Name: Candace (Candy) Romano
Age: 26 years old
Birthday: March 20.
Gender: Female. She. Her.
Species: Human / Cyborg
Category: Staff
Class: None
Subject/Work: Medical intern
Appearance Description:

Candy has a rounded face, with slightly wide cheeks, an elegant slender nose and full lips. Her eyes, while wide and clear hazel, seem to hold some coldness in them, reflecting her selfish demeanor, making her look older than she truly is. She’s a vain person, caring for her appearance sometimes more so than her personality, and you’ll never see her without make up outside her personal space, although her freckles do tend to peer out of it late in the day. She keeps her hair in a short and elegant bob, auburn red as it’s always been. While she smiles at those she likes, she’s usually seen with a cold sneer. Surely Candy could smile sweetly at someone at some point, although for the past year, she’s been unable to give a real smile at anyone at all.

From afar, she can be considered an attractive woman. She’s slim and can be considered tall, at 1.72 meters. She takes pride in her shape, which she considers to be her best asset, and takes care of it to a fault, watching her diet and jogging every morning (unless she’s hungover, then you couldn’t wake her up to save your life, and if you do, beware the beast).

Her style is classic and elegant, usually very feminine except when she works out. She likes skirts and dresses that hug her form, always wearing long sleeves, despite the weather or the heat, mainly trying to hide her shameful secret, along with dark gloves that match her dark clothes. She tends to wear heels, even when she works long hours, trying her best to look as collected as possible at all times. Only her nails don’t fit the part, as she keeps them short for her job. She wears glasses whenever she needs to read something, so she usually wears a pair hanging from her neck with a chain.

Underneath the make up, the diets and the clothing, Candy hides her secret. Her left arm and hand are not hers. Rather, they’re a cybernetic enhancement created by her father. It’s bright silver, cold and sturdy, and yet unappealing as it can be all the way down to her wrist, where a mixture of prosthetics and fake skin create a hand similar to her right.

Personality Description:

When you first meet Candy, you can see something’s not right. She’s polite, she smiles, she’s professional, and yet something feels off about her. Probably because her smile never quite reaches her eyes. While at work, Candy will become Candace, and be as professional as one can get, taking pride in her mind and her abilities as a medic. Out of it, it’s an entire different story.

Candy likes to have fun, she’s not loud at all, but she likes to drink, to dance, and to mess with people. She’s a selfish one, liking to mess with her students and play pranks on others for her entertainment. She’s a good liar and an excellent actress and will try her best to get the best outcome for herself in any situation, no matter how much she has to lie. When caught in it, she’ll easily fall into the victim theater, going as far as to cry in order to get off the hook. All fake of course, but that’s how she is and she’d proudly admit it, would it not ruin her reputation and her chances of repeating the action. While smart and clever, Candy is not a genius, so whatever it is she accomplished in her career has been through arduous studying, leaving her needing glasses whenever she reads something.

Candy does have a weakness and that comes in the form of anything cute. She has no quarrel in keeping quiet about her attraction for cute things, even being so bold as to flirt with the students, though she’s professional enough not to take things further. She has a small collection of cute people and animals in her phone, and being in her collection is a great honor, or at least that’s what she’ll say if you complain about having your picture taken without permission. Even though she is a shameless flirt, she never lets anyone close enough to pursue something, not that people haven’t tried. It’s just that as soon as someone shows interest in her, she shuts down completely, turning into her queen of ice mode, and coldly but surely turns anyone who glances at her away. No, Candy likes challenge. She likes cold. If she finds someone who’s bothered by her, she’ll find them charming, getting immediately interested in them and pester and tease them until they look her way. As soon as they do though, she’s back to being cold and selfish.

Candace’s cold demeanor hides someone underneath though. She’s a scared little girl full of insecurities left over by an accident, the loss of her family and the life she went through growing up. At arrival at Starlight Academy, she feels lost and scared, fearful that her condition will bring her trouble, especially in her career, like it has in the past, and scared of not finding a solution for her problem. And what a problem it is. That is her Achilles ankle, the one part of herself that she loathes. This is why she’d never let anyone approach her too closely, or let anyone touch her left arm. She’ll jump away and yell at the person in anger as soon as someone does that, and even if it would take her just a few seconds to compose herself, it’s obvious something is very wrong. But whenever that happens, Candy will always find an excuse to hide herself. Sure, she could just be herself in this place, right? This isn’t like back in Manhattan. That’s why she came here. And yet, her insecurities follow her wherever she goes.

I suppose Candy could be kind to someone at some point. She was with her father. Although at the moment that feels impossible. Her fear of her own disfigured appearance showing makes her unable to get close to anyone for her to be kind.

