Making a gift for someone you hardly knew was a bit hard. History books and something handmade. That was all Lorencia had to go by. Lorencia didn't know a lot of Earth history, which was something she thought this Samara person was after. She couldn't give the Void's history either because... she didn't want to read all those books again and she didn't want help on this gift, wanting to do it all by herself.

A globe with some points of interest? Well, Lorencia didn't know a lot about the Earth, and she'd probably just take the 7 Wonders or some pretty forest or basically things that she saw on TV, which wouldn't be so great... That was when she came up with the perfect idea. A history book based on these points of interests! Granted, she'd need to learn a lot about them, but that was something she wanted to do anyway!

A few days later and she had it, all wrapped up and ready for the exchange! This was no ordinary book either. This was special and crafted with the utmost care. How special was it? That was for Samara to find out! The problem was... who was Samara? Lorencia had not a single inkling.

Samara didn't know anything about this holiday other than what the Drakenhardts had told her about it. A season of gift giving. She didn't have much money, but she'd always been good at crafting things.

When she'd read the slip with the girl's name and learned what this Lorencia would want, Samara was at a bit of a standstill. Something magical or pseudo-magical. A trinket, she could do. And Samara's world had been one of concentrated magic. Samara herself had been of great magic, and though that had lessened since coming to this world, she was still pretty sure she could find a way to make this work.

In the end, over the next few days, Samara crafted a little-beaded box and several different "potions" of scent to go inside. All in separate vials and colorful gasses or liquids. She was not an alchemist, but this was not real alchemy. She'd made some lotions to help with pains or scents to help with headaches, and the last gift was a shiny, serpentine broach that gleamed gently when caught in any light and glowed softly in the dark. Now that one was a pinch of real magic.

She'd slipped into the park on their meeting date and time and went to the location, wondering if a giant Lamia showing up might put the girl off. The paper she'd used to wrap her gift in was not themed or Christmasy, but it worked.

Lorencia looked left and right, idly wandering around to see if anyone looked like a Samara. Or Arore... She remembered something about that name. They were serpentine? It was mentioned in the VR thing she and Devias had been to. Though it wasn't clear, she was going to see if anyone there looked like a snake. Or part snake. Hmm, could it be the snake she met when she was inside the simulation? That would have been cool! And that thought reminded her of her time as a little cat. Remembering that fact made her chuckle. Cats were cute and could do a lot of neat things like instinctively being able to land on their feet. She found this out after one too many falls off of roofs as she explored.

But enough about that, she had to keep a lookout. And just then, she spotted someone with the lower half of a snake. And she looked like she was holding something wrapped as well. Could this be her? Well there was only one way to know. She waved towards this person to catch their attention and scurried off to them. "Hello! Are you Samara Arore?" she asked with a bright cheeriness to her voice.

Samara loathed the cold, like all her sisters but one. She liked the look of it, though, or more the look of all the twinkling, beautiful lights the town put up. Those and the big tree they had set up right in the middle of the park. If she were warmer-blooded, Samara could have sat all night and stared at that tree.

She was singing a mantra to herself about not scaring the person she would be exchanging gifts with when the girl found her and gave a cheerful wave and a holler. Samara smiled and made war toward the girl. When they were within arm's length, Samara halted and shifted somewhat awkwardly on her tail, unsure how to begin a thing like this.

She had to work hard not to his, speaking slow and careful. It was the kind of tone a person used when they were having trouble concealing an accent and were obviously trying hard at sounding 'normal.'

"Yes. Hello." There was a long pause here as Sam fought to find a way to say the girl's name without hissing on the c. "Lorencia, I take it?" Maybe she should have just stuck with not using words with s or c in them. That might have worked better for her.

"A plea-- Ni--" She huffed. "You are not frightened of me?"

The young girl shook her head. "Nope, not frightened! But if you were trying, you're going to need to do better than that!" she said with a cheerful chortle.

She was a different serpenthalf than the one she saw from the VR place when everyone was disconnected. Didn't seem related either, scale color aside, but that wouldn't be unusual.

Would it?

She offered her gift to Samara with a wide grin. "I didn't know what kind of gifts people on Earth liked in general, but I hope you like it!"

The book wrapped within the gift, a history book of what this world considered the seven wonders. It had everything Lorencia could find about them. The whole book had defined sections of each wonder, and each section had papers that were stained in different light colors. There would be illustrations of them, finely detailed she might add. And the text was enchanted! As soon as someone touches the book, it would be translated to their language, or to the person's preferred language. Right now, they were written Lorencia's native language, which would look like cryptic runes.

