The day was rainy, dark, the perfect day for the gryphon. She had left her home; her yapping mother shouting at her over her earpiece, to wander into the town and explore. She had lived here for a while, but had little reason to explore.

Her mother, however, was upset she had moved from Montana - had left the farm; she was not. Vivienne hardly obeyed her mother's simple wish to call her, much less come to see her; they did not get along ever since the older gryphon had tried to marry her daughter off to a much richer man.

She had her riches, her college degrees, and was content to continue to piss her mother off; hence the earrings, the house.

She was seated in a corner of the cafe, her head bowed as she gazed at a computer screen, furrowing her brow lightly. "Hmf.." She mused, shaking her head gently. She was searching for something - a new shelf, probably.

The rain pattered drearily against the window as Evander began laying out his solitaire hand. The weekend had finally arrived, and the gryphon was content to spend the afternoon playing cards with himself in café after five tiring evenings of mercilessly grading students' papers for Melivere's healing arts class. His ears didn't miss the chime of the little bell over the entrance as someone walked in. Moving his head in a cursory glance towards the door, his beak hung agape for a moment. Was he actually seeing a fellow gryphon?

Evander watched for a moment as he... no, she... walked over to the corner seat. Were his eyes playing tricks on him, as some cruel joke in return for the sleep deprivation earlier that week? The astonished gryphon's eyes blinked a few times. No, the silver-feathered gryphon was still there, pulling out her laptop. He suddenly felt compelled to say something, to go over there and introduce himself... Oh, but how.....? he thought.

Vivienne was quite focused on her search, hardly glancing up from the laptop. She glanced up, however, to order a coffee and her gaze caught sight of another gryphon - was he playing solitaire? Her head tilted slightly at this, though she did not move to get up.

No, no, the rather chubby gryphon was happy where she was. Though the other gryphon appeared to be a little runt - like a teddy bear; although the teddy bears in her home were missing their eyes...

She popped her talon against the table, before she stood and meandered toward the male, cautious as she inquired - "Are you sure you're a gryphon, and not a toy?" Her head tilted slightly, as she settled on the other side of his table.

Evander blinked a few times as the female gryphon got up from her seat and started walking over towards him. He could feel his heart beat just a bit faster as she slid into the seat across from him. Sitting right across from him, she was definitely bigger than he was... And not just height wise, either. What to say.... what to say.... the words ran through his mind, before the lady gryphon just interrupted his train of thought completely.

"Are you sure you're a gryphon, and not a toy?"

For a few moments, the brown and black feathered gryphon was silent, his beak hanging agape in shock. Was she... really asking him... what he thought she was asking him? Between her question, and her pretty face, Evander was hard pressed for an answer...

"N-no... I-I just got a b-bad roll... of the genetic dice is all..." he stammered, blinking a few more times as he tried to comprehend the few moments.

Vivienne chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Well then." She mused, leaning to study the male gryphon across from her; "I would not exactly say that, your eyes... they're quite lovely..." She murmured, shifting slightly in her seat.

"Vivienne Lena Whitefeather at your service," she crooned, amused by the stammering feather-ball in front of her. She was quite intrigued by the eyes the male possessed; and moreso by his small stature. He really reminded her of a teddy bear... But those eyes, those would be a priceless addition to her collection..

She tilted her head slightly. "Stuttering is quite adorable, you know."

Evander closed his beak and thought for a few seconds as he thought about the female's name. He wasn't sure why, it was just a name, after all. With a deep breath, he looked down at the cards in front of him, and idly pulled one of the top of the deck; anything at this point that could keep him from having to look directly at his company. It wasn't to be rude or impolite, but he found it embarrassing to sit there and stutter every time he looked at her.

"Evander Pelagius Blackfeather, the second..." he said, seemingly ignoring her adoring comment of his stuttering as he laid down the card in his hand, "Charmed..."

Vivienne tilted her head slightly as she forced her beak closed - she shouldn't laugh. "That's... an interesting name. You come from a wealthy family?" She inquired, already getting up. If he was wealthy, she was out. No matter how cute and plushie he seemed, if he was wealthy her mother sent him.

That was all.

"Why do you stutter? Do I.. intimidate you?"

Evander raised an eyebrow at Vivienne as she began getting up. Did his name really sound that snobbish and high class? A deep sigh left his beak as he shook his head. He hated his full name sometimes.

"No, I'm just a teacher's assistant up at the academy with the unfortunate luck of having parents who loved long, unwieldy names," he said, his talons idly rapping on the table his eyes shifted between his cards and her, "But, no, it's not that you intimidate me, it's just your initial question was rather... imprudent, shall I say?"

"Huh. I see. Well, you want to have something to eat?" She inquired, settling back into her seat. Good, her mother didn't send him. "I guess I should tell you about myself - I'm unemployed." She shrugged, ruffling her feathers as she settled down.

"What do you like to do, Evander?" She tilted her head, signalling a waitress. "I would like some.. hm. Waffles." At the odd look, she ignored the woman and waited for the waitress to leave. She just wanted some waffles.

Evander gave a curious glance up at the waitress as he thought about what to order. He wasn't exactly hungry, but it would be rude to turn down an offer of food...

"I'll take a cup of coffee, please. Black as tar," he said, waving the waitress off before turning his attention back to his new acquaintance. He couldn't help but feel there was something he wasn't being told, but he shrugged his shoulders and sighed.

"Well, for starters, I obviously like cards. Kind of hard to miss that." he replied, a soft smile spreading across his beak, "I also enjoy a good board game every now and then, but perhaps my favorite thing to do when I'm not grading papers for an incompetent bitch is watching movies."
