・・ APPEARANCE ・・

Colette's appearance give others a first impression that she's an adventurous one that doesn't always go by the rules. Her dark chocolate brown hair sits mostly as a short, frizzy mess on her head, tamed down by a few accessories at the top before she lets them flare out by the time they reach her eyes. The girl's eyes say a lot about her: her curiosity and her cheeky disposition is given away by how expressive her bright hazel eyes are at any given time. Her cheeks are flush against her tan skin, showing how lively she is for most of her days.

Standing at a height of 5'5ft with a stance that yells 'COME AT ME BROS' with a glance, Colette's appearance make her appear in control and more mature than she actually is. Her frame isn't something to be too proud of, being a little more on the slender scale, but it always comes as a surprise to know how she can devour so much food without putting on a little baby fat. Not too different from her brothers, Colette also has a pair of wolf ears in place of human ears sitting at the crown of her head and a fluffy tail down her lower back that's slightly lighter than her own hair.

Colette's aesthetic of choice is best described as bright and popping. While her outfit theme isn't exactly all eccentric with her adorable jumperskirts and plaid blouses, there is a little detail that throws off the simplicity of her clothing: Colette's dresses often come in vibrant colors, and never does she choose colors that lean on the darker, duller scale. To her, deeper colors come off too dark and mysterious and while she enjoys her mystery stuff, she doesn't like the idea of having to carry that aesthetic the whole time.

Though she would insist her favorite color is blue, she tends to wear more reds due to the fact it's one of the colors that she can see most prominently along with a few softer colors of whites and blues. A staple part of her ensemble is always a pair of squared glasses, not particularly for her poor eyesight, but mostly for show.

Her wolf form looks much like a typical red wolf pup that's about the canine equivalent of her age, mostly of coffee-brown fur with spots of white before fading to brownish-greys towards her belly. It's almost hard to tell her apart from any other wolves of this species if it wasn't for the intelligent look in her eyes that gives away her sentience. And well, the fact she can talk, despite being a little more growly than her normal way of speaking. Despite this, she doesn't really appear any more harmful than she usually does.

・・ PERSONALITY ・・

A single glance out of this girl says a lot about how she is as a person. Colette is loud and while not necessarily obnoxious, she does know how to get under people's skin. She's a little weird and she's mostly been the oddball any class she's been in since her third grade. That isn't to say that being loud and wild is all there is to know about Nicolette Surcadre.

While Colette is evidently on the eccentric side of the scale, the girl is pretty conscious about the things around her, developing a sort of curiosity and compassion for people she meets in her everyday life. She tends to be on the awkward side of the scale, oftentimes finding it hard to establish friendships in the natural order, but she does have her heart in the right place. Still, that doesn't let people off from her cheeky side, especially her brothers.

Colette likes to think she's the life of the party, and while she can't really figure out how to make deep friendships, she's actually rather great in groups. Since she knows how to keep up with people, able to pick up on slight discomforts and any other moment to pick up some interest. She seems rather comfortable with herself in a crowd, considering it's almost so easy for her to recover from blunders she makes. Her quick wit helps her both in that aspect as well as other pursuits she has in mind.

On the academic side of things, she's... not exactly a Straight-A's kid. Most of her class results are just a little above average, nothing too surprising given her playfulness but to be quite honest, her grades in her classes don't really speak much of her intelligence. As a kid who tends to think outside the box, Colette's mind is always elsewhere — too far to focus on 'mundane' class discussions. Though if there is one class she shows more efforts with, they almost always tend to be in the sciences.

Still, she isn't one without her own flaws. Colette can be very stubborn at most times, especially when she thinks she's in the right. Colette's level of intelligence gives her that feeling that she's above others which makes her act a little more entitled to things. Along with that is this odd sense of responsibility over everything and everyone that she often thinks it's her job to fix everyone's problem. She does it in good faith but, good lord, can she be very obnoxious about it.

