer, but he decided he'd talk to Ember for a while instead. Maybe she could help - and at the least, it was an interesting conversation.

"Well why don't you wear a diving suit and have a microphone connected to a speaker so that the fish can hear you and approach the speaker to talk to you in return?" Ember suggested.

"So what do you like to do for fun?"
