Part of it was that it was a shock, but a bigger part of it was simply the scale of it.

A world that would panic if it found out about magic. Normal humans. Being safe on the island. He tried to wrap his head around it and simply couldn't.

After a moment, he simply settled back down, taking a long moment and a nice deep breath to try and center himself.

"Am I correct in understanding that not everyone is capable of using magic? That some simply... can't?"

What a tragic life that must have been.

Irene was more than happy to give Vito plenty of time to settle down and work through things at his own pace. His vitals were still fine and the phoenix was nearly certain the man hadn't really been hurt much at all- a small miracle if he was crash landing though space.. and dimensions possibly.

"Yes, quite a few people have no magic. Most of Earth is full of people who don't believe it exists and even here many people don't have the ability to use it. But you'll also find many things that would make as much sense to you as magic does to a person who doesn't know that exists. Just take things slow and easy until you're more settled."

Then he leaned over so the paramedic driving could hear him as he advised them to detour around an area because of a blocked road ahead.

People who didn't even believe in magic. That was almost astounding to Vito, something so out there that he was struggling to wrap his head around it. It was like announcing you didn't believe in the sun: most likely a sign of serious delusion. Absolutely not something that should be taken seriously.

And yet he was expected to believe that it was simply the state of things. That people just... didn't have magic.

"I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it," Vito admitted, and then in what was no doubt an act of absolute lunacy, attempted to get up, brushing himself off. He was fine, if a tiny bit wobbly, but assuming Irene wasn't going to hold him down, he could get up just fine. "At the very least I'm lucky enough to have landed on an island where people won't think I'm crazy for bringing it up, I suppose."

Possibly that was semi-intentional. Magic did tend to draw magic, after all.

Irene wasn't about to force the man to stay still since he seemed to be more or less ok. With the patient conscious and not displaying any signs of serious injury it would have done more harm than good anyway.

"It is pretty lucky you arrived here. But then we do get fall-ins regularly. Keeps us on our toes. We'll make sure you get on your feet and then you can decided what you want to do now that you're here."

At that point they'd arrived at the hospital for Vito to get his official checks and start his paperwork.