Similarly, her curiosity takes a toll on her judgement just as much as as her pride does, giving her this sense that she can simply break though loopholes as long as she could get away with it. Probably one of the words she lives by is "what they don't know wont hurt them," among many other quotes that can definitely lead to trouble.

・・ SPECIES ABILITIES ・・

Werewolf-Reaper

As a hybrid of two species, Colette exhibits abilities from both bloods but not necessarily into a perfect blend. She has basic abilities of both sides, none better than the other, with a few passive abilities overlapping but none of the major ones occurring in all forms.

On her werewolf side, Colette is granted enhanced agility which gives her impressive reflexes for someone of her age, often hard to counter if they don't share her reaction speed or have better reaction time than her. Although even with this enhanced agility, Colette cannot match up to those who are especially trained due to her own lack of experience.

Colette also has the ability to shift into a wolf form. While she doesn't have any magically enhanced strength or senses with this form, her speed is better than an average, reaching up to 50 mph (as fast as lions), with an endurance that lets her run at full speed for half an hour without a break. Though at the end of that half hour, she would need to take a breather or it could take its toll on her well-being.

She can't communicate with animals in either forms, but she picks up on their cues better than what an animal trainer could. Apart from having the ability to talk in her wolf form, her senses are pretty much the same as what non-magical wolves would have, namely a canine's keen sense of smell, and sharp sense of hearing.

This also makes her sensitive to loud noises and strong, distinct scents like that of perfumes. Adding to her canine traits, she's a little bit colorblind and cannot perceive some colors. Her condition is better known as deuteranomalia in humans which makes a lot of colors dull looking to her and at times makes her depend on hearing and smell in poorly lit environments.

In terms of weaknesses, she has most of what werewolves would have, mainly a severe allergy to anything actually silver. Close exposure to the metal gives her rashes, and any contact could potentially cause burns if it sticks on her skin for too long. Ingesting silver might as well kill her, but otherwise she would only need medical attention to solve the external effects.

On the other side of the coin, her Reaper power set manifests itself as the ability to see and interact with ethereal beings, sensing death (occurrence and state of undeath). She has the ability to 'smell' death up to about 100 feet away and see spirits that are present within a five-foot radius. She can interact with spirits as if they were physically there but this also gives spirits the opportunity to harm her if they want.

She also possesses the ability to cut souls off of bodies but is not allowed to perform this without prompt — which is to say, by divine law, as well as her responsibilities as a reaper, she is forbidden from outright killing a person. Instead, she must only do this to assist the soul to break off its ties to their physical body upon their deaths.

She can do this by using her own Reaper Scythe that she can summon at will, taking the form of a dagger with a decorated black hilt. This item first appeared when she witnessed her first death which was then her first (and currently, her only) experience in reaping souls. Since experimenting after her first encounter, she has learned she can manipulate the form the dagger takes. So far it has appeared as a small hand-scythe, a dagger, and more recently, a needle.

While the dagger appears physically and can be held by anyone, the blade itself cannot physically harm people and just phases through bodies when used. It can inflict minor pains on others similar to headaches and muscle pain for a short amount of time, but not anything serious or long term. In general, the only thing that the blade can touch are in the spiritual level, including the strings that attaches the soul to the body which Colette can see.

Her duty as a reaper is to guide souls where they need to be: whether it's the afterlife or otherwise. Guiding souls to the afterlife is emotionally and mentally draining for Colette, which is honestly why she doesn't like the job very much. At her current abilities, she can only handle one soul at a time, and would rather not do them in succession. She's advised not to interfere when someone cheats death so she decided she would ignore those cases if it ever came up.

Colette's hybrid power makes it that she cannot use her active Reaper-borne abilities in her wolf form, nor can see use her full werewolf capabilities when in human form. Her passive abilities (such as death sense, hearing and smell) exists in both forms, and is further enhanced in the three-headed hell hound form she shares with her brothers. Her personal weaknesses and limitations (including silver allergy, sensitivity, colorblindness, divine law/reaper law, etc.) still apply to her in all forms.

