Private Cats and Shadows

Ah, crap, there was nothing was worse than being cornered by a cute person who knew exactly what they were. It didn't help Quincy how he actually adored cats. Shiro had him exactly where she could have him.

Still that didn't stop Quincy from trying to keep himself composed, even though he would end up in failure. She absolutely knew how to say it to embarrass him, after all. "I'm still not counting on it to work," he mumbled, almost incoherently, what with his hands pressed on his cheeks.

Shiro would ask her question again, coming closer within Quincy's space this time and making the blond straighten his back to keep some distance between their faces. There wasn't any hiding the tint on his cheeks now.

"W-well," he began, trying to find it in him not to trip on his words. "It's just that... well you-- I mean, I think you're like absolutely cute and charming, I'd be surprised if you didn't have someone to g-go on dates?"

He winced at his own speech, Wow, great job on stuttering in every sentence, Atterton.

Quincy let out another soft whimper as again he couldn't really stop Shiro from ruffling his hair. This is fine, it wasn't like his hair was any difficult to tame. When she finally stopped, he gave a little pout before he remembered to comb his hair back with his fingers.

By the time his face was visible again, his expression had shifted again to one that looked amazed. "Wha- so you do have a special someone!" he blurted out, almost amazed that he had guessed right. That sounds nice... he thought to himself.

Before another thought could form in his mind, Shiro stood next to him and gave him an offer. Quincy.... quite honestly, was bad at deciding. But... she did offer the possibility of doing all of it, so why not? A few more minutes of finding the shadow's source, food, and hopefully not getting his ass handed to him in a video game.

"Half an hour chasing a shadow before we call quits and do the other two things?"

At Shiro's reply, Quincy found himself mumbling "Ah, right you didn't say anything like that..." He'd have fallen into thought for longer if it weren't for the sudden bop he felt on his head, almost instantly realizing it had been Shiro's tail. How flexible is that??

He'd almost gotten distracted with Shiro's tail as it gently waved around, definitely much like a cat's but Shiro had asked him another question. "Well... that's the thing, shadows are faster in the dark, you can't really jump on them as shadows," he said. Simply by that, it was probably obvious Quincy wasn't just after shadows.

"And you're right about that one: the moonlight casts shadows. Moonlight also doesn't hurt shadows as much as the sun, he continued. He glanced behind Shiro, trying to find something. After a moment, Quincy turned on his heel, looking towards Shiro as if telling her to follow after him. "I think it went this way. Also uhh.. don't look too long into the dark by the way, if it starts giving you chills... it's there."

"Well... I wouldn't say stalking but I definitely saw a moving shadow," Quincy responded, a little bit unsure. He wasn't really sure that whatever he was following was something he actually knows about. The boy couldn't really know until he finds out for himself.

Quincy slowed his pace when Shiro had turned into a cat, for a moment wondering if it was disrespectful to pet her. That was until she asked him another question that reminded him they had a mission and he had given themselves a time limit.

"Mostly just looking, yeah. I'm really not super sure what I was chasing -- but if it's what I'm hoping it is, I think catching it is harder than it sounds," he explained, a bit of worry in his tone as cat Shiro hopped onto his shoulders. Somehow having her there eased his anxieties. He wasn't exactly sure what he was worried about: finding out it's not what he thought it was, or finding out something worse. "Oh and yeah, don't worry, I'm built for the shadows myself," Quincy replied, grinning to his side towards Shiro.

"Sure you're okay following random shadows with me?"

Quincy scrunched his face after being bopped on the cheek. "Probably? I haven't really met people who are exactly like me," he responded, not even hesitating. He always wanted to meet someone like him -- maybe if he could, he might be able to know more about his missing memories. Or if there are any at all. "And... I don't think finding them by scent works if that's the case. But it's worth a try, I guess."

The blond's somber thoughts were easily interrupted with Shiro bopping him on the cheek once again, getting him to smile and giggle. Cat paws are so soft, he thought. "Don't get too curious though. Mom said curiosity killed the cat."

For a moment, Quincy thought this wasn't half bad, having company to search and all. Maybe an extra pair of eyes might help him. He'd been following the same shadow for the third night in a row, he was sure, and he badly wanted to talk to them/it/whatever they were. While he kept his eyes wide for movements in the shadow, Shiro did the same.

"There!"

Once he'd seen movement from an alley, he quickly broke into a sprint, making sure the cat girl on his shoulders didn't lose her grip. He kept his eyes on it: a fast moving shape within the shadows cast from buildings, the movement visible even to Shiro. The shadow led them into a dead end, eventually climbing up a wall and forming another shape when it reached the top. No, it wasn't just a shape. It was...

"A person?" The pair would have been able to make out the individual's features due to their sight. It was a rather tall female, with long hair and green eyes that shone in the moonlight. The stranger smiled at them, but just as Shiro and Quincy saw that smile, they had gone again.
