"I'm always game for a game of chess." Steven replied turning to the games and digging through them to find chess set as he though about Devias explination about his home was quite steeped in magic. It made Steven curious about the amount of magic in this world. Beyond Manta Carlos and in the rest of the world. Little enough that it was mostly considered a thing of fiction, but enough that there were avide believiers as well. Finding a board cut of those thoughs, and Steven flipped it open laying it on the table.

"White or Black?" Steven asked seperating the pieces into pile of each colour, before sliding the one that Devias choose over towards the other man. Steven would then start to set up the pieces on his side of the board not really minding whatever colour he ended up with. While white was normally seen to have an advantage in having the opening move, black also had the advantage of seeing the sort of level their opponent played at first.

"It has been awhile since I've played. So hopefully I'm not too rusty." Steven said with a shrug once he had finished setting up his side of the game. "But don't feel the need to go easy on me either." He said chuckling and waiting for Devias to finish setting up his side of the game.

Chess it was then. Devias was an avid player back home. While he was working in the archives, one of the people working there would always challenge him to a game before their shift ended. Although, neither of them would be considered best at the game. Maybe above average.

Devias took the black pieces as always since he'd never be going in blind in games like this. The opponent might get an upper hand, but that was never much of an issue. With the pieces arranged, he waited for his opponent to make his move. "Likewise. I just hope none of the rules are different than the chess at home," he'd say with a light chuckle.

Steven joined Devias in his small chuckle. "Well I suppose we will find out, as soon as someone makes a move the other doesn't understand." Steven said agreeing with him. If that was the case, then it wasn't exactly going to be a fair game depending on who rules they ended up using. "If it does, I suppose one of us will have the challenge of learning new rules on the fly." Steven said smiling before looking down at the board.

Steven was a rarity when it came to playing chess. While white had defensive opening play, they were nowhere near as common as aggressive ones. The inverse applying to playing as black. However Steven played defensively to start as white, and aggressive as black. As such he knew exactly what to make. Moving his pawn on e2, to e3. A single space even though pawn could move 2 from the starting position. "Game on." He said looking up from the board and smirking. Thinking that this was going to be a fun little game to play.

1st Move.

OOC: Don't worry about copying me in making a physical image of moves you make. I'll do so for your moves as well during my post, this is just an aid to my memory. Also if we get board of playing ooc, then we can easily wrap up the game and decide a winner. Also pun must be made, but this is a play by post game, but without the postman.

Hehehe, well this will be interesting

"I suppose that's the only way to go about it without delaying the game to discuss the rules." Surely, alternate realities wouldn't stray too far away for this to be unplayable. Watching his opponent's first move had him be a bit more confident that they'd be playing the same game.

The move was setting up for a possible 4-move checkmate, really only dangerous to the unaware. A simple way to defend against it was by moving his knight to H6.

Steven wasn't to worried about Devias's first move. While it would slow his overall game down slightly. It wouldn't effect his opening play that much. Sliding the bishop his first move, had opened up from it starting position to C4. It was clear that the knight that Devias had moved, would cover his pawn from being taken by the bishop on his next move without Steven losing it. "Your move." Steven said with a nod, wondering if Devias would be confused by him continuing a play once he had already made a smart counter move to it.
