Britta Viveka Strand
"Well, I am the best photographer on this damn island, so..."

Few hundred years old | May 23rd | Female | | Pansexual Homoromantic | Changling Fae | Citizen | Photographer at Theia Modeling Inc.

APPEARANCE
Britta stands at 5’7” with thick black hair and a skin tone that frequently ranges between ‘only a touch tanned’ and ‘very tanned’ depending on how much time she spends in the sun. Her body is toned, with a large chest but slim waist and hips. Her legs are quite long, and she likes to wear heeled boots to make herself even taller. She also likes to wear short skirts or shorts that compliment her legs.

Other than the tiny shorts and skirts, Britta has a ‘business casual’ fashion sense: nice jackets, collared shirts, and pretty much always long sleeves--even in summer. In truth, this is to hide the many burn marks that trail along her arms. She is also always seen with her stylish red glasses on.

She would mostly look like an ordinary human woman if it weren’t for her bright red eyes that give away her not-so-human origins. In truth, Britta is a fae and has wings but has the ability to make them appear and disappear as she pleases. They are much like translucent butterfly wings that glisten with different colors depending on how the light catches them.

PERSONALITY
Britta is a prideful perfectionist who likes to take charge and ensure everything is done to her standards. She has high self-esteem, and has little hesitation in showing it. Those with introverted personalities often find her to be overwhelming, while those more extroverted gravitate to her—if they don’t mind that fact that she can be rather proud and self-absorbed at times.

Britta’s passion is photography, and as such she is particularly arrogant about her artistic eye and camera work. But Britta isn’t all self-obsession. One major aspect of photography that she loves is bringing out others’ inner beauty and personality via her imagery. She is a massive perfectionist when it comes to doing just that, and will pour every bit of time and energy she possibly can into ensuring that her photography lives up to her standards she feels everyone she photographs deserves.

Talking about herself and her skills is easy; it’s expressing her feelings toward others that Britta has difficulty with. Besides prideful, she can be rather brusque and ‘all business’ to those she does not know well--and even more so to humans and fellow fae, having an inherent distrust of both. Once she warms up to someone though, she becomes a bit more playful and mischievous—more like a typical fae, really!

Despite her tough exterior, Britta is a romantic at heart. She yearns for a girl (sorry boys!) to read her romantic poetry, sweep her off her feet, throw her on a bed covered in rose petals, and, well…you can guess the rest.

POWERS

Photographic mimicry
Britta has the power of shapeshifting into any sort of living being: human, supernatural, animal, etc.

However, Britta’s powers are locked inside a Polaroid camera. They can be taken from the camera and placed into another object, but Britta has found Polariod cameras to be her preferred method of usage. While the shapeshifting power did originate within her, the power has been separated from her and formed into a sphere of pure magic that can no longer be brought back into her body. Instead, she must install the sphere into some sort of object to use as a proxy in order to have access to her shapeshifting ability.

In order to shapeshift, she must take a photo of whoever she wishes to transform into and use the printed photo by ‘stealing’ the image in order to change herself. Britta’s transformations can last for about 24 hours before she returns to her usual form, or she can choose to cut the transformation short sooner. Once she returns to her regular form, she needs to take another photo if she wishes to take on the previous form once more.

The photo that Britta takes must show the subject’s face. She can sometimes take on the body of a subject whose face is hidden, but this will result in a form where the face is completely blank and super creepy—and without eyes, a mouth, or a nose she can’t even see or breathe. So, that is not preferable at all.

Without the camera, Britta’s shapeshifting power is nonexistent—with only the one exception of showing or hiding her fae wings.

SPECIES ABILITIES

Wings/Flight
Britta can fly with the use of her large fae wings. She has the ability to make them appear and disappear as she pleases, and can only fly when they are showing.
Size
Britta can change between being human-sized, or shrink down to her 6” fae height. This is only possible in her regular form—not if she is in a shapeshifted form.
Increased life span
Not immortal, but definitely still has a few thousands years to live.
Weakness to iron
She can be around iron, but cannot touch it without gloves on--otherwise it will burn her skin.

HISTORY
Britta was initially a changling--a child fae that replaced a stolen baby--who had lived with human parents in Sweden. Even as a small child, Britta had a very prideful, combative, and independent personality--which, of course, was unacceptable in the Middle Ages and meant that there must have been something wrong with Britta in the eyes of her parents. A common test to determine if a child was a fae changling or not was to see how they reacted to iron, and indeed Britta reacted poorly: she was uncomfortable around the material and when her parents forced her to touch it, the iron burned her flesh.

Once Britta's weakness was revealed, she was strapped down and burned over and over again with the iron in an attempt to 'drive away the evil within her'. All this resulted in was permanent scarring on Britta's arms and an absolute loathing within her. When her parents finally stopped and left her alone for a moment, Britta managed to escape and ran off into the woods as fast as her little 6 year old legs would carry her.

She was found in the forest, laying under a tree and sobbing, by the very far clan that had stolen the human baby and left her in return. They brought Britta back to the Court--to the place where she thought she belonged.

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for Britta to realize that she did not fit in with her own kind much better than she did among humans. The fae are known for mischief, but Britta tends to take things a few steps too far.

Eventually, Britta was punished for her behavior: her shapeshifting powers were taken from her and stored in a magical sphere, then locked away so she would no longer have access.
Britta behaved as though she had accepted her fate, but in truth she was simply waiting for the day when she could steal it back.

Once she had done so, Britta left the Court and escaped into the human realm for good. She discovered Manta Carlos, and soon found she was much more comfortable associating with creatures not of human or fae origin. After some trial and error, Britta realized that she could still use her shapeshifting powers if the magical sphere containing them were put into a functioning object. A Polaroid camera ultimately became her preferred choice of magical usage.
The islands were a natural fit for her, and she began her photography career in a place where she finally felt at home.

-Supporting Character

-Where She Lives: An apartment downtown

-Relationship Status: Has casual flings with Yura Bengall and Malara Tor. Craves a romantic relationship, but just can't resist being dominated by these two powerful women.

-Due to her perfectionist personality, Britta is known to not use her photos for shapeshifting if the photo is “too good” because she does not want the image to disappear.
