The bullets hit Clayton in the abdomen. He faltered, but didn't stop. The bullets were pushed out of his body and all internal damage was healed after a second. The Inciting Demon made sure to stay in Clayton's line of sight, but at a distance, so as to not attract the aggression of the woman.

Laurie cursed as the wounds that she made in Clayton closed up almost the second that she made them, gritting her teeth. So that theory was right. She definitely needed to hit him with something hard.

Holstering her pistol, Laurie broke and ran. Fast enough to hopefully put some distance between them, but not so fast that he'd completely lose sight of her. She wanted him to follow.

Once she had the time to make the climb, she was scrambling up a tree that she was pretty sure he could cleave through in one swing. She wanted to get up as high as possible so that when it came down, she'd have time to jump to a different one.

It was impossible for Clayton to stay right on the woman's heels since there was a tree every few feet, but whenever she was in striking range, he swung. All of his attacks were near misses. One sword strike embedded the sword in a tree, and it took a second longer than usual for Clayton to pull it out.
Clayton spotted the woman in a tree. He did his usual attack, cleaving clean through the tree, and it came down in his direction. The woman jumped to another tree, but before he could follow suit, the tree crashed into him, sending up a cloud of dirt. Almost all of his ribs snapped. He couldn't move the tree out of the way yet, but he tried.
The Inciting Demon knew what the woman was trying to do, but didn't interfere.

Well the tree idea worked. Dumb brutes were easy to bait like that. But it still didn't solve her other problems. She couldn't kill him - not with that level of regeneration. And the tree wouldn't keep him down forever. Thinking wasn't an easy task right now - Laurie's head was pounding with adrenaline and her ribs were sore from where she smacked into the branch of the other tree she'd leapt to.

Getting her bearings on her new perch, Laurie drew her pistol once again and scanned the tree line. That other demon was still around - and this guy had been trying to get away from something. She was starting to put two and two together. The demon had some influence over this guy, maybe? The demon had consistently tried to stay just in line of sight.

So her goal right now was to find it and - if not kill the asshole outright, at least maybe make him go away.

The Inciting Demon hid behind a tree out of Clayton's sight. He couldn't focus on getting the tree off of him if he was scrambling to get to the demon.
Once Clayton lifted the tree off of him, his ribs were sufficiently healed. He stood just when the Inciting Demon stepped out from behind the tree and immediately started chasing it. The Inciting Demon once again ran around in a wide arc to try and get the woman between it and Clayton.

Laurie caught flashes of the demon in another tree, but didn't waste her ammo. She couldn't hit it with so much cover around. But she could see what it was doing, and two could play at that game.

Leaping to the next tree, a branch several feet lower, Laurie started moving to intercept. The demon wanted to keep the crazy sword guy focused on her rather than it. So she'd just have to make that as difficult as possible. She leapt from tree to tree, barely making a few jumps and bruising her ribs in the process to getting to the ground.

But once she was there she bolted. Keeping her eyes on the movement above of the demon running away. Following it's path to keep it in view as much as possible and hoping that Clayton could see it too when he inevitably followed.

While the Inciting Demon was running, it came to an instant stop behind a tree. He made sure to stop behind a tree that was surrounded by a lot of foliage. It lowered itself to the ground and peered in the direction of Clayton through a bush. The man was still coming in the demon's direction, albeit with less conviction than before.
The Inciting Demon reasoned that Clayton could not see the woman. If he did, he would've gone after her after the demon left his sight.
Instead of repositioning itself like it did before, the Inciting Demon revealed itself and allowed Clayton to approach. Once he was close enough, the demon did its usual dodging, then made a beeline in the direction of the woman, who was now running on the ground. It made sure not to run as fast as it could've so that Clayton could stay on its heels.

Laurie did the thing that her training told her not to as she heard Clayton crashing ever closer to her. She turned and looked at the thing chasing her. Or things, rather. The demon was hot on her heels too, and looked like it was trying to lead Clayton directly to her.

Idiot.

Laurie ducked hard to the left, disappearing behind a tree so that the demon couldn't see her. All she needed was a split second and she was doubling back around them. Crouched in the underbrush to keep her out of their field of view. She figured that the demon wouldn't stop - not wioth that crazy asshole chasing it.

But she could wait for it to slow down to try and get a bead on where she'd gone. And in that time, she'd shoot it in the fucking head. Or try, at the very least.

The Inciting Demon was closing in on the woman. As it was turning its head to make sure that Clayton was close enough, she suddenly left its vision. It whipped its head back around, but she was gone from sight. The Inciting Demon slowed down and started its usual dodging routine while it looked for the woman.
As soon as the Inciting Demon saw something moving in the brush, it jerked its head to the side. A bullet blew a considerable hole in the left side of its head. It stumbled a few feet away and lowered itself to its knees. It tried to desperately move away after realizing its mistake, but Clayton already had enough time to cut the demon's right arm off.
A static hiss flared from the Inciting Demon's head and arm stump. You could somehow hear the anger coming from the sound. It briskly walked past Clayton, nonchalantly dodging his strikes, and moved towards the woman. It wouldn't attack, but if it could keep her in its sights, it would be able to dodge her shots easily, with no chance of being caught off guard. It could hear Clayton swinging behind, so it dodged just in time, but it made sure that all three of them were close together.

She blew a hole in the damn thing's head and it kept going. Of course it did. Cursing, Laurie could see it coming her direction and knew that it was going to either attack her outright or lure Clayton over to kill her himself.

"Come and get me, fuck face."

And Laurie charged at the demon. It could dodge at thirty paces, but how about closer? How about point blank? As long as she could time it right, she could at least get out of the immediate way of Clayton's swing when he came crashing through. He wasn't subtle and she could hear him lumbering ever closer.

So she took her shot when she was close enough and prayed.
