Valli smiled despite himself, because where do I get a job sure was a question, wasn't it?
"It depends on the kind of job you want. For some stores, or places to eat like this one, you'd write up a resume--a list of your skills--and give it to the manager, and then they'd look it over and call you for an interview. Or you'd apply online."
Which Gask probably wouldn't know about at all. He'd mostly stayed to classics--had he read anything more modern that had talked about 'online'?
"But you don't need to," Valli said. "Part of going to school here means having your things paid for, within reason. You'll have enough money for food, and clothing, and all your basic needs will be handled. And I have money as well. I've been sitting on a lot of it, barely spending, and getting a job should be low on your priority list. Education first, jobs second."
There was so much, and the more he thought about it, the bigger it seemed to get. He couldn't possibly explain it all, could he?
"The school will have classes on things like this. Things like... how society operates here, and things like how to get a job. They'll walk you through things, and catch you up to speed. They deal with a lot of people who have even less understanding of modern human society then you do."
Like aliens, for one.
