A’laya didn’t live on campus, so as of late they had been spending most of their bus travelling time on figuring out student election related things.

“Heated pool…heated pool…the need for the heated pool is because…” A’laya mumbled to themselves as they scrawled notes down in a little notepad. Between their webbed fingers that were not really made to hold a pen, and A’laya’s shaky hyper hand, their handwriting was barely legible to pretty much everyone except A’laya themselves. Writing in a moving vehicle didn’t help much, either.

A’laya didn’t actually have class that day, but had decided to head to the school to put up some posters and hand out some fliers. They were supposed to wait for their girlfriend to help out after she got out of class, but A’laya was twitchy and impatient and decided to just start doing things themselves.

The bus soon reached the school, where A’laya hopped out. Unfortunately as they hopped out of the bus, something snapped on the strap of their bag and a bunch of their newly printed fliers fell out.

“Ah baaaaaalls!” A’laya yelped as they tried to grab at the pieces of paper as they started to blow away in the wind.

As it turned out, Havoc was actually looking for the other people running for student council. The problem was that not all of the students lived on campus, and it wasn't as if the school was going to just hand over the addresses of those running.

So Havoc had taken to settling in by the bus stop, working his way through his homework and checking each successive bus. Thankfully he knew what they all look like--almost every poster had a picture on it--although it turned out to be an unecessary issue, since Havoc was summarily smacked in the face with a piece of paper.

Havoc let out a little grunt, reaching up to grab the paper. There were plenty scattered around him, and a quick glance confirmed that they were actually fliers.

Ah, well.

Havoc hopped up, wishing he had some power that would make it easier, and proceeded to scoot around, collecting the fliers that were within reach and gathering them up.

When A'laya managed to somewhat catch up with her runaway fliers, it was a relief to find someone else trying to catch them.

"Ahh, thanks man!!" A'laya said as they scrambled to grab as many as they could, not recognizing Havoc at first in the fray. And while a couple were a lost cause, far out of their grasp, the two of them did manage to grab quite a few.

"Ah man..." A'laya said with a tired sigh as they shoved some fliers back into their bag. Then they looked up and soon realized.

"Oh! You're Havoc! Hey! Thanks for helping me!"

Of the many people Havoc had met, A'laya was perhaps the most obviously inhuman. The scales, the fins... everything very clearly established that the woman in front of him was something inhuman.

Of course he had no idea what, but he was sure anyway.

"It's nice to meet you," Havoc said, holding out the posters for her to take. "A'laya, yes?" The one whose platform he hadn't quite understood. All the other platforms had been clear enough, but he'd personally felt that A'layas was a bit.. muddled.

Perhaps he was just biased by the fact that A'laya was apparently internet famous, which put her into the same category as Emily for him. Someone who was popular, and would inevitably get attention because they were popular, but who would get minimal attention based on their platform.

"I wanted to ask about your platform, since it seems likely we'll be on the council together."

A’laya nodded as they took the fliers from Havoc and shoved them in their bag.

“Yup, that’s me! A’laya the Serpent~” A’laya flashed a big, bright smile. “Nice to finally meet you too!”

A’laya fussed for a moment with their bag, wanting to make sure it didn’t break and send their fliers flying again. They glanced up briefly and blinked when Havoc asked about their platform.

“Oh, sure sure sure. What did you want to ask about it?”

The fact that they introduced themselves as A'laya the serpent certainly did help clarify just what they were, although it didn't actually help Havoc any. What A'laya was didn't actually change anything--it was more a point of curiosity, because Havoc was so new to the island, and so unfamiliar with all the things that walked the streets.

"What would you consider to be the main point of your campaign, exactly?" Havoc had listened to the whole speech, but he still didn't actually know. There were a lot of minor points, and the fact that they were famous, and beyond that... no idea.

A’laya laughed, scratching at the back of their neck.

“I know, I kinda talk really fast and sometimes my intentions kind of end up flying in all different directions when I’m talking.”

And that was probably going to continue to happen even in this conversation.

“So, like, I really like to help people, you know? That’s why I’ve got this whole web series and massive blog n’ stuff. With those I help people with makeup and fashion n’ stuff because I’m good at that stuff and people like what I have to share. But with the student council, like, I want to help the school be the best damn school it can be and I want students love their school and I want that pride in their school to translate into loving themselves too, you know??”

A’laya took a breath, paused.

“…Mm, I did it again didn’t I? All over the place,” they laughed.

A'laya was indeed all over the place. She was scattered, and she seemed to have a general sense of I want to help people rather than one particular cause they were after.

Havoc supposed that was fine. It wasn't what he was looking for, but there was nothing in particular that was wrong with it.

"I see," Havoc said. "I'm sure you'll make a good addition to the council."

It was a safe bet they'd be on it, to say the least. They hadn't asked, but Havoc made a point of clarifying his own stances as well.

"I'll be running for president, and my campaign is focusing on ensuring that elementary students have representation, as well as providing free self defense classes to students who want them. Making sure the option is available, in other words."

@Havoc

“Ohh, thank you! Free self defense classes is smart. You should get that really butch werewolf lady to do them. I always hear good things about her!”

Suddenly, A’laya heard their phone buzzing in their bag and pulled it out.

“Woah! Sorry Havoc, looks like I gotta cut this short. Something’s up with my girlfriend.”

A’laya flashed an apologetic smile.

“Thank you for helping me grab my fliers!” they quickly added before running off toward the school.

Havoc had no idea who the really butch werewolf lady was, but that didn't stop him of making a mental note to look them up. He was going to have a hard time figuring out who should be hired to actually teach, assuming that he even did get president, but he wasn't going to overlook any candidates if he was.

"You're welcome," Havoc said quickly when A'laya excused themselves. He didn't want to cut things too short, but he also didn't want to be a nuisance either. Thankfully he'd at least covered the basics--she knew who he was, he knew who she was, and if they ended up on the council together then they'd both be in a good position.

"Enjoy your day," he added, almost entirely as an afterthought, before turning back to the bus.

He still had at least one more member of the council he hoped to catch.
