Call Out at the Wharf

"The island does have a police force and as you know, bad guys come in many forms. Also, you could train to be a scout. They rescue and bring those in need to the island so that they are safe, and can live safely. There is also security needed on the space station," she explained as a waitress refilled her cup with hot coffee.

"You could always put your skills to good work here on MCI," Ivana pointed out, "You don't need to retire if you don't want to."

"Scouts are very important people to many here on the island," Ivana stated with a nod, "They have helped so many people find their ways out of bad situations. I actually thought about being one myself many years ago, but fire fighting has always been my true calling," the dragoness confessed.

"If it's worth anything, I think you would be a great scout," she said with a warm smile.

Ivana just shrugged a little at their observation and grinned. Many were surprised at her life choices, even her own mother had been, so she was used to it. "Scouting seemed exciting, what can I say?" she laughed.

"There are a few scouts that are always willing to talk to new recruits, or people who are interested,@ she explained. "I am sure they even have somebody at the school that can guide you if you were really interested."

"In the end, it was an easy choice to make," Ivana confessed. "I became a volunteer firefighter over a century and a half ago, and when given the opportunity to do it professionally, well, I couldn't pass the opportunity up."

Ivana nodded, "That might be true, but it's true for everyone too. I'd say just think about it for a while, and when you are ready, book an appointment to talk to one of the scouts at the school. Then you can ask your questions, and see if it's something you might want to pursue."

"I am a dragon," she informed Bastet with a warm laugh when the younger woman seemed quite surprised by how long she had been working as a firefighter. "I started out as a water bearer back in the 1800s," she explained.

"That's good to hear," Ivana said when Bastet told her she'd give it some thought, and flashing her a grin when she said she'd consider firefighting also.

"Just remember, firefighting is more than just heading into burning buildings and saving people. It's also about learning which substances that burn the fastest, structures of buildings, finding alternative ways to deal with a situation, CPR, training daily, drills..." she told her, her tone teasing but also serious. Firefighting was a fairly complex job, more than most people knew.
