Name: Corinth
Age: 1705
Birthday: Fourth day of Martius (March Fourth)
Gender: male
Species: Jorogumo
Career: Tailor
Appearance Description: Corinth is a handsome man, but not overwhelmingly so. The man is never seen in any other state than perfection. His dark hair is combed back and tied into a ponytail. His only attire seems to be button up shirts and slacks, paired with dress shoes. In actuality, he’s just never seen in anything else unless it’s a tuxedo for a formal event. His tie is always perfectly knotted and positioned just right.
In demon form, Corinth has the body of a human from the waist up, which melds into an arachnid body, complete with eight legs and a chitin exoskeleton. The upper body doesn't change from his human form. His spider abdomen extends six feet behind him, the widest part of it approximately three feet across. His fangs extend past his lip, and four slanted black eyes peer out of his face on either side of his nose. While all of them face forward, one pair looks out either side of his head and the highest pair watches behind him.
Personality Description: Corinth is steady and mature, mixed with a bit of humor and patience, the kind of person you look at and think ‘he would make a good dad’. He’s never seen without a charming smile in public, however in private he can sometimes forget to rein in the need to toy with his prey. There are times that he misses the hunt, and the taste of fresh human blood on his tongue, however he is usually perfectly content to eat human meat provided from the newly deceased.
Amongst customers, he is the epitome of politeness and respect, following the rule of ‘the customer is always right’ by manipulating them into picking the right answer if they have the wrong one. At times, he can be looming and unintentionally intimidating, but typically only when he hasn’t been consuming human flesh.
Corinth isn’t much of a family man, having only kept in contact with direct family, however he has begun reaching out to others in recent times.
Powers: Corinth has the magical ability to imbue inanimate objects, usually his silk and possibly some wood, with a resistance or immunity to a particular element or substance, such as fire, water, dirt & grime, and acids, to name the few he has most experience in. He can provide a particular resistance if requested, however it may require testing before it can be released. Immunities range from complete immunity, to partial resistances or none at all. ‘Basic immunities' consist of partial resistances to all basic elements, however many other combinations can be requested for an additional cost.
I.E: Fire: cannot burn — burns after prolonged exposure — burns easily
Water: does not absorb water — absorbs small amounts without getting damp — absorbs all liquids
Dirt & Grime: self cleaning — regular cloth
Strong Acid: neutralizes — deteriorates & gradually neutralizes — deteriorates
Species Abilities:
Corinth has venom in his fangs, excreted in his saliva as well, available in both human-ish and spider forms. The venom has different effects based on how it is transmitted. Through the fangs, it is paralytic, meant for debilitating prey. When transferred through the saliva it acts as a mild aphrodisiac.
A bite to the wrist with only small amounts of venom paralyses the arm, while a large amount of venom in the wrist can paralyse the entire body. A bite to the neck will paralyse the spinal cord with small amounts of venom, while large amounts paralyse the entire torso. When ingested (from the fangs), the venom reacts similar to melatonin, making the consumer subject to excessive drowsiness.
Corinth has the ability to create silk like threads from his hands and feet in human form, however he is much more adept when using the spinnerets of his demon form. The threads can vary between sticky and non-sticky in a range of different sizes, while the texture and density can also be adjusted.
Jorogumo are long lived, but not immortal. They can be killed by illness, old age or injury. The average life span is approximately 100000 years, but most die before then due to being generally despised and killed when found.
Biography: Corinth’s life, as summarized to his niece
“The birth of Jorogumo is entirely unpleasant for the host, particularly if the birth in question is of full blood Jorogumos. Half bloods are different, you can be born like normal humans. Full bloods, are born in eggs. Hundreds of them. And usually, they’re transferred to a human female for incubation. When the eggs hatch, they eat their way out, leaving nothing behind.
My siblings and I, we were incubating in a woman who was stoned to death before we ate our way out, and were born underground. Some had already been killed in the stoning, but there was easily fifty of us left, probably more. Your mother was the first to hatch, and the others followed soon after. The body had already begun degrading so there was not enough flesh for all of us to feast. Your mother went searching above ground for food. The others turned to cannibalism. Only one of the spiders who remained lived to see daylight.
I didn’t see your mother until years after that, decades really. I was present when the calendar was expanded, read the first roman catholic bible, witnessed the fall of rome. Such a pity, it truly was a great empire.
I had started my company back then, however it was little more than a single shop. A very large shop mind. Being able to create your own silk when the price is more than worth your entire life certainly helps business on. I believe I still have a few chests of gold, should you want to take a look. I wasn’t into body armour at the time, but nobles and kings flocked to my store for the most intricately woven fabrics known to man. All records of my existence through time have been efficiently destroyed, so don’t try and do a history report on me.
I reunited with your mother before she left the continent. She tried to eat me, actually. Well, her children did. I can’t say I was impressed when she used the swaddled baby trick. Very cliché, very traditional. I may have squashed a few. Not that she cared. She was a bad mother, as you can tell. We all make bad parents.
We've kept in touch since. Vaguely. I’ve met some of her other children. You’re certainly the quietest. You sure you’re one of hers? Right, right. Back to the main topic.
I’ve been expanding my chain, since my first store. We now have locations in fifteen different hells, as well as my newest store here. Some of them are run by your half siblings. Others are run by some of my kids too. I’ve been trying to expand the various resistances I can apply. Magic, for instance. Hellfire and soul-sucking, predominantly. Those are a little trickier than earth elements. About, say, 95 years of research so far into the soul-sucking materials. Closer to 200 in the hellfire and magic. No where close to finished with either of those. Not a lot of folk are willing to help test, you know.
I suppose that sums up about all of it. If you have any other questions, you know where to find me”