Species Abilities:

Candace is basically human except for her left arm. She is able to carry up to 1000 kilos with said arm and has the punch power of a running car, while the arm being light enough to carry normally. Despite this, her arm is not waterproof. It’s not like her arm can’t withstand a few drops here and there, but so much as drop a glass of water on her arm, and that thing turns off and probably needs fixing. It’s also not indestructible. Apply enough force, like said a speeding truck, and it can easily break the arm. While this doesn’t hurt her unless it hits her actual body, it does keep her from moving it until she fixes the problem.

The rest of her body is as human as any other, making her weak to diseases, bullets, and anything that can kill or hurt a human.

Powers:

Super strength – She can carry up to 1000 kilos with her arm.

Endurance – Her arm never gets tired.

Removable- She can take her arm off so she can shower, but she’ll never let anyone see her like that.

Weakness to water – Her arm is useless as soon as it gets wet enough, starting a spark that she can feel through her body, weakening. Although it does not break it, it immediately stops working.

Biography:

To tell the story of Candy, you first need to know the story of her father, Marco Romano. An Italian man by birth, Romano’s family moved to New York due to his father’s job. From what Candy knows, Marco grew always excelling in his studies. He managed to get a scholarship in every school he went to, wanting to excel at everything he did. He was soon found out as a genius and would spend his school years training exactly that. He became a doctor soon enough, finding out his ease for academics and his interest in the subject. Being a genius as he was, he soon dived into learning robotics and implants, wanting to excel at everything he could. It wasn’t long before he was building new prosthetics for his patients.

It was in his job at New York where he met Aideen, a standing nurse at the hospital he spent his days hiding in. They soon hit it off and before they knew it, they were getting married and having their first child. Candace was born on March 20 several years ago (although she’ll never tell you the year; you do not ask a lady her age) and she immediately became her father’s pride. She was to excel at everything she did, just like her father, and she pushed herself hard in order to accomplish just that, since she didn’t inherit her father’s genius.

Candy also excelled at sports, following her father’s mantra of healthy body, healthy mind. She grew up in a demanding environment, but a loving family. Too bad the dream didn’t last for long. There are things not even a genius like Marco could prevent.

When Candy was sixteen years old, her mother and herself got into a car accident. A rainy night and a random drunk pushed their car into a hill, turning the life of their family around. Candy’s mother died in the incident and the girl lost an arm, thankfully surviving the fall, but with a great loss. This is when her father became obsessed. He dropped his job at the hospital and focused his attention exclusively on his daughter. He worked obsessively on the girl’s prosthetic, mixing in his knowledge in medicine and robotics, wanting his daughter to feel as normal as possible after having lost her mother.

Growing up like this wasn’t easy for Candy, whose father still demanded excellence from her, and she felt forced to agree given how much work he put into her life. But then it wasn’t easy to grow up with metal growing out of your shoulder. Candy soon was shunned at school, especially when her father continued to improve into her arm, making it smaller, stronger, more human like. But she came to resent her arm, feeling it a secret between her father and herself, wanting to hide it from the world. She began hiding from others, shutting others out and changing her demeanor to seem as unapproachable as possible, changing schools to a place nobody would know her secret. She excelled there as well, soon taking the steps of her father, learning from him, enough so she could help out by fixing her arm as well. She became a doctor like he did, working long hours at the same hospital he once worked in.

It was after many surgeries and years that Marco managed to create an arm Candy could move as her own, strong and sturdy. But like every other robotic thing, it wasn’t without flaws. It still wouldn’t let Candy get wet without it shutting off. “Just another quirk,” he’d say, “Something else to work on.” But he didn’t have the time.

Marco soon lost his life to a heart attack. The bad life and stress his project gave him weakened his health until he couldn’t continue anymore. It was only last year when Candy came back home from the hospital and found him laying over his desk, all full of different graphics and projects for her arm.

Candy took care of everything and, after a while of feeling numb and empty, and days and weeks of rain, turning her arm to a mess of sparks and metal, unable herself to alter her form and improve her arm, she realized she could never fix herself alone. She needed help. That’s when she decided to go to Starlight Academy for help, a place her father had mentioned before. Using an internship as an excuse, she managed to move to the Manta Carlos Islands, to look for someone who could help. And hey, a place just for freaks? She’ll fit right in.

Additional Information: Is there anything else to take note of?
I didn’t mention her having any siblings in case someone at some point wants to be related to her. Same goes for anyone knowing her father at the school. (If he was here or not before, it's unknown to Candy. It depends on whether someone "knew him".)
