"Two bars is good, yes?" Briar questioned, but two was more than they had! He waved goodbye to the IT guy who seemed quite dejected. "That was an enlightening detour." Briar said with a chuckle. He grabbed an armful of books from the pile to be scanned and set them beside the machine. As he began to scan each page, a process as he puzzled through the steps, Briar kept their chat going.

"What kind of abilities to you have, Vindivir? The powers of other dragons interests me quite a bit." It was fascinating to see how he differed from him, how dragons were reality here and in other existences.

"Well, I suppose I should start by saying that there are many varieties of dragon in this universe, all with different abilities. It is akin to these 'extraterrestrials' who come from the heavens that look like humans, but with minor alterations in appearance and ability." Vindivir began, pausing to ponder his next words.

"I suppose that my subspecies is to dragonkind what a homo sapien is to the other humanoids of the universe. I am what most think of when they hear the word 'dragon'. I am a large, heavily-armored quadruped with bat-like wings and the ability to breath fire. I was hatched from an egg and I sleep in a cave and hoard a precious resource- though contrary to popular belief, a dragon does not always hoard gold, though it is common.

"Unlike some of the other draconian subspecies you will find on the island, my human form is truly secondary. I remain in my draconian form more often than not, and can only transform for a maximum of three days before I must return to my den, which is large enough to accommodate me.

"Oh, and I suppose I have some minor pyrokinesis." Vindivir concluded, not giving a demonstration due to the obvious presence of thousand year old parchment.

Many varieties of dragons indeed! And Briar has heard of those extraterrestrials, people who look like human but come from distant places. It rather made things fun on the island. Anyone could be anything. "Hatched from an egg?" Briar had to pause an wonder at that. Like birds? Or reptiles? Still, he listened, intensely curious as Vindivir spoke.

Briar shook his head in wonder. "That does sound like what most people expect when they hear dragon here." In his home dimension they would look at Vindivir weird for saying such things! "My species was later given human form by the magic that created us. And we are born when two quilt dragons offer pieces of themselves to bind a new quilt together. I've been told it's quite complex magic, but for us it was always natural."

Vindivir actually paused his scanning to look at the other dragon incredulously.

"You are born... from sewing cloth."

The world was a maddening place. Why couldn't the humans have just stuck with pointy sticks and mammoth hunting? This craziness was no doubt the fault of computers, somehow.

Briar couldn't help but laugh. Vindivir looked so shocked! "Is it really so hard to imagine? My species was created from tapestries depicting dragons, it makes sense that we would propagate through similar means." The process was quite simple for quilt dragons, and did not require a male or female. Any quilt dragon could create an offspring with any other.

He soon found a rhythm scanning pages, and checking that they scanned. It made it easier to work and talk at the same time. "We're quite different, aren't we?" He chuckled.

"Very much so, Mr. Scribe." Vindivir agreed with a little sigh. He had to admit to himself that no, the idea wasn't all that strange, considering the chaotic nature of the multiverse.