Additionally, Colette can only shapeshift into her wolf form at night and she is unable to do so from daybreak until the sun has completely set. During the full moons, she is forced to shift into a wolf up until sunrise. She is also more compelled to shift into her wolf form during gibbous phases towards and after the full moon.

Inversely, she absolutely cannot shift during the new moons, with her powers turning more in favor for her Reaper side. On the night of each phases of the moon, few of her abilities are slightly enhanced such that her relative strength increases during the night of the full moon, and her death sense, during the new moon. Given this set up, she has no idea what eclipses would do to her and that slightly worries her.

・・ POWERS ・・

Threads of Life

Discovered through a series of research, animal experiments, and a number of consultations, Colette found out she had the ability to essentially resurrect the dead by way of re-attaching souls into a body, regardless if it was the original or other. She first thought of the idea after her first reaping and found that she can see threads that connect souls to their bodies. She has never tested on human bodies or human souls and her knowledge on this ability has been entirely theoretical.

She is able to manipulate her reaper scythe into a surgical needle of the same color and about 3.5 inches in length. By using regular thread, she can attach a soul into a body, lasting only up to 15 seconds at most before it "unravels" and releases the soul from its bind. An enchanted thread can keep the soul in the body for about a day, but no more than a two full days without need to patch it up. If the soul happened to be still attached with the original strings and Colette patches them up, they are more likely to last longer than reattached ones. She can keep doing this as long as she wants, but as a Reaper, this is essentially forbidden for her and would have possible consequences.

A recent discovery for her is that using her hair creates the same effect, and it also grants her the ability to compel the reanimated to do what she wishes, though at the price of shortening its time to stay attached to the body. Once the strand of her hair passes through the eye of the needle, it turns into a ethereal blue thread, appearing almost no different from her regular threads aside from the pulse of magic emanating within it. One strand is enough to sew a soul in place.

For the entire process to work, the soul must be "sewn on" properly. Colette observes the soul to be a glowing orb which she can attach to bodies by sewing around it onto the body using a closed shape like a circle or a square to put it in place and this shape must appropriately surround the soul. When in the process of sewing the size of the soul appears differently but it's often consistent with the size of the living creature. On average, humans souls are about the size of a softball, animal souls like standard sized dogs' aren't any bigger than a golf ball.

The soul must also be sewn over where the heart is or else it would simply not work properly and the result may just as well be a mindless corpse. It would not be aggressive, but it wouldn't also be any use either as it moves without purpose or complex thinking. So say for example, if she were to use a human body, she would have to sew it over the left chest for her to have a resurrected person. When done right, they should act like the normal living beings they once were.

For very obvious reasons, sewing in a soul into the body takes some time. While Colette has earned some experience in sewing, she can be pretty clumsy given her age so she would take more than just a couple of minutes to finish anything. She isn't able use this ability when in her (solo) werewolf form, or generally any of her reaper abilities, as her active power set switches in favor of her werewolf capabilities.

The ability itself is likely to evolve as she ages and gains more experience but at the moment, she can only have one side of her power set fully active. At the moment, her max duration for sewing up a soul is up to two days, given that the soul and the body are fully compatible. Compatibility may vary from soul to soul which may depend on many things, primarily: the age and state of the corpse (being that older, rotting corpses have higher tendency to reject souls), and the willingness of the soul to remain alive, among many other factors.

Three-Headed Wolf

Colette has the shared ability to fuse with her brothers to form a giant three-headed wolf with Colette being the middle head. The fusion itself is pretty unstable. For one, they can only fuse if they're in the right mood and they need utmost concentration to even maintain the form itself. If any single one of them gets distracted or attempts to take over without proper agreement in a span of minutes, the fusion falls apart. The entire fusion is based entirely on consent and teamwork of the three to even move or else they'll just be awkwardly wobbling along with very mechanic movements.

Despite being the most powerful form the triplets could possibly possess, none of them have the best control and they have trouble doing precise movements. With their general lack of experience of this, they actually suck at it. The longest they can stay in this form at the moment is an hour at most with the best conditions, though they still have room for practice.

