Nala just wanted to go home. She missed her mother and her father. Her sister was far away, even if they shared the same room. Taliah just didn't mind being out here so much. She liked it. She liked being part of 'school'. Nico was an okay brother but he didn't know them and he didn't want them. Nala felt very alone, and very scared. She wasn't sleeping enough for a cheshire cat. She wasn't eating enough either cause the cafeteria had lots of things touching the food before she got there. Everything was contaminated. Everyone was contaminated. After the virus, with it's horrible effects, Nala was spooked by every sneeze, cough and sniffle. She couldn't sit at her desk without sanitising it. Every door handle was covered in so much filth it made her sick. She skipped most of her classes and her teachers got upset. Nala wouldn't talk to any of them. She wouldn't talk to the guidance councelors. She refused to attend detention under any circumstances. She hardly left her room.

She never left for this exact reason. The tiny kitten was sobbing under a stairwell, unable to move from her hiding spot and unable to call for help. She couldn't accept help. She didn't have her sanitiser. Or any of her cleaning supplies. The last teacher she'd had took them away because they distracted the class and herself. So she stayed in that filthy corner, bawling her eyes out while everyone else was in class.

The past few weeks had been... rough, to say the least. With the virus going around Leeroy hadn't been able to teach, and once it ran its course, his returning class had changed drastically. Changed both physically, and emotionally. Lucky for him, he hadn't caught it due to catching a similar sickness before. But was he really lucky?

Not really.

People still were absent from his class, and after only three showed up to his last one he decided it would just be best to cancel it altogether. So now he was free, though a bit downtrodden. He wandered the halls almost aimlessly, though kept appearances for other staff. He couldn't be weak. Kids looked up to him. He wanted everything to go back to normal, but now he was afraid it never would.

As he meandered about, the sound of faint sobbing echoed through a hallway he passed by.
"Huh?" He stopped in his tracks to listen.

Yep, that was sobbing.

He began to travel down the hallway, looking around for the source. "Hello? Who's there?" He called out in his booming-bass voice. The further he went down, the louder it became. It was coming from under the staircase. Quickly, he picked up the pace, standing behind it to faintly see a figure huddled under.

"Hey... You alright? Ain't nothin' to be scared of. Can ya come out?"

Nala blinked up at the man in front of her, curling in and away from him. He couldn't help. He wasn't from wonderland. He was covered in germs. He was strange. He was odd. He looked intimidating. Her head made up thousands of reasons why she couldn't let him help her.

He wasn't Nico.

"I-I'm fine. Go away."

That was a lie. It hurt to lie. But she didn't need help from someone who couldn't even begin to understand how cheshire cats worked. She didn't even know how they worked. She wanted to be alone so that she could stay germ free but she couldn't stay in her dorm during class hours.

"I don't need your help. I don't need anyone you're all covered in germs and viruses and everything nasty and I don't want you near me."

Nala's voice cracked as she spoke, making her distress all the more obvious.

The reaction of her admittedly took him aback. Of course, hesitant students weren’t anything he was used to. He’d been clawed at, beaten, bitten and bruised before. But helping someone was worth it even if they did not want his help.

Which, seemed to be the case.

Ever since the virus, kids really had been shaken up with the potential of a second outbreak. Did the poor child experience it? He didn’t know. Whether or not she did, it didn’t matter. He needed to alleviate this fear, so he tried to take a few approaches.

"Well, I can assure you, the bottom of that dusty ole staircase ain’t so sterile either." He said in a small voice, at least trying to appeal to logic.

Then, to emotion.

"You really don’t need ta be scared of me. I just regenerated my whole body a few minutes ago. I’m about as clean as this world’ll let me be right now." His booming southern voice hushed to a soft murmur. He extended an unusually smooth and scar-free hand, peeking through the prongs of the staircase. "I know these past few weeks have been rough. But I’m here ta help students like you. Don’t fret. Everything’s gonna be okay, ya hear?"
