"It was." Chloe nodded, still smiling.

"Mhm. I do live with her." She had the sense that Jackal wanted her to leave now, so she moved towards the door. "She took in my daughter and I when we couldn't feel safe with my dad anymore."

Chloe wanted Jackal to know that part of the story. She wasn't a total monster. She did good things, sometimes. Admirable things.

Jackal had, in his time on the island, moved past the worst of his black and white worldview. That was still his first impression, but where he'd never had any interest in changing, now he did change quiet frequently. Most of Ralf's family were killers, but they were also non-human, and so his worldview had shifted in that particular manner.

Humans he still judged.

"Fair," Jackal said, giving credit where credit was due but also knowing that none of it would ever match up to the things Malara had done.

Once Chloe was more or less out the door, Jackal was then presented with the obvious issue: How the hell did he say goodbye? He'd already thanked her for the cookies, so Jackal managed instead with his most polite version.

"Well, nice to see you," Jackal said. Maybe not nice, but it hadn't been terrible either, so wasn't that a plus? "Guess I'll probably see you in the community center sometime."

Jackal'd wait for Chloe to say her own goodbyes, and then he'd close the door behind him and go to finish off the cookies.