In this form, the triplets's strength, speed, and durability increase three-fold of a normal wolf's with their teeth and claws capable of tearing through most metals. When in this form, they also find it easy to do reaping work as they end up sharing abilities, each head with their respective powers. It's only when in this form that Colette can use both species abilities, except in this case, her resurrection magic manifests differently: since she can't really sew anything with her paws, she can link a soul to a body with her bite as if stapling it down. Although, unlike sewing, it can only last 5 minutes up to 30 at the most.

・・ BIOGRAPHY ・・

Colette could say she lived a pretty normal life.

At least as far as a reaper and werewolf family could go. She's part of a set of triplets, being the middle child in terms of minutes. Even so, it seemed like minutes could make the difference. Lucas was treated as youngest and while Eric was the rowdier one, he was treated as eldest. And her? The middle child. Well, and only girl too. In terms of family dynamics, it would have been pretty standard.

As a student, Colette wasn't the best, and while she stayed out of trouble, she was the odd one out. Not to say she was an outcast but... a lot of people thought she was weird. Going to school with random things sticking out of her hair, wearing the loudest set of colors you could find in the market for casuals, and not to mention her quirky personality, Colette was labelled an eccentric by the older kids at a very young age. Since then she decided she didn't really have a lot of people to count on but family.

Still, that never completely hurt her social life. Colette learned to adjust, keeping some thoughts to herself while ignoring others that don't agree with her and along that, it became easier to be around people.

She was about 7 when her werewolf traits started to act up, force-shifting her at night among many other full-moon related problems. With her dad being rather supportive of her growth, she managed through the ordeal without having to many problems to deal with.

Then came along the reaper side which started at around 10 years of age. She started seeing spirits around, more so than the usual ethereal residents of the island and picking up a really gross scent every so often that she couldn't understand. Her journey of learning her reaper abilities had been mostly self-discovery with some consultation with the only reaper she knew: their mother. It couldn't last too long though.

Years prior to her discovery, her brother Lucas had come close to death more than a few times. Eleven times to be exact. But their mother took it to her own hands and interfered, forcing her son's soul back into his body time and time again just so he would stay alive. Colette never questioned it despite learning eventually that it was against the rules.

She was 11 when their mother was taken away from them as punishment for her crime. Colette never saw it coming — or maybe she did, and simply chose to ignore the signs. Whichever the case, it broke her heart. She never blamed Lucas for it, despite what her brother would have thought, knowing fully well that her mother had done. She couldn't blame her either. Maybe she would have done the same?

Colette tossed the memory at the back of her mind, focusing everything on herself and her journey of self-realization or whatever she could possibly call it. She had her family to back her up, but everything she knew now with her power, she had learned on her own. She explored her abilities as much as she could without having to bother anyone for it.

But because of this, she couldn't find any other answer to the question that lingered at the back of her mind. Was it so bad to cling onto someone's life? Was it just so bad, what her mother did, that had to cost her her life? What was it that they did that made them into beings that can control life and death, yet they couldn't interfere? She never found her answer. Maybe it would take her years. Possibly decades — maybe never in this lifetime.

Her first reaping job was...honestly by accident. She was out on a stroll when she found a dying stranger. She didn't know who he was, but she knew what she had to do. The encounter brought back the thoughts from the year prior, washing back into her conscious mind as she took note of every second of the incident.

It was after this encounter that she decided to play god, for lack of a better term. She wanted to know how her mother managed to keep Lucas from dying and testing out her own theories, though exclusively on animals.

At the moment, Colette is in her eight grade together with her brothers, still being an oddball in the class. Not that she would mind at all. Her experiments for her latest ability has taken more than a few months, and she's pretty sure it needs more work.

・・ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ・・

  • Colette recently got herself a pet bird — a scarlet macaw — which was originally a wild bird that she saved from death. Literally. She found it dying but instead of cutting off his life strings, she sewed him up. She then decided to keep him and named him Oliver. He seems very fond of her.
