Hello everybody! The new school year has begun at Starlight Academy, which means that we are kicking off Character Creation Month. What does this mean? It means that, for the entire month of September, we encourage all members of Starlight Academy to create a brand new character to kick off the new year with!
What Kind of Contest is This?
This is a non-traditional contest! There's not really anything extra to do, but instead the focus is on creating characters. If you aren't creating any characters this month, that's fine... but if you've been sitting on a character you've been considering making for months, now is definitely the time! All participants are eligible for the fishy medal!
How Do I Enter?
There's no extra form for this one, and tracking will be handled purely by the staff. To enter, all you have to do is get a character accepted before the end of September. Any character who is both posted and accepted is eligible.
At an absolute base level, every character app is worth one entry into the raffle. However, certain character types will earn bonus tickets. These bonus tickets do not stack - you get whatever the highest value is. So if you make a character from a two-ticket species who is a teacher (which is three-tickets), you'll get three tickets for the character.
What are the tiers?
- ONE TICKET: Any characters not included here
- TWO TICKETS: Citizens, Monstrous Creatures, Robots, Undead, Fae, Angels, Eldritch, Equidae, and Any "Real Life Species" that are not Human, Canine, or Feline
- THREE TICKETS: Teachers, Aliens, Merpeople, Anthromorphs, Non-Japanese/Non-European Mythological Creatures, and Player-made Unique Species
Are there any other requirements?
In order to qualify, your character must be included in the species tag listed here. Hybrids and were-shifters are a special case: As long as at least one of the included species is on the two or three ticket level, the character counts for two.
Joke, throwaway or parody characters will not count. We are looking for solid, well rounded characters that will be used. Companions and NPCs also do not count towards tickets.
Applications should be at least 750 words long at time of first posting to qualify for tickets.
What's this about a raffle?
There is a prize at the end of this! When September ends, all the tickets will be gathered up for a great big raffle. Three lucky winners will get character art of the character whose ticket is drawn, done by Kyros! This will be a colored full body piece. You can see examples of their commission work over here. In the event that your character is difficult or impossible to draw, Kyros reserves the right to swap to a different one of your new characters.