The cover was also finely detailed to look like an ancient manuscript, complete with runestones with inlaid crystals. She planned to do more with it, but that might have made the gift too complicated.

Sam relaxed at that. Thank God people were so much harder to scare on this island. The irony that Sam could still scare many of her sisters was not lost on her, so it was heartwarming to see this young girl so peppy to see the giant Lamia.

"That'sss a relief."

When offered the gift, Samara's eyes widened, and she patted herself down to take out her own gift, neatly wrapped as it was the paper made the rectangular box look rather dull. "You are not from Earth either? It looksss asss if we are both in the sssamme boat then."

When Samara opened her own gift and nervously looked at the book (she still hadn't learned this Earth's English!), she tried to put on a smile, that swiftly turned genuine when the books letters morphed themselves into Human from her realm.

Her eyes widened and her face lit with pure excitement. She hadn't read in so long! And looking at the book, Samara wondered... "Did you make thisss yourself?"

Samara's face blushed a deep purple. "I dear, I might need to craft you ssssomething better."

Oh so she was another outsider like herself?! "You're not from around here too?!" Lorencia's face visibly lit up with excitement. What were the odds that she would meet another alien. Probably pretty high, all things considered, but that didn't degrade the moment in a single way!

"We'll have to get to know each other one day then! I just love hearing about different worlds!" she'd say as she received her gift.

Carefully, and methodically, she opened the container and looked at the contents of the box. It looked like chemicals in glass containers. Were these arcane in some aspects, she wondered. She took one out and held them to the brightest light that was close to them and gently stirred the liquid inside. Half-hoping this wasn't an unstable chemical that could explode. Although, having been a victim of careless handling of such chemicals, she could tell if they would blow up or not. She didn't even need to think. As soon as it showed signs of exploding, she would quickly contain it within a force field. But not long, she would catch some nice scents.

Putting the vial back, she looked over the other containers before she found the brooch. "Pretty!" she'd think out loud, taking it onto her palm and admiring it.

Hearing Samara's query on her involvement of the book, Lorencia nodded. "Mhm! But I hope it translates well enough to your preferred language. Its the first time I used the enchantment since I was a kid.

"Something better? You don't have to," she'd chuckle. Looking to Samara's gift to her again, she couldn't help but ask, "What are these? They look pretty and smell nice too!" Then looking at the brooch, she tried pinning it to her clothes. "This goes here, right?"

"N-No," Samara said to Lorencia's obvious excitement that Sam was not from this dimension. Not from this world, too, but that was a little more complicated.

Most people took it with a nod. Samm wasn't great at deducing the ages of humans, but she assumed this girl was younger and contributed the majority of her excitement to that fact.

She was inspecting the vials in a way that made Sam feel maybe it wasn't the right kind of gift. "It'sss just ssscentsss and sssome lotionsss to help with painsss and headachesss," she told the girl.

When Lorencia answered about the book, Samara smiled a hint and looked down at it again. "Yess. it does. Tongue is a complex written language, but the magic you usssed worksss well."

Samara nodded when Lorencia pinned the brooch to her breast. "There or you can ussse it to hold up cloaks." When she said this, Samara motioned to where her neck met her chest.

"The vialss are not real alchemy, though the color isss from sssome mild magic. Mosst of them are just organic oils and remedies to help with everyday problems. If you would like, I could teach you how to make them."

Scents and lotions for pains and headaches? Sounds like something her mother uses, and that wasn't a bad thing! If it worked for Void Walkers as well, then learning how to make them would be worth while! Lorencia would be the test case for this. Now she'd just need to think about all the arcane theories she ignored in class in hopes to get a headache. "I'll put these to good use!"

Lorencia breathed in relief to learn that the enchantment worked as intended in this world. She was worried that the magic she used wouldn't work here, given a few factors she thought were missing, but she was happy it worked out just fine.

Hearing that the brooch could be used to hold a cloak together, her eyes lit up. Perfect! She had been thinking about getting a cloak for herself, and this was the perfect motivation to get one.

Being offered to be taught how to make the scents and lotions, Lorencia smiled wide and nodded furiously. "I'd love to learn how to make these!"

She was a precious child, Samara thought. It made Sammy nervous to be around so innocent seeming. Like anything she said or did might mess up this beautiful little girl. The weight of that was on her so heavily it made it hard to keep up and continue a conversation.

Sam's tongue felt like it was constantly getting stuck to the top of her mouth, or that her head was fuzzy and unclear. She just had to breathe and keep calm. That was all. She held the book close to her chest.

"O-Oh. Good. Then, er. I do not undersssstand numbersss or anything here. Perhapss if you gave me your phone number I could ask my roommate Gwyn how to decipher it?"
