Adelaida seemed a little bewildered, which puzzled Naisis. It was evident Adelaida was expecting something else.

The stone glowed a little and felt warm when Adelaida took, but soon faded and cooled down, "May I have it back? Now it is, well, locked onto your dream self, I can use it to find you. When you start to dream it will let me know. If I can get to the Subliminal in time, I might join you in one."

She looked at Adelaida with a puzzled expression, "I get the feeling this is not what you expected, so what did you expect?"

Huh. That was convenient. No need for lengthy interactions or intensive note-taking on her part. All she had to do was have the stone, and dream.

"I was expecting a series of interviews or what not, but I guess I forgot where we are. Of course there'd be a magic way of doing it."

Adelaida gave back the stone, eyeing it curiously for a moment. It was some sort of beacon, or tracker, based on what Naisis had said. Probably for the best that it was done this way. At least this way she'd have time to make food.

Naisis looked at the stone and was satisfied it had s good lock on Adelaida's dream self before putting it away.

Either Adelaida did not hear or ignored Naisis's question about her soul. Regrettably, Ziadia Kyes would definitely inquire into that. So, she had better know and have a good reason why that did not matter.

But first the question, "I will try to keep the embarrassing questions to a minimum. But,there is one thing I need to know. Did you ever have a soul?"

"Used to, yeah. I was a normal human who practiced magic in the past. Damn good at it too, but I screwed up a big spell and ended up burning my soul away. If you take a look at what's inside right now, it's just like staring into an incinerator."

Adelaida shrugged. She'd actually lost more than that, but there seemed to be no reason to delve deeper and distract this person from what they needed to know.

"I've done a few tests on it in the past by having someone I knew could fiddle with souls try to fiddle with mine. They couldn't find a thing."

Naisis winced and mouthed the word 'ouch' while she listened to Adelaida's story. She had heard and experienced hundreds of horror stories, but hers must be in the top ten. In a way, she could sympathize with Adelaida. She had her own horror story, which only a very few know.

"Regrettably, there is nothing I can do about that. Although, it must have been some spell to be able to do that! Did it affect your magic?"

She looks over the place, "Is that why you live out here?"

"I lost the ability to influence magic. I can still perfectly make spells, even better than before, but I can't cast them. They're just there, waiting for someone to activate them." Adelaida's voice had a twinge of regret in it, though for the most part she was okay with the loss. It was not her family, not her soul, not her home that she mourned the most. It was her magic, gone.

Of course, she had plans to get it back, but that would take some time.

She'd come to the island on the heels of that massive loss. "First few days I couldn't control the fire, so I came out here where people are used to dealing with magic instead of risking becoming an arsonist outside. Took me a few days to stop burning, and then the next two weeks after that learning to use the fire myself. And then I just settled down here."

Naisis looked down at the book in her lap and closed it, putting it away.

"I believe I have everything I need." Adelaida would hear a touch of regret and sorrow. She had brought sorrow and, possibly, pain into another life by her actions. Normally, she would have shrugged it off as just being part of life. But with almost losing Flutterpip and almost killing a shade, she has been more sensitive about her actions.

She stood up and smiled, but the look in her eyes did not match the smile, "If I need anything more, I will contact you. Thank you very much."

She got up and headed for the door.
