A B.
A B!
Melanie could not believe that she had gotten a B on her Theories of Witchcraft test. She'd been studying witchcraft since before she knew how to speak. Yet Miss Evolue had the gall to grade her perfect test with a B, while that sniveling little piece of pig poop Pellious got an A. Pellious couldn't even tell his thumb from the leg of a toad when they were doing their lab!
"He turned his thumb into a newt for Pete's sake. A newt!" She growled under her breath as she climbed a nearby ladder to reach the higher shelf of books, stacking them on a nearby unused table as she found the ones she wanted. "I'll show Miss Evo what-for. I'll find the answers in these books, and she'll have to change my grade to the A I deserve."
The library was unusually quiet. The old spines of musty books muffled the sound of people studying, but even then she couldn't see or hear anyone else nearby. Most people tended to prefer going outside in the spring, but not her. She wasn't a fan of bright lights, and her glasses only made the issue worse.
She already had poor vision, she didn't need to light-blind herself too.
With the tenth volume of "Magical Theories: New and Old Approaches to Witchcraft and Wizardry" stacked onto her table, she slid the heavy stack of books into her arms and made her way back where she came from. The stack was so large that it blocked her vision, but she wasn't worried. She was basically in here all by herself anyway, right?
