Yasmin never imagined she would be here, cleaning up a classroom with two participants in the student council election, one being the previous student council president... Oh, who was she kidding? When the school put out an assignment to clean up classrooms, Yasmin took it immediately, knowing at least one runner of the election would sign up too. It was a great way to show your service to the community, and it was Yasmin's chance to get to chat with one of them.

To lighten up the mood a bit, Yasmin played some music by one of her favorite artists on her phone. The song currently playing was set low in volume and called Ghost, by Mystery Skulls. Then, she began cleaning, starting with the grossest of tasks: scraping gum and whatever else laid hidden under the desks. Having others to converse with and the music helped keep her mind off of her disgust.

"So how's the election going for you guys?" she asked, hoping to start up some friendly conversation. "I was thinking of joining, but, ah, I don't have that sort of time. It looks so fun though."

Alma had signed up for this assignment for a number of reasons. First it looked good on her curriculum vitae, which she was always looking to pad out. Second she could take the opportunity to talk about her positions to the other students in the assignment. And third, well, it was just a nice thing to do. All equally important tasks.

She hummed along to the music that Yasmin was playing, her tail swaying playfully behind her as she worked to scrub the ink off of a desk near the back of the room. This was good music, good work, and kind of fun if she was being honest. She hadn't expected Lilliana to be here, but that was just fine by her.

She flashed a grin as Yasmin, stopping to spray more cleaner on the desk. "Oh the elections are going great, actually. So far I've been mostly canvasing campus and talking with people, so I'm glad I kinda got to take a break and actually do something useful."

She went back to scrubbing. "And you should totally join next time around. What's important to you, Yasmin?"

Liliana ran down the halls, stopping dead in her tracks, and walking slowly wherever she passed by a classroom door. Just in case a teacher saw her racing down the halls. She was late for the assignment with Yasmin and Alma. Cursing under her breath, the redhead quickly turned a corner, screeching to a halt when she saw the Home Ec teacher coming her way.

"Afternoon, Miss Forestier," Liliana chirped as she walked slowly past the white-haired woman, turning around as she passed her, watching as Miss Forestier turned the corner, and then took off, once again, down the hall like a mad woman.

Moments later, Liliana arrived at the classroom, "So sorry, I'm late..." she said, out of breath now, as she hurried into the classroom and quickly greeted Yasmin and then Alma, "I was trapped by the dead," she stated cryptically, apologetically, as she grabbed an old rag from a bag, a spray bottle with cleaner and the broom too, ready to clean, sweep, whatever was necessary.

Yasmin tried not to look too excited when Alma talk. Just the right of excitement to show she was invested, but not obsessive. She needed to look cool, or as cool as you could look as you scraped off gum from underneath a table.

"What's important to me?" About a dozen responses came to Yasmin's mind, and she knew immediately what to say. But she wanted to look thoughtful, so she gave a quiet, hmmm, before answering with, "Better treatment of inhuman species and the termination of the Veil. The island is mostly inhabited by humans and humanoids, but—"

Yasmin was quickly cut off by Liliana's appearance and the strange way she explained her lateness. That may have been for the best, knowing how eager she could get about explaining her viewpoints and starting up a debate. Now Yasmin just had a perplexed look. Was Liliana talking about zombies? Some of the slower ones could be an annoyance when you were trying to get somewhere quick, but that was such a weird way to phrase it. "Trapped... by the dead?"

Alma's ears perked up at the sound of the door opening. Oh, Lilliana was here. Much like Yasmin however, Alma was thoroughly confused by Lilliana's choice of words. She kind of shrugged a bit though and got back to work. "No worries, Lilli. These, uh... things happen I guess?"

She gestured to the rag and bottle Lilliana had grabbed. "You wanna do the windows? Yasmin and I were just talking about platforms and positions in the elections."

She turned her attention back to the serpent girl though. "Getting the Veil lowered? That's bold. I've heard good arguments on both sides, but I'll be honest that I don't know where I stand on that particular issue. But then again, a few people thought that the aura warning bracelets were a bold idea, and now they're the standard."

"I can get behind the non-humanoid thing though. Did either of you ever see those Muse advertisements a while back? About loving the real you? With the girls taking their human shape charms off. It was really cool."

Liliana grimaced a little, kind of embarrassed, at Yasmin's question, she really shouldn't have said anything. Very few actually knew what she did and it was sort of weird telling people what about it.

"I, ah, guide the dead... move them along where they need to go," she explained to Yasmin and to Alma. "And sometimes, like today, when the person doesn't want to go, I'm stuck there, trapped among the dead until I can convince them to go where they need to go," she explained as she dragged the ladder over so she could start cleaning the windows.

"So yeah, strange as it sounds, I was actually trapped among the dead and couldn't make it on time," she said as she climbed the ladder, "Sorry about that by the way, I hate being late," Liliana said as she apologized to the two girls and then climbed the ladder half-way to start on the windows.

Listening quietly to Alma and Yasmin talk as she worked, Liliana nodded, "I don't know about the whole Veil thing..." she said finally as she sprayed the window again "There have always been magical societies. Some that lasted for thousands of years even, just look at the ones in South America, Egypt, or Northern Europe..." Liliana mused as she wiped a pane clean.

"The more you hide something, the weirder it seems or more dangerous it seems when it comes to light," she added as she spotted a speckle of dirt and scratched it off with her finger.

Now Yasmin felt bad. Her assumption of what happened to Liliana was significantly more stereotypical. The type of thing she was trying to fight back against. She gave Liliana a kind, understanding smile and insisted that it was okay. "It's not like this is super important. I'm just happy you're okay."

Liliana looked fine, other than maybe a bit flustered, so there was no point in lingering on the subject. Both she and Alma looked interested in what Yasmin had to say about the Veil, and Yasmin's excitement grew when Muse was mentioned.

"Yes! I loved those advertisements so much. I actually intern for Theia. I wanted to go into modeling or fashion design for people with really inhuman bodies, but then I decided the Veil was more important."

By now, Yasmin had finished cleaning under the tables and moved onto sweeping up the floor. "I know it'll be a long process, but I really think it can happen. Remember a while back when all those creatures came through? They were from an alternate universe where supernaturals and humans lived together happily. It can happen, we just need to be able to tough out some stuff first. That's how all ch—... Ah! I didn't mean to go into this whole lecture."

"No no, you're fine. I love listening to people who are passionate. It's invigorating. That's why I love the election season so much, actually."
Alma finished with the desk near the abckcof the class and went to change out her cleaning rag.

"I think you both have points, and frankly I don't know what the best decision is. But I've lived here all my life, and frankly I couldn't imagine living anywhere else."

"Oh, ramble all you want, lecture away..." Liliana said excitedly as she jumped down from the ladder and then pushed it over to the next set of windows, "I love hearing people's ideas," she told her as she climbed back up the ladder and started cleaning a pane that had, what looked to be, insect guts on it... eww...

"Yeah, Manta Carlos is definitely my home too," Liliana confessed, "I can't imagine moving back to the UK..or any other place actually."

Yasmin should've guessed that people running for student council wouldn't mind hearing the viewpoints of an overenthusiastic student. She let herself relax with that thought and smiled. "That makes me feel a lot better.

"But anyway, I used to feel the same way. I lived here my entire life and was content. Then creatures came over and it really got me thinking about what life was like outside. It's kind of depressing kno—... thinking I won't ever leave the island unless I hide and live a lie when other people barely need to do a thing..."
