Sid placed his hand on his forehead, putting his sensitive eyes into shadow to alleviate some of the stress on them. All around the courtyard he could see lovey couples holding hands and celebrating the coming spring and the beginning of warmer weather. They praised being able to be out in the sun for the first time since the chilly midwinter. In a way, Mz'sid could understand what they were said. The comfortable greenness of everything, the fact that plants were actually blooming, and the fact that he could see other living creatures outside that didn't huddle in parkas and making igloos with their bodies was satisfying.

It didn't make up for the fact that the sky was so damnably clear that he couldn't fucking see anything, but he could understand the appeal.

Plus, since it was spring that meant that the flowers in bloom could be used for his potions. He had quite a few that he wanted to try, and some on back order than he still needed to. Ahem. "Accidentally mislabel" and put back into the chemistry cabinet. But even he enjoyed the burning warmth of the sun every now and again.

A little. Sometimes.

The drow squinted. The sun was too fucking bright--he was almost literally blind. Who the fuck. What is even the point of the sun. Why would anyone make a sun?

As he was contemplating the uses of a sun, blind as he was, before he realized what had happened he was face down on the ground. The subtle pain in his knee told him he'd tripped over something.

"Okay, what th' fuck." He asked the blinding white that was more or less all he could see. "What did I just trip over n' who was th' asshole who left it there."

It was a small imp-like creature that tripped him. It was giggling as if it did it on purpose. It grinned evilly and ran off laughing at this little prank he pulled. It ran along the concrete walkway weaving in and out of all the people. The voices of people questioning what that thing was became louder and louder as the creature made its way through more people.

Oliver: "where could he have gone?" I thought. I frantically searched for the creature when I bumped into another student who was recovering from a fall and appeared to be pretty angry. "I hope that little squeak didn't cause this" I thought. I didn't want someone angry with me this early on.
