Private Critical Analysis

An additional member to Index’s expedition was certainly unexpected to say the least. Index was planning to take this journey entirely alone for his studies yet for some reason a strange, child like being had asked to join them. Index saw no proper reason they couldn’t join them on their journey so they let Sela float next to them on the trek to the mountain.

They were still a fair distance away from the base when Index decided to properly break the silence. If they were to accompany them it would be best to know why yes? Index turned to Sela, only four of their eyes actually focused on the dream being though. “So why did you desire to accompany me in my expedition to study the mountain?”

Index carefully processed the information Sela was giving them, thinking it through as best the could. “I see no fault in your logic. Very well, what did you desire to know about me? I will do my best to answer your question truthfully.” Index didn’t have anything to hide about themselves, and even if they did they hated lying in the first place.

Index’s eyes began to study the mountain now that they were finally beginning to near it. It certainly was abnormally created, Index could figure that out from a simple glance. But what Index was more interested in was what caused it to be formed in the first place.

Index gave what seemed to be soft chuckle. “Similar in the most basic sense I suppose. I am driven by my desire to collect knowledge on everything vital in existence. Unlike you I know what I want to know: Everything.”

The two eyes closest to Sela would turn to stare at them, studying their movements. “You call this island frustrating, I call it fascinating. What frustrations could you have with it?”

Index seemed confused at Sela calling their words insulting. “I had no intent on trying to insult you. I was merely stating our difference in our drives.” Index had nothing to gain out of being insulting to the strange little being so they wouldn’t have even thought of being like that.

Index contemplated Sela’s thoughts on the main academy that resided on the island. “I can see why one would hold distaste for such inaccuracies. It is immensely difficult to properly categorize everyone under the banner of child or adult. Especially when some individuals such as yourself are of an unique case and do not have any other beings to base off of. They are making claims without any backing to support it.”

“A test to determine one’s age? I assuming they didn’t even attempt to do any physical age tests. Mental maturity is important, I will not try to argue it’s unimportant. However I do think it is strange that physical age does not appear to impact their decision. You can not put an age on something that does not age. Age is a progression of the body and typically a sign of maturation and the slow degradation of the body until it can no longer continue functioning.” Index didn’t put any focus on these ‘age tests’ the island did beforehand, however Sela’s comments on them definitely made Index question how the island could possibly determine age.
