Jasmine lay in her hospital bed, staring up at the ceiling blankly as she had since she'd woken up. The clock on the wall had said that it had been around 4:30 in the afternoon when she'd finally awoken. So she'd been unconscious for over twelve hours, by any stretch. It was nearly 5:30 now and she'd spent much of her time just trying to breathe as evenly as possible, but to no real avail since her entire chest throbbed despite the pain medicine they'd given her. The sobbing she'd done when she first woke up hadn't helped; heavy, quivering breaths pushing her lungs into bruised ribs and a hairline fracture at the bottom of her sternum. Each one had been like a knife in the chest.
The nurse who had come in had explained the barest of details to her. A doctor would be around at some point to give her the in-depth explanation. She didn't need either of them though to know that she was going to have a rough recovery ahead of her. Jasmine had never been injured this badly before, and she was kind of surprised that she was even as well off as she was. She vaguely remembered the force she'd been hit with, like a small car.
But the pain and the fog in her head from her pain meds weren't the worst thing. She knew that, eventually, someone would come. Maybe Eric, if he didn't secretly hate her. Or maybe even if he did. Either of the Angelos, possibly. She didn't have any illusions that the rest of the Enigmas would care enough to come see her. That thought brought more tears to her eyes, but she choked back the sobs out of fear of the pain they would bring. But the one that scared her the most was if Arianell came to see her. She didn't think she would. Jasmine had messed up big time, snapping at her like she had. One of her only friends... were they friends? She didn't know. Either way, she definitely hated her now too. Just like everybody else.
Stupid and selfish. They're right to hate you, she repeated to herself for the dozenth time.
