Life wasn't particularly exciting in Adelaida's job. It was quiet, and exactly why she picked it to begin with. It was just the right amount of stress to keep the voices quiet, and gave her just enough money to feel like she was accomplishing something.
Even though she really didn't need the money, and could possibly make more just by outsourcing her knowledge of magic.
"Nothing exciting out in my line of work, just as I want it. At most we get a few junkies at 3 AM thinking no one in the staff has caught on that their 'quiet' conversation's a drug deal. We know, we just don't get paid enough to risk our necks dealing with 'em."
Adelaida thought for a moment, and then stood up, dusting herself free of beach sand. "Actually, I've got an idea. I can defend myself with fire but that's usually lethal, so you mind teaching me something basic that won't get me fired?"
