Last night had been a long night for Hannah. She had run away from home, being found in the community center battered and hungry, throwing up all kinds of red flags about the parents who were supposed to be taking care of her. Now, she was in the school's care.

Aranea had been there, and for some reason Hannah seemed to find her presence comforting, so Aranea went along with Hannah and the policemen to meet a nocturnal social worker, keeping Hannah calm, helping to smooth things over to some small degree.

When Aranea came to work the next morning, she made some inquiries. She learned more about Hannah's situation, and her heart went out to her.

She took some time out of her schedule. That morning, after Hannah got up, Aranea would meet her at the cafeteria. It was mostly empty by this time, except for one or two college students with strange schedule. She gave food services a heads up and made sure they had fresh, warm cinnamon rolls prepared for the girl. Little things like that could help.

"Hello, Hannah. How are you this morning?"

Hannah had known she was taking a significant risk when she snuck out of the house last night. Even ignoring how dangerous it had been for her to climb down from her window, she was fully aware that when her mom and dad found out they would be livid. Then again, it seemed like the days where they didn't get mad at her at least once were few and far between, so she was willing to chance it to actually eat something.

She wasn't sure what exact quality it was of the spider woman that made her feel at ease. A general warmness towards her, and attentiveness to how she was feeling, perhaps. Those were not at all things she was accustomed to, and naturally she found herself wanting more.

It had been a late night for the girl, only managing to get to sleep around one in the morning. However, the school was understanding of her situation, and she ended up sleeping in until about eleven.

Hannah had been walked to the cafeteria after she emerged from her room, someone she didn't yet know. Naturally she was quiet around them, still quite uneasy about this new situation she found herself in. However, once inside, a familiar voice, face, and several sets of legs caught her attention. The girl didn't quite smile, but her face did soften a bit, and she offered a small wave while heading over. "Ms. Aranea? I thought you would be, um...scouting."

Aranea smiled, trying not to flash her teeth too much. "I have been. But sometimes that means staying here at school and getting our homework done before we go out." The younger kids found that comment endearing, sometimes - or at least relatable.

"But I'm taking a break from that to have some brunch. I heard they had some fresh cinnamon rolls here. Doesn't that sound good?"

Aranea would usher Hannah over to collect some food. Aside from the cinnamon rolls (which were tantalizingly fresh) and some cereal (which was always available), it was mostly lunch food by now.
