Alone, he'd always felt alone. Even after coming to the island, leaving everything behind, he still felt like an island, isolated and alone.

Euna had found out, shed figured out his past, had even mentioned Garret. It had triggered something in him, a panic attack worse than the other ones, he'd pulled in on himself. It'd been two days sense he'd seen or talked to any of his friends. Two days doing nothing, but sitting his room. He hadn't eaten and he'd barely slept.

Alone as always, always alone.

She hadn't seen him around campus, and he hadn't responded to any of her texts. Anna was worried. James always answered her texts. She'd even tried calling him, but he hadn't picked up. That was when she decided that something was really wrong. She made her way to the door of his room and knocked on the door.

"James? I know you're in there. I've been looking everywhere for you. Open up," she called through the wood. In her other hand, she held a medium-sized tupperware with comfort food; pasta salad, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and some apple slices. She worried that he hadn't been taking care of himself, so she'd brought him some lunch just in case.

"Please? I miss you," she added after a moment of silence. She sighed and her brow furrowed. She hoped her dear friend was okay. He hadn't seemed too well the past couple of times they'd hung out, and she had a deepening concern for his mental health.

His eyes went over to the door as he heard the knock, heard Anna's voice. Anna, he hadn't known her long, but she'd become like a big sister, though as someone who'd never had siblings he'd yet to come to that conclusion.

Rising from his bed he walked slowly to the door. Sighing, he brushed his fingers over the knob, uncertain whether or not he should open it. He didn't think she should have to deal with this.

Sighing as she persisted, he took the door knob and opened. James didn't look well, he looked pale, hair was a mess, in general he looked really bad.

Anna's worried eyes met his exhausted figure and her expression deepened. He looked like he hadn't any sleep or food in at least a couple of days. He'd dropped a few pounds, and he was pale, with dark circles under his eyes. "What happened to you?" she stepped forward to wrap her arms around him. "I've been so worried..." Pulling back, she entered his room and looked around. It was almost as much of a mess as he was.

"Please, let me help you. You look terrible. You need to eat something," she opened the tupperware and held it out to him. "Please," she begged, practically on her knees at this point. She needed him to be okay. If he wasn't okay, then...neither was she. Anna couldn't stand seeing her friends like this.

His body froze in surprise at the hug before he wrapped his arms around her in return. Through out it all he remained silent, not answering her question, not saying anything.

James looked down at the food, his stomach growling as the smell hit him. Sighing, he took the food and took a small bite, his gray-silver eyes looking back to her, uncertain what to say.

"I'm ok," he finally said, a poor lie, a month ago he could have easily hid his suffering, make her believe it, he couldn't do that anymore.

Anna gave him an incredulous look. "You are clearly not okay," she told him. "Have you looked at yourself lately?" She gestured to him, and then softened. "Listen. I've been worried sick about you. You haven't been answering my texts, or my calls, and that's just not like you. You're not yourself. You don't have to tell me what's going on if you don't want to, but please let me help you."

She held out her hands to him in desperation, preparing her emotions. She focused on things like clouds, a pink and blue sunrise, waves on the shore...and found calm. She let the feeling fill her up, spreading out from her chest in a warm wave. She wanted so much to comfort him, to make whatever he was feeling go away...even if it was just for a little while.

He looked at her hands, he remembered the last time she'd done this. His emotions were so confusing, they made him feel lost. So he buried them along with his past, he ignored them.

James reached out to take her hands, then stopped. His hands began to tremble, and the tremble spread to the rest of him. Tears appeared in his eyes, his hands dropped back to his sides as the tears started silently flowing.

The words started flowing from him, they'd been built up for so long, so many things. His past, how he stole for a living, the things Harder did, he told her all of it. His body trembled through it all, his eyes looking down at the floor as he cried. Even with Anna right there, he still felt alone.

As he took up her hands, she turned on the faucet from drip to full, letting the calm flow from her body and into his, wrapping around them both like a warm blanket. She watched him carefully, feeling his hands shake in hers until he suddenly dropped them. He was crying.

Anna listened carefully without speaking as words poured from his mouth. She took it all in, nodding occasionally to let him know that he had her full attention. She waited until he seemed to be done, then stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him again, keeping the calm feelings on as low of a setting as she could.

"You aren't alone, okay?" She held him at arms length for a moment and stared up at him, finding his gaze with hers. "Listen to me. So long as I'm here, I promise that you're not alone. And I'm not going anywhere. Okay?" She put her hands on his face, using her thumbs to clear his tears.

"Let's get you to bed," she offered after a moment, taking his hands in hers and leading him to his bed, laying him down with gentle hands. She sat on the edge of the bed and held his hand in hers. "I'm staying right here, okay? Just...try to relax," she let her emotions open up a bit more and pushed a gentle stream of calm into him. In an attempt to further her efforts, she drew in a breath and sang to him, a soft and slow song, one of the lullabies she used to sing to her brothers to help them sleep.

He leaned into her hands a bit as she whipped the tears away, he breath was shaky. His emotions were destabilizing, it had been a long time coming.

James didn't say much after that, he was drained, both emotionally and physically. He looked at her uncertainty, the emotions she was transferring to him were calming him down.

He looked at the bed, a bit of fear in his eyes, nightmares were common for him. It seemed like every night he had one, some terrible collection of images and sounds. Sighing quietly he sat on its edge and slowly laid down.

His eyes slowly closed and then opened again, he looked to her. He didn't have a family, whoever his parents were, they'd left him in an alley for Garret to find. Anna, Nyota, Euna, Klef, Hal, they were his family and he was grateful for them.

He started to quietly hum along with her song, sleep wouldn't come for him, but he'd rest the best he could. Hoping that through him resting, Anna would stop worrying. He had a long road ahead, the suffering and pain wasn't over yet, but he had friends, an odd collection of family to be there for him. Despite hoe he felt, he wasn't alone, and he never would be.
